You could write your work out in a midi program. I was stuck with the demo version myself way back in the day, and that's what I did. God, sittin' around for 4 hours straight just to finish something. It was fun because I was learning, but...I wouldn't go back to it. xD But yeah, midi software is FTW. :3

Mega Man 2 - Wily 1 -- For You - Vox Mix
Dash Myoku replied to AkumajoBelmont's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/117753 Had this around here for awhile. But, it's about the only track I have with live-guitar. Not to mention that this was before I got my AWESOME amp. -
Mega Man 2 - Wily 1 -- For You - Vox Mix
Dash Myoku replied to AkumajoBelmont's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Well, as I've mentioned before with your Sonic remix, I'd be glad to help. I just need to get my guitar gear from a friends house first. If someone else hasn't already decided to help you, I'll let you know when I get my stuff and am ready to rock. As for the actual track...impressive. God, I wish I could do this stuff. You, sir, make me jealous...as usual. xD -
Well, I've been on a bad streak with music for...some time now. I got tired of not writing anything, so I asked a friend to paint me a picture to model a track after. He gave me a scene of a snow-topped mountain serenely looking over the clouds, with friendly blues seas shining underneath. At first, I didn't think I'd be able to produce anything to that caliber, but I've gone and surprised myself. Now, the track isn't finished, but I'd like to hear some opinions on it. What I want most is to know if you, the listener, at least get somewhat of that picture in your minds eye when you listen to the track. Happy listening! -------------- Update #1 Yes...updates, they're awesome. Even though I just posted this thread a few hours ago. >.> Anyways, I feel that I should add that most everything I write is meant to fit in a video game. So, keep that in mind as you listen to this update. One thing I'm unsure of with this update is the last "string only" section. So I'm wondering if I should continue with building/progressing the second section (you'll hear it for sure), or if I should keep the last section and keep going in that direction. I realize that my orchestration skills aren't amazingly awesome or anything, so be nice. >.> xD

I played the demo a while ago. Extremely impressive, imo. As for this current dispute over 1-3 and 4. All of them were pretty awesome games. Sure, the first 3 were a little lacking in action, but that doesn't mean they're any less awesome. I'm sorry, but I grew up playing the games and while 4 was good, I can honestly say I didn't enjoy it as much as I did the others. Las Plagas? C'mon. That's BS and everyone knows it. Bring back the Zeds damn it! lol

I'm goin' with D. As some one else said, the only way to know if a game is good or not is to sit down and play it. If it doesn't catch my interest, it doesn't get played. Simple as that. :3

Yeah, the source is basically just that, a background track. It's used for a boss fight 'n such. As for the melody, can't say I know what you mean. The main lead in the source is already out in front, so to speak. Only thing I can see to do is add on to the lead with original leads. And you're right, it does seem a little repetitive. I'll have to work on that a wee bit. At any rate, I decided to take out the "Main Gate" portion for right now. Depending on how the rest of the track pans out, it may or may not come back. I went ahead and laid down some original sections after Bruno's theme. I'm a little ify about what I think, but so far it doesn't sound too terrible. ^^;
-
Well, I'm fairly impressed. You say this is a rough mix? I think it sounds fine. I kinda like the 8-bit sound to it along with the piano. I dunno why, but it just fits. And I'm not gonna name the other tracks in this. That takes too much effort for me to have to go through and pick out every one. Anyways, awesome track, my friend.

Triple post ftw! Anyways, there's an update added to the first post.
-
No critics? No comments? No nothing? C'mon, that's lame.

lol Will do. I don't think I'm really even suppose to talk about the game, but oh well. I abuse my privileges as the composer. xP

Source: http://legends-station.com/?page=mml1/music - Scroll down to track number 56 (Theodore Bruno). Alright, I've remixed this track once before. Though, it was a few years back and I love that remix so much, I wanted to get a new spin on it. Well, I did just that. I'm not very awesome at Trance or anything, but it's something I definitely wanna get better at. And there lies my biggest challenge with this remix. Taking the original and transforming it into the trance genre. So have a listen and let me know what I can do to make this remix better. This site needs a MML remix and I'd like to be the first to make it happen. --------------------------------------------------------- Update #1 - 12/25/08 Yeah, it's an update. Bet ya didn't see that coming. Anyways, as I continued writing the track, I begin to realize that was settin' up for another MML track to enter. So, once I did realize that, I went ahead and added it. The extra track that's now included is the "Main Gate" theme. You can use the source link above to find the...uh, source track. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Update #2 - 12/25/08 Lets see...I basically took out the extra MML theme I had in the first update and added original sections. I figured that everything was "in-your-face" already, so I wanted to make it die down and build back up. Aaaand that's pretty much it. Lemme know what ya think. :3

Well, I'm not entirely too sure of what's in the ruin. All I really remember is that it's a water ruin. xD And the game takes place in the Mega Man Legends universe. It's like, back in the days of when the Master was still alive and they're just starting to build the first prototypes that will eventually lead to Mega Man Trigger's creation. Whether that happens in the game or not, I'm not sure. It's basically a fan-game, but with an original story-line. Oh, did I mention that it's gonna be a 3D game? lol Supposedly, my friend and his team are gonna be able to match the likes of the 360 engine with physics, textures 'n all that good stuff.
-
Yeah, it's me! God knows I haven't been here in awhile. >.> Anyways, I've come back with a game track I'm working on for a friend. As the title suggests, it's for a water ruin. I just wanna see what yous guys think of it. Hope you enjoy!

