OCR01340 - Seiken Densetsu 3 "Path-ology"
Weirdboyscott replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Absolutely delicious song, SOCboy, I already thought your music was awesome before, but this rises to a whole new level of greatness. Even when compared side-to-side with Dragonlord's MMZ2 ReMix (my other recent fav), it still stands out. I didn't see SOCs name at first when I downloaded it, and I was doubting that anything could hold some water in comparison to Cool Mind, but this one certainly does. 5/5, instant reccomendation SOCko. -
OCR01338 - Mega Man Zero 2 "Cool Mind"

I just now downloaded this song onto my flash drive while at school and started listening to it... wow, I must say this is definitely something. I love clean techno such as this, simple instruments, not really all that cluttered in variation of instruments (well, overly so at least), too many techno songs out there try and throw every single little synth trick they have into a song. Such as slowdown and intentional ugly distortion, that can work sometimes.. but this formula for this song is simply stupendous, not to mention the end result. My God... I remember the last MMZ2 song was outstanding in it's own right, but I didn't really pick up the original melody instantly like I did with this one, it's very amazing that all these hi-tech little beeps could flow together without any true glue, and still work flawlessly. This is going on my next VGMCD for sure, outstanding job Dragonlord, I salute you. -
OCR01278 - Super Street Fighter II "Fei Longer"
Weirdboyscott replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I had placed this on my latest OCR CD, just because I had heard it when I was half asleep and thought it was cool and jotted it down in a .txt file. But when I actually listened to the whole thing while driving on the long haul to school I make 3 times a week? DAMN I'm impressed, Star, very impressed. This has the phattest beat of just about any Street Fighter or even Capcom or even any VGMix on this site, and is definitely one of the most well made comedic ones. Fei Long's howling is the FUNNIEST thing to hear coming out of my car when I have the windows rolled down. Seeing people's reactions to the screaming Fei-Boy is always golden. Thanks for mixing this Starby. -
I was thinking to myself 'how can you even compare to Triforce Majure?', but this is friggin McVaffe, why did I even have any doubts, while I can't really write a read-along review like I did with DD's remix, I just love the way these two Zelda remixes contrast each other. Dan's being powerful and epic, and McVaffe's being somber and elegant, almost like one portrays the dungeons of Zelda, while the other is exploring the corners of Hyrule or Termina. Love the little ocarina'd main theme at 4:00'ish. Most of this mix makes me think of Link heading down to LonLon ranch and making out with Malon . Or Link venturing to a land with strange creatures who have even stranger customs when they welcome him to their land. Bravo.

This mix is simply amazing, feels like something that would come from a movie soundtrack (Zelda movie = gasm). Very polished and high quality, this is the best Zelda remix I've heard in a long, long time. I love songs that build and evolve over time, Dan made this song so diverse it nearly plays out a plot in my mind! 0-1 Minutes - Link spies the entrance to a dungeoun, looks suspicious, but if he wants to free that sage... 1-2 Minutes - He's got to go in, with his master sword flying several weaker enemies are sliced in half/blown up/shot full of arrows. 2-3 Minutes - Stalfos rush! One skelton attacks from dead ahead, but Link's Hylian shield blocks the blow, but while straining to keep the weight of this enemy's blade back... at 2:15 a second Stalfos charges from his unguarded left! Backflip into a sword-triwl! The sneak attacking stalfos is dealt with, and with a few more sword slashes so is the original... 3-4 Minutes - On an adrenaline high, Link explores the next room of the dungeon, just walking around happily until... (you can easily make this part out if you listen) Link falls off a ledge at 3:20! But grasps the side just in time, peering down into the abyss he spies something down below... another ledge with the boss key! 4-5 Minutes - A quick leap down, and a decorated treasure chest opened, Link dashes to the boss room, running his sword through lesser enemies, slaying a Moblin before finally coming to that gold lock... at 4:45 you can just make out a door close scene with a sneaky boss like Gohma in OoT crawling around on the walls, just waiting... 5-6 Minutes - The boss shows himself, and Link attacks him several times around the legs... nothing, a sword -twirl to the chest and he's laughing in Link's face. The boss backhands Link back into the dirt, and stomps on him while he's down, at 5:50 the music is so high strung I can almost make out the familar warning beep when you're running on one heart. 6-6:45 Minutes - Link reaches into his pocket and pulls out a red potion, quickly takes a gulp of it, and dashes out of the way just in time to miss a sword blow that would've cleaved him in half... and its then the boss's weakness is revealed! While the sword is stuck in the ground his eye starts glowing green, he pulls out his bow and arrow and fires a shot off! The boss is pissed now, but so enraged he misses Link again, and another arrow flies into his eye, and another as Link runs circles around him threading one arrow after another into his bowstring until the boss falls to one knee, panting heavily... and is soon finished off by a master sword decapitation. 6:45-End - Link gains his medallion, freeing the sage of this dungeon, and makes his way out, just another day in the life of the Hero of Time.

