CONTACT INFO: Remixer names: HoboKa and Mike Z (voice acting) Alexander Shtokalko e-mail: the_great_guy_sorta@hotmail.com no website Can't find my user ID REMIX INFO: BreathofFire II Final Battle, remix name: "JadedByDeath" Original song (MIDI format) Comments: I was inspired to make this song, because none of the remixers had the time to do it themselves...lol. So I decided that I would give it a try myself..heck it's only been a bit less than a month since I have been messing around with FruityLoops, so I hope that it turned out well... Any hoo, I thought that a symphonic opening/buildup that turns into a trance/techno song would be a cool idea for the mix. And Mike Z did the creepy voice for me; he is by far one of the best voice actors I've come across insofar. Thanks Mike - I hope you guys enjoy my first real remix attempt! ----------------------------------------------- http://snesmusic.org/v2/download.php?spcNow=bof2 - "Evan ~ God of Death" (bof2-46.spc) We all gotta start somewhere, but why is this only 112kbps, for a 3:37-long mix? Why is this hosted on Megaupload? In any case, I believe I saw you say, Alex, that you wanted to learn how to make music so you could fulfill your own requests. Nice work. The delay effect on "all" at the end of Mike's voice acting was very cheesily done. Make the delay effect faster so that the voice rolls into the delays trailing off of it. Campy stuff, but ultra-solid voice work from MikeZ. The guy sounds like he could rip your balls off. Cool ambiance for the intro. The strings at 1:07 sounded a bit distant and the sample quality was a little fakey, but they worked well in tandem with the solitary sounding piano notes. Good textures there. Why it segued into some bleh electronic stuff, I can't be sure. There's nothing wrong with the premise, but it's just not put together well. REALLY cheap sounding beats and sampling at 1:54. Reminiscent of Parasite Eve to tell you the truth, just not as well produced. If the beats weren't so loud over the rest of the music, it would have been much better, as you could hardly hear the melodic material on the strings arranging the source. Why were you burying the actual arrangement component of the track like that? Get the sound balance working more in your favor for that section. Regardless of that, your textures were overly simplistic and need more depth. At 2:34, the lead synth and processing on it felt ultra-bland. MikeZ at 3:24 was way too quiet, then the effects on the Mu-hahas were way too cornball. The track cut off abruptly at 3:37. Honestly, if you filled in the gaps for this piece and honed the production on this, it could be good, but right now you're not at that level. The jumpy structure will turn some judges off, but the variation and arrangement ideas were in the right place. Over time, you'll learn how to add more finesse to this rough execution. You show promise though, Alex. Keep at it. NO

Your question is way too general and has no specific answer, plus it's in the wrong forum. http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=12 http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=6716

Hello there, My nick is Woody, I'm from Germany and I'd like to submit an OCR arrangement to the OCR archive. As your guidelines recommended, I'm currently hosting the song on my personal website - here's the link: Contact info ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -Remixer name: Woody/mC (or simply "Woody", if "/" is an illegal char) -Mail address: woody@media-Culture.de -Website: http://woodymc.ath.cx/ Remix info: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -Game name: Illusion of Gaia (SNES) -OCR Game URL: http://www.ocremix.org/game/illusionofgaia/ -Song name: Edward's Coronation Original soundtrack info: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -SPC soundtrack archive: http://www.zophar.net/zsnes/spc/ig.rar -Original SPC song name: IG - King Edward's Castle.spc -OCR chiptunes archive: http://www.ocremix.org/songs/original/Illusion%20of%20Gaia.rsn This is my very first submission, so I hope that the MP3 file is properly tagged. Please let me know if there's anything missing. Thanks in advance. -- Greetz, Woody/mC --------------------------------------------------------------- http://snesmusic.org/v2/download.php?spcNow=iog - "Castle" (iog-05.spc) Cool concept; I love organ music. Aside from some moments of light flooding, this was decently pulled off. Doesn't pass for a real organ of course, but for what it is, it sounds relatively good. Right now though, the arrangement is vastly underdeveloped. Only 2:13-long, it doesn't say much in the little time given. Not that it has to, but it also doesn't sound very melodic, on account of the tempo. Once you familiarize yourself with the theme, you hear how there are at least some new ideas with respect to the writing. Beyond adapting it to the instrument though, there's still little interpretation given to the theme in the big picture. Expand the composition with more ideas. Interesting first sub though. NO (resubmit)

