  1. okay, I downloaded a bunch of free soundfonts for my fruityloops full, but for some reason whenever I try to use soundfonts and then save my work, it alerts me that "some of the plugins you have used are demos" and it deletes all the channels with soundfonts before saving it. Is there something wrong with my FL, and is there a way around this other than changing the soundfont channels into other channels until I am ready to export?
  2. This starts out with a repeat of the main melody that is probably very similar to the original song, but then it leads into a guitar patch with some more original mixing. I don't like it as much as some of the other Far Promise mixes - this one is probably the most clearly underdeveloped of the batch, but it has its good parts. Also, like many of the Far Promise mixes, it's pretty short, but given how little of his talent Pollard used on this one, it's probably for the best. Even so, get it and compare it to the rest of the Far Promise flood!
  3. I think this is mp's #1 track - chronologically, that is. In terms of quality, I wouldn't put it on top, but it's close. It has stereotypical (but well done) drums, a great main synth, a distant-sounding piano, and some very evident compositional skills - wonderful use of solos and barely audible chords. It actually ends pretty quickly, though, and the fade-out ending is a little disappointing. Cool.
  4. This piece showcases some very good percussion, a great variance of instruments (I can't identify half of them, but the bass and piano are well-done), and some nice jazziness. For those of you who don't like jazz, you may not like this one, but give it a chance - it may surprise you. McVaffe certainly knows what he's doing, and this is proof. His many and extremely varied submissions are the perfect example of what someone SHOULD do. Chalk another one up for McVaffe.
  5. This starts out with a breif piano melody, but it isn't long before the techno beat kicks in. Cool slow strings and good synths (especially one that sounds almost like an ethnic instrument) make their appearances. Pretty good use of reverb, too. This is a good song, but that little thing that makes it a GREAT song is just a little out of reach...
  6. Pretty basic percussion, a good, tough acoustic guitar (patch, I believe), some good piano, and good composition skills - I would expect nothing less out of McVaffe. It has some cool solo's and mixups, and is a pretty good mix, but it's not as masterful as some of McVaffe's other mixes (such as Super Mario 64 'Liquid Mario', Sonic 3 'IceCapped', and Castlevania 4 'CastleTrance'). It fits the title well, though. EDIT>>> fixed URL tags
  7. This is a very fun mix - it blends unrelated FF4 and FF6 songs together SEAMLESSLY, and has a good dose of cool drums and snazzy horns. I wouldn't call it mp's best mix, but this one's a pretty fun romp, and while it isn't very high in the tempo category, it's pretty energetic anyway. I'm not a big fan of the Devil's Lab tune, but I have to give some big applause to mp - superior and creative mixing skillz!
  8. I dunno why, but I never liked the Devil's Lab tune. This rendition by the big McV is pretty true to the game, but it's actually a bit tamer than the real thing. It's slower, and uses more regular instruments than random bashings and crashings. Not my favorite from McVaffe, but not bad. It does have a nice variety of instruments, though - pizzacatos, snare drums, some kind of horn, strings, and a decent dose of synths. If you're looking for a hectic mix though, look elsewhere - there are several other Devil's Lab mixes (not all of which are in my possesion).
  9. Darn it, I wanted to be the first to review this ReMix! I absolutely love the cellos, and the cool percussion (it makes me think of a bunch of people messing around in an alchemy room, dinging on vials and such...). It's a little repetetive, but I barely noticed because the song is so well done. A little more length and improvisation would've made it even cooler, but as it is, it's great anyway. Now you've inspired me to go experimenting with cellos... *disappears into his FL music lab, banging some beakers along the way*
  10. Orchestral? Yes. Good? Better than good. This is an awesome mix! It has wonderful but sadly intermittent marching-style drums in the background, nice slow strings, isn't repetetive at all. The main lead in the beginning sounds something like a mix between a single bagpipe and a violin, but it sounds good either way. This mix is just over two minutes, and it definitely leaves you wanting a lot more. There are some nice subdued trumpets at around 1:14, and the whole thing makes me think of Braveheart... A nice music-box ending, too, though it's not a unique touch...
  11. Yes, this song DOES have really bad recording - there's some random static at certain points, but it's REALLY well done. A mellow, all-piano remix of the Far Promise song, it improvises more on the original melody than a few others, is beatifully arranged, and can be put on loop for hours on end. I'd really like to see a newer recording of this song with no fuzz. Even so, it's one of the better Far Promise mixes. Get it.
  12. This is a fairly original take on the FarPromise song - it's not very fast, but it has some cool instruments and doesn't get boring, though it's not a song you can loop on and on for hours.. This mix, like several of AmIEvil's (see his Shadowgate 'Dancefloor' remix), is very solid all the way through, but doesn't change much and is just "pretty good", not "great". It IS however, as I've said, one of the more original styles of FarPromise mixes.
