  1. A really sweet mix of a nice original. Taucer's guitar work is blazing awesome. The lyrics feel like they're a little forced to the melody, but they're cool nonetheless. The harmonies don't sound quite right sometimes, also. Interesting note, pixie's part at 2:35-2:45 sounds really similar to the start of Hikaru Utada's Passion ~opening ver~ for the Kingdom Hearts II soundtrack. I'm hooked.
  2. Oh, now you've gone and done it. What's sacred now, if people can remix modern MMORPGs like WoW? Next thing you know they'll be remixing the music from TV SHOWS or something! P.S. good mix, and good luck getting Midway to notice you.
  3. When I was listening, and suddenly pixietricks' voice kicked in, my first thought was that my playlist had slipped into my anime soundtracks folder. Then it occurred to me, and I said, "Wow."
  4. Looking forward to this release. But I'd rather see two separate torrents than one. I don't know how to use "do not download" though I could probably figure it out. I bet many, many other people who would be torrenting it will ALSO not know how, and some of them won't realize they can or should. So it may be easier to manage to have one torrent, but two parallel torrents will probably cut bandwidth usage and ease of use for downloaders significantly.
  5. The composition in this mix is great. The guitar playing rocks, and the lyrics aren't bad. But -- I'm sorry -- the vocals ruin the mix. Your pitch is a little shaky in several places, and your vocal style is definitely "thin." That said, I'd love to hear a version of this song with better vocals, maybe some years down the line when your skill has gotten better. After all, look where djpretzel was years ago and where he is now in terms of vocals. I'm sure you have the same potential to improve, and this song is way too catchy to leave marred by subpar vocals.
  6. I eagerly anticipate the release of this project. I just know it's going to be awesome.
  7. I listened to several WIPs of this before, and I said then what I say now: "This is some weird shit. I love it." Then again, I've always been a whore for your weirder mixes, Mythril. Captain Planet, he's a hero... ...Oops, wrong mix. Congrats.
  8. A very calming "chill" tune, it's a surprising success; congratulations, OverCoat, on finally getting posted -- this mix deserves it. I've seen some very strong improvement in OverCoat's works lately, such as his two anime remixes, a trend which, he explains, is "only because I'm starting to actually make revisions." Case in point: I listened to a pair of in-progress versions of this mix, and I can definitely say that the revisions have helped significantly. This mix is "chill" style, a genre of music I have only recently started to become attached to. We begin with some very soothing airy pads and some synthetic bass riffs. Soon a relaxing, effective drumloop kicks in. It's only one loop, played throughout the song, (a trademark of OverCoat's style, one might contend) but it's a good loop. In some styles of music, more variation in the drums would be a necessity, but here, the calm loop is effective and doesn't really ever grate. Even after listening to the mix at least four times, I can't say I've gotten annoyed at the looping of the drums. The lead is played by a fiddle, with an interesting echo applied to it; somehow, it conjures the image of a path through one of those Seiken Densetsu forests. The echo adds a dreamlike quality to it, so that the mix really starts to chill the listener out. Not having heard the original, I don't have much to compare it to, but I can guess which parts of the song are original, and OverCoat has certainly done enough to mix things up and make the song original. There's some nice variation in the things the instruments play, especially a wonderful solo in the vicinity of 2:26-2:36 by a flutelike, bubbly synth. The chord progression appears to have been modified to be more calming, in true "chill" style. Now, one thing that this mix certainly lacks is a high-octane, high-energy section: that's not an accident, because it wouldn't fit with the song's mood. However, one could still make an argument that the song is perhaps a little too slow and not varied enough. The instruments don't play the same thing over and over again, but the instrumentation is not highly dynamic: there is some variation, though, and for me it's enough. Not perfect, but calming and carefully crafted, I look forward to seeing more like this. (Gee, now I'm starting to sound like Mythril "I look forward to seeing more from you" Nazgul.