OCR01585 - Super Mario Bros. 2 "Lizardiño Slayer Quartet"
Liontamer replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
That's because ilp0 had an older version of the track on VGMix2. In my vote, I referenced playing it on a past radio show that has that information. -

OverClocked ReMix Design ?'s and Issues
Liontamer replied to Liontamer's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
Also, I just discovered yesterday that the RSS feed as used in Gmail only cycles through 4 mixes including Lizardino (which works fine there). Dunno if that's just on my end, or if it really doesn't cycle through all of the recent 10. -
Since the thread's over... P.S. Binster has a great remix of that track sampling the some of the original audio.

*NO* Chrono Trigger 'Forest of the Damned' *FT* *RESUB*
Liontamer replied to big giant circles's topic in Judges Decisions
Well, when you resub something that got a form rejection letter, there's basically nowhere to go but up. Yeah, you forgot to link or attach the actual sub when you sent it last. I've since gotten nice enough to actually let people know when they make that flub. I'm not so bad. http://snesmusic.org/v2/download.php?spcNow=ct - "Secret of the Forest" (ct-1-11.spc) Opens up with the familiar intro of the original, with a lot of new instrumental and ambiance ideas. The arrangement relies on personalization via the new instrument choices, because a lot of the part writing is copied verbatim or near-verbatim from the original. [looks at zircon's vote] I love it when I agree without having looked at what someone said first. Yeah, the production choices are pretty awkward sounding. The overall volume is way too low, and all of the sounds seem distant. Yeah, the chords of the strings from :34-:45 are all wrong. Bowed strings from 1:25-1:30 definitely played the wrong chord as well. This is at least going in the right direction in terms of personalization, but further interpretation would only help this. Modify the writing/patterns of the supporting parts that stick so closely to the original so that you have more interpretation on that level in lieu of messing around with the melody. Definitely agreed with zircon & JonT's criticisms on all levels. Like JiggyJ alluded to, you definitely show good potential Brian, so keep learning what you can to improve your craft. Then you'll be one of the few and the proud in a year or two to listen to your old work and go "Damn, my stuff is way better now." On the arrangement side, keep going for more interpretation, first and foremost. NO -
OCR01584 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV "Turd Surfers"
Liontamer replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Talking to Compyfox a week ago about the material that OCR accepts, he was still convinced that the judges panel is looking for Hollywood-level production, so I sent him this mix. It won't convince him of anything, but I try. -

I played this game for half a year when I was about.. 11-12 and I never forgot the great music and atmosphere. I looked for the soundtrack for almost 3 years without success and then finally found it. Now I wanted to pay my respect to Kimitaka Matsumae's perfect soundtrack. I was trying to capture the feeling from the original game with the percussion and ethnic elements and then went overboard with loads of synths and som phat drums. Since I love to fit different styles into my remixes I went even more overboard by finishing off with a more slick general rock (no guitars though) version of the theme. Everything was, as always, done in Reason 3. I am really proud of this one and I hope everyone else will enjoy it too. Kind Regards, Mattias Häggström Gerdt (Another Soundscape) ---------------------------------------------------------------- Jade Cocoon Original Soundtrack - (03) "Syrus Village" Very nice source tune choice. I'm gonna have to check out the rest of that soundtrack. I was disappointed that there were no PSFs out. Nice intro; good choice of instruments for a pleasing texture. Melody came in at :33. Good expansion of the bassline writing compared to the original. Joined in by a countermelodic synth at :56 that was a bit overbearing for my tastes, but was used well. Drums brought in at 1:29 were a weak point; the tone lacked a lot of punch and sounded generic, plus the pattern sounded plain overall. There's something about the production that makes this sound lossy and distant like a much lower encoding, especially during fuller sections using the drums like 1:41-2:26, but I can't put my finger on it. Good change in the dynamics at 2:26, even despite using the similar textures as in the beginning of the track. Same lossiness issues when the drums returned at 3:11. The woodwind lead and drums during this section don't fill up the space enough, IMO, making this section feel emptier than I think was the intent. It's a good contrast to the beefier 1:46-2:26 section, but I can't help but feel this could use one more part or some rebalancing of the sounds to flesh things out further. I'd really prefer this was tweaked on the production side before it went up, but even in light of the flaws there, this is still a safe enough pass. The arrangement is really cool stuff, and Mattias continues to be one to watch as he only continues to refine his sounds and improve his craft. YES