Yeah, the samples definitely need some upgrading. As for what you can use, I'd go with "The 64mb Sound Site Album Bank v1.0." Only issue with that is that the trumpet samples aren't too great. But, I'm also assuming that you're able to us soundfonts. If you can and don't feel like looking it up, let me know and I'll upload it somewhere for you to download. Another thing about your arrangement is lack of drums. Now, I realize this is an orchestrated piece, but adding in a drum-set of some sort would help it. Crossing genre's can actually help a piece...I think. I do it all the time. lol Personally, I'd like to hear this mixed with some metal (for the drums) and some electronica, especially with Saturos's theme. Saturos = Badass, so a Badass character needs some Badass music. But you seem to have a good idea of what you want. Just get some drum-set in there to get it that "drive."

8-Bit Metal - feedback on 1st album content
Dash Myoku replied to 8-Bit Metal's topic in Post Your Original Music!
Thirteenth Zodiac, Bloodlines and Behind the Mask. Those are the ones I tired to listen to. I must say, they're really good...up til the singing comes in. I wasn't expecting it with Thirteenth Zodiac and when it happened, I was like "BAAAAH WTF IS THIIIS!!!" Ok, maybe I didn't say it like that, but still...it threw me off. I dunno, maybe it's just me, but 8-bit compositions + Singing don't sit well with me. But, if you're familiar with any sort of "Vocoder" plugin, you could mix your voice with the 8-bit so it fits better. Well, I'm not sure that it'd fit better, but that's what I'd try out before settling on my own voice to work with the 8-bit aspect of the tracks. Again, really awesome compositions, I'm just ify on that singing. -
8-bit: Awesome, I love writing 8-bit tunes. They're fun and I can usually make 'em decent, if not awesome. As for your little description about the track, I like it. I never thought of it that way, but I will now. And yeah, it'll have a looping point, I just wanted to add another section or two before I make it loop back. With the one or two new sections, it'll probably end up being around 2:30, but that's just an estimate. Overcoat: I got that impression too, actually. You could say I took some influence from Team Rockets Hideout theme, cause that was an awesome tune. As for the reverb, I can take that out. And by real-ish, I mean that it'll have real-ish instruments, as opposed to being just 8-bit. I'm not sure how to make .nsf files. If you know how, perhaps you can talk me through and I'll make one. I'll go ahead and take the reverb out and post that...and I might as well post the other version of it, even though it's not much different.

Hm, I may participate in this. I've been playing that game since I was like...9 or 10. Hell, I still have the original game in my possession. It's...gonna be hard choosing a track to remix, though. >.>
-
I know...and I'm telling you my thoughts on how to improve. :3
-
It's...mediocre. Nothing really too special about it. Drums aren't that great, Piano's kinda soft and rigid (meaning give it some life by messing with the velocity of each note) and the strings are just kind of...there. It's very empty. Add a simple bassline and give the strings some octave action. The piano is also just kinda hangin' out by itself, so add another instrument to help back up it's melodies...hell, let the new instrument do some of it's own stuff and let the Piano back it up.
-
Not bad, actually. Though, I was kinda disappointed by the lack of variety and the fact that most of it is the same with a key change thrown in and back. Work on your progression and add more sections, with those two...I'm sure you'll have something very awesome.
-
As a loop, but I wanted to add a couple more sections before looping it back around. Though what I'd really like to do is make a looped version and a song version. So who knows, maybe I'll actually do that.
-
What ya mean...like, work this into a remix? Or put the same effort into a remix? xD
-
o.o Oh, I didn't realize...I'm so behind the OCR times. So thanks Audix...even though it's late. ^^; And thanks Therapsid, I didn't really have a set theme in mind when I made this, I just kinda went with the flow. I wish I could think of something else to help progress the track, though. I also have a real-ish version of it, but apparently, I didn't bother posting it. lol

Zelda: OoT - Lost Woods (Happy Ganon Mix 2)
Dash Myoku replied to Dash Myoku's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Well, the source at the beginning comes in when everything picks up. It sure as hell doesn't sound like it, but the Clarinet/Bassoon are the chords of the original...just slightly modified to add a certain creepy-happiness to it. And yeah, I wasn't really to...fond of the Dawn theme being in there, but a friend of mine insisted that I add it for "effect." I'll probably end up taking it out. Also...by rigid, do you mean too square or something? If so, I can definitely work out the kinks in that. Twas the last part I actually worked on before stopping for the day, so not a whole lot of work went into it. And the drums, the hi-hats were too harsh or loud? If that's the case, I'll change them. Also, have you ever heard of Ayreon? They have a concept album in which there's narrative speech...not really narrative, more like the "I'm the one telling you how it is," sort of thing. Well, I have something similar in mind, but not quite like that. It's more like the the storyteller telling the story as the music progresses. Instead of like "Link/He/She" is doing this, is more so directed toward the listener. I just wonder if this seems like an interesting idea to implement. Thanks for your time man. -Edit- In fact, I added the version with the previously mentioned idea.