  13. The underlying "drum" beat sounds very Megaman-esque, but on top of it, AmIEvil fits some really good dance music. It's not too repetetive, always gets me tapping my foot, and doesn't slack off anywhere. The only qualm I have with this song is that it's not very long (2:30) and doesn't have any parts that stand out as being really cool - just solid, better-than-average dance all the way through.
  14. This is a GREAT, GREAT song. It's similar to AE's rendition of the same theme, but this one has strings in the background, a less prominent drum beat, and is also more trance-like. While I admit to being a sucker for Trance, this is especially good trance. I can't really decide which is better, but I can definitely tell you this: GET THIS SONG.
  15. Wow. Unlike about half the remixes of this song, this one is very different, and in a GREAT way. Energetic punk mix, and very similar to his Time Punk remix. My favorite of the Far Promise flood, by far. Head banging is an understatement. Get it THIS SECOND!
  16. I must say, I absolutely LOVE the cello that starts off the main melody in this song. The rest of it is great too, and sounds like it's from a movie soundtrack. At 0:43, there's a nice instrument that I think is supposed to be a violin, though it sounds like a single bagpipe, but don't take that as an insult - it sounds great. The marching drums fit in quite well, and the background string section is well done. A little past halfway through, it changes, to sound less sad and more hopeful, but near the end it goes back to a piano and music box version which is reminiscent and melancholy. One of the better Far Promise mixes.
  17. I was all set to give this ReMix a fairly bad rap, and then I heard the last 20 seconds, done in a music box melody. The percussion is decent, and the background synths are good, but the whole mix lacks some of the creativity found in other remixes. I love the bongo beat in the beginning, which seems to fade until it is nearly gone. The background synths aren't quite moody enough, and the whole mix seems like DarkCecil13 is holding back. The reserved nature of the song is somewhat made up for with the music box at the end, but I would have preferred it if DC13 really expanded a lot more. I bet if he re-did this song now, with all the skill he's gained over the last year and a half, it would be much better. Even so, it's worth its spot on the site and deserves to be a part of your Far Promise collection.
  18. I personally am addicted to good trance, and this has become one of my new favorites! It has a great variety of synth pads, builds on the best parts of the original song and doesn't sound too similar, has a nice variety of effects, and has a great melody. Oh, and when I hit the fake ending, I was just about to restart the song from the beginning when I noticed it wasn't quite over. The main (and only) criticism I have against this piece is that its drums are a bit steriotypical and unvaried, though at least they aren't ever-present. Great job by Ghetto Lee Lewis. =D
  19. Amazing! I love this mix! Lullabye, energetic mix... The distortion guitar rocks the house! Go Thumper! Now we just need a Frog mix like this...
  20. This remix relies quite a bit on the main melody, which tends to wear out after a while (I've had this song for a long time, though.. it doesn't die out THAT quickly). Even so, it's a great remix, with good arrangement and use of a variety of sounds. Not exactly upbeat or downbeat, but a good listen.
  21. An interesting take on E Honda's theme. The resemblance to Hey Mr. DJ is actually evident if you listen closely. The song is made up of a slow, electronic/ethnic (electhnic? ... whoa, big tongue twister there...) melody. Somehow it just feels like McVaffe is holding back, though.. there are no solos of note, nor any instruments that really catch your ear. Worth an occasional listen, but not the kind of tune you can play nonstop for hours.
  22. Not having heard the original version, I don't know exactly what has happened, but from what I hear, McVaffe has undoubtably made some big improvements. A latin-sounding piano pulls off much of the melody, along with various electronic sounds that I can only describe as "phazzy". There's also a nice flute, and lots of awesome percussion (I think I even hear some Maracas). McVaffe utilizes his superb arrangement skills and manages to vary the beat quite a bit. I like this one quite a bit, and I have no doubt you will too.
  23. While I don't consider myself a Kirby fanatic, I do like playing the Kirby games, and I do love the classic Kirby theme. This isn't that theme, and I found it just a bit too slow and not chaotic enough to be a great Kirby ReMix. It's not bad, but it just somehow doesn't push the right buttons. Ah, well, certainly it's not all bad, and you may or may not like it, depending on how much you've played Kirby's Dreamland...
  24. If you're only looking for jamming, high-tempo songs, don't get this one. Otherwise, DOWNLOAD NOW! A beautiful harp-and-piano melody, backed up by strings, takes up the bulk of this one. It's a very good piece to go to sleep to (gee, what a coincidence)
  25. This mix starts out with a downbeat, jazzy tune, followed in a little bit with great piano and strings. This mix should probably be described as 'swingin'. I must say, McVaffe has done great things with this one. The sitar is especially awesome, and somehow manages to fit surprisingly well. All in all, a very neat melody and a great improvement. You should listen to all the way through at least once, even if the style isn't your thing.