Sonic Adventure 1&2 & Sonic Gems Collection on PS2 Petition
Liontamer replied to SpiDoL's topic in General Discussion
Y'all shaddapz. -
Derek, if you have a new copy of the mix at/under the 6MB/192kbps limits that deals with the volume, attach me a copy in an email. Since it hasn't been long since it was posted, we can replace the existing version with a new one provided that the arrangement itself isn't changed. In the meantime, I'd suggest something at least more semi-permanent for hosting of the higher encoding such as Google Pages. Putfile, Rapidshare, Getfile, Nowfile, Wutfile, WHOAfile, et al. are all poor hosting choices.

I only saw this now. Did you get this? If not, I can hook you up.

OCR00569 - Mega Man X "Brainsick Metal"
Liontamer replied to orkybash's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
It's definitely a faux pas to ask an arranger to heavily redo a track, especially an older piece, like zircon mentioned. I wouldn't expect anything to come of the request, to be honest. The best you could hope for is someone else deciding to do it, which is doubtful, though more unlikely things have happened. -
OCR01601 - *YES* Guilty Gear X2 'Destroy Movements' *RESUB*
Liontamer replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
An updated version is in. Could we have some new comments regarding the volume, especially from the 5 conditional YESs? Still seems rather low to begin with but it may be serviceable. After 3:00, things picked up a lot more though some of the big drums sounded lightly distorted. Not a huge deal, IMO. -

DO A REAL VOTE, JIZZYJON! http://project2612.org/download.php?id=61 - IceCap Zone 1 Wasn't feeling the stiffness of the piano to open things up, but the overall textures were good. Not sure why the string pad was so buried in the back from :46-1:16, as it barely filled the background at all. The beatwork pattern (1:16-2:13, 2:47-3:43) was initially cool, but got very repetitive and ended up dragging things down. Changeup at 2:15 was welcome, but the bowed string phrase leading to the transition sounded dynamically flat and had no power behind it. The production lacked sophisitication for the most part. The overall mixing here cames off flat in a lot of places. zircon had a lot of good suggestions to address those issues. Things sounded noticeable lossy with this encoding; why not bump up the bitrate? As underwhelmed as I was by the production though, the arrangement was nonetheless a lot stronger through more interpretation and development of the source material. At the end of the day, it's solid enough to get by. YES -

<djpretzel> what's the status on a louder version? <Larry> I mailed Chris yesterday <Larry> haven't heard back, but gave him the whole vote, relayed the issues on volume, told him (provided you also went YES) that if he wanted to just work on volume that was fine <Larry> but that it was also a potential opportunity to work on other issues if he wanted to <djpretzel> conditional yes w/volume fixed <djpretzel> also believe whatever encoder he's using has issues <djpretzel> 128... yeah <djpretzel> we could use 160 <djpretzel> and LAME preferably <djpretzel> essentially, if he sent any of us the raw WAV of the evaluated sub, we could fix it <Larry> he could probably fix it; it's just that he hosts on Soundclick, so they automatically force it down to 128kbps; they may reencode the files <Larry> I'll just let him know to use a better hosting source or attach That's the word from up yonder by the Pretzel man. Props to Chris to running the gauntlet and finally making it past those evil bastards!

"ROMance" - geek lovesong 80s synth megahit - feat. me
Liontamer replied to zircon's topic in Post Your Original Music!
Nice work. Lyrics were really creative, and I noticed the autobiographical nature of 'em back when I heard the WIP. That chip-style solo from 2:08-2:20 was swanky. ... j00 stupid nerd.