OCR01040 - Chrono Trigger "600 A.D. in Piano"
Weirdboyscott replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
heh, same here... that was... what *thinks* at least 3 months ago, maybe even 6 months ago if I remember correctly. Great stuff here Klutz, its one of my favorite pieces from Chrono Trigger, a very simple yet emotional piece. -

I remember playing this game way back when I was around eight years old or so, this song brings back memories, oldschool awesomeness! -
OCR00969 - Wolfenstein 3D "Nazi Requiem"
Weirdboyscott replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I'm sure its been mentioned before, but good god I love the way the samples go with the song, it reminds me a lot of Hell March from Command and Conquer Red Alert, only orchestral. -
OCR00967 - Super Metroid "Zebesian Midnight"
Weirdboyscott replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Late into minute four and early into the fifth minute... my favorite part... its just so... wow... gives you that errie/beautiful feeling the Metroid soundtracks are trying to convay, very VERY good stuff. -
OCR00962 - Super Mario Bros. "Water Main"
Weirdboyscott replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Nintendo mix with guitars? Who could ask for anything else? Seriously though, this remix is just plain awesome, the only fault is that its a tad too short... ahh well, thats what the loop feature is for. -
OCR00878 - Mega Man 3 "Mega Man 2003"
Weirdboyscott replied to DarkCecil13's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I barely played this game and already I love this mix, I really like a song that at least some kind of build to it, like the beginning will start off real faint and quiet... then it immedietly picks up, thats what this remix does, and its very well done, Gecko. The revving sounds in the middle, the part where it goes "Lets go!" and uses the heavy beeping noises... definitly one of my favorite parts. Overdone tune? Hell, I've never heard it before, I don't download many Mega Man 3 remixes, barely played the game, I was more into Mega Man 2. Good stuff Gecko! -
OCR00916 - Chrono Trigger "Ruined Landscape"
Weirdboyscott replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The first word that came to my mind when listening to this mix: Pimpin'. Yup, the deep resoinating notes gave me the mental image of someone walking down the street... in a pimage kinda walk, the cane, furry jacket, sunglasses and all. Y'know doing the whole *gunshot with hand* kinda move to the ladies when he passes by, gotta love the mix, biatch! -
OCR00914 - Red Alarm "Red Dimension"
Weirdboyscott replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Yumm, this remix isn't done in the original instruments that made it, but somehow it reminds me a lot of the beeping type music of the Virtual Boy, thats good in two aspects. One, I really don't like the sound of beeping synths (like NES music), and two I really enjoy mixes that are true to the original. Very good stuff, I almost wet my pants seeing the game on the screen, hehe -

OCR00809 - Luigi's Mansion "That Balcony Thing"

I'm not much on describing the little aspects of songs that make them grand, I can only think of one word right now... Tasty! But seriously, its an awesome way to start the Gamecube selection of music here, ohh and orky, go out and buy a GCN, its as amazing as this song is -
OCR00129 - Diablo "Wet Grass Inspired"

I always did love the Tristram theme, and this remix is just adding to the glory of that mp3, spectacular work, especially with giving that classic acoustic guitar more flavor to the tune than the original. -
OCR00073 - Lotus II R.E.C.S. "Overdrive"
Weirdboyscott replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Heh, when I first saw the game that this song was from, I was a little surprised, I thought I was the only one who owned this flop of a game, it was way too easy, but the music was catchy, yargh! Heh, but good mix none the less, nice SFX usage. -
OCR00793 - Wizards & Warriors "Kono Sekai De"

OCR00466 - Street Fighter II "Retro Russian"

This song uses some cool effects I must say, when I was downloading it I couldn't remember the Zangeif level tune at all, but once I started listenint to it, I remembered right away. Now, about those nifty effects, the one thats the coolest is when this one sweet sounding tune just seems to jump out at you, yeah, you know what Im talking about. -
OCR00765 - Perfect Dark "Deploy"
Weirdboyscott replied to orkybash's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Grr, I wish people would stop dissing this mix, its very good in my opinion. Perfect Dark is easily my favorite N64 game and I think adding guitars to this piece was excellent, the robitic voice was a nice touch too. I'm gonna walk around sayin' that today.. I am a machine.... vasty superior to humans.... -
OCR00767 - Bomberman II "Bomberfuzz"
Weirdboyscott replied to orkybash's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I listened to this mix at least a good 3 or 4 times as soon as I downloaded it, WOW WEE what a headrush, crazy japanese voices screaming things always is a plus. That is easily one of the most energenic and off the wall insane songs Ive ever heard, and I sure as hell love it! -
Wow, its about time someone did a remix of this game, its about the only ROM I play now a days, and I play it pretty often, so in my book, no matter how basic sounding or undeveloped everyone else says, I still love it just the way it is. Leaving the tune pretty much in tact is fine by me, because it was so darn good in the first place. Now if only someone'll do a mix of Tallgeese's Stage and the Mercurious Stage....