  9. First off, this isn't a mix of the classic Tetris song. It's a different, less-addictive original song. This mix, however, has its own advantages. It starts with a deep humming synth and a few sound effects to create a kind of ambient atmosphere. Then, the bass synth kicks in, followed shortly by a main synth. Throughout the arrangement, there are a couple of synths as well as some slightly cheesey drum samples. The samples here vary in their quality and effectiveness. The most ugly sample is the central drum sample, which fortunately doesn't play nonstop. An occasional ochestra hit sample is also more annoying than anything else. There are some more and less interesting synths: the bass synth is incredibly boring; the main synth, while a little better-sounding than the bass, could've come straight from a SNES box. Some of the ambient sounds, though, are quite interesting (chirps, whistles, and moans, among other things) and there is also a cool echoing piano and a haunting string synth. The arrangement of Techtris TypeZ is best described as inconsistent. It starts out with a creepy soundscape feel, but soon delves into some very dull techno that is probably very close to the original theme, plus a very repetetive bass loop, and the aforementioned fake-sounding drums (also in a repetetive loop). Then, nearly halfway through, there's a more haunting scene again, which sounds very cool -- the moaning strings with the echoing piano and some odd sfx to add depth and unpredictability, and the bass loop even sounds good with it. Then, unfortunately, it lapses back into the boring, generic techno. The ending is also quite abrupt and generic. Those of you who know Danny B's "Awakened Fears of the Gerudo" mix from VGMix.com will recognize the haunting style that is this piece's strong point. However, unlike that mix, Techtris TypeZ is ruined by a stale and repetetive central passage. This mix had a lot of potential, but in the end it turned out only mediocre.
  10. This is a great mix - it's light and catchy, like several of the Kirby mixes we have. I will admit that it's not much like Beatdrop's usual style, but that's okay because both styles are good. This is fun, with some nice samples, not long but not incredibly short, and overall just bouncy, bouncy, fun fun fun. And as for the tempo change, I don't really like it a ton, but it's not as bad as some people would have you believe - and I do like the way it speeds up. This mix reminds me very much of Double A Ron - Floating Islands of Beach Manitoba, so if you liked that you'll quite possibly like this, and vice versa.
  11. This is a nice jazzy remix of the main Zelda theme. It's a little short and nothing really special goes on, but it's fun nevertheless - easy to listen to, and a nice background - beats the heck out of elevator music. I wouldn't say it's AmIEvil's best, but it's worth downloading.
  12. This is my favorite of CotMM's work, and simply because he has transformed the happy, joyous Bubble Bobble mix into an ominous, evil track. This mix is often overlooked, however, as the kid-brother mix to the re-remixed AsphyxiatedInABubble version, but this one is nice because it retains a wonderful semblance of the original, as if it had simply been turned into a negative image, whereas Asphyxiated is like it had been turned into a negative image, shredded to pieces by a horde of monkeys with scissors, then somehow pieced into something that rocks the house. The samples in particular are nice in both mixes, as we've come to expect from CotMM - but this is a classic, and one everyone should keep close to their heart - but not too close should it decide to go on an insane rampage.
  13. This is very similar to Decay of Hope, so if you didn't really care for that, you won't care for this either. I got this a couple weeks ago and am just listening to it the first time now, and reading CotMM's review, I felt that he was being a little too hard on himself - and I was right. This isn't an extremely accessible track, but it's very dark and painful -- I don't mean it's painful to listen to, mind you -- and a suitable intro for Decay of Hope. One thing with this mix is that it's not extremely long, and the ending doesn't have the kind of climax that most of CotMM's similar tracks have. However, this is a fun mix simply because it's original, and I love all those grating sounds and the way this makes the Magus theme seem so much more evil. The samples/synths/etc in particular are incredibly cool, as CotMM's usually are. This really is a song that will turn off a majority, but is really cool if you can learn to appreciate its unique beauty.
  14. This is not my favorite Radical Dreamers mix, but it's got a nice personal touch on it - unlike all the myriad orchestral mixes, CotMM puts a sweet little industrial touch on it. On the other hand, it is somewhat like most of the other Radical Dreamers flood mixes, in that it is short and underdeveloped - rushed, no doubt, to fit the submit date - it has some nice samples and a some arrangemental originality, but nothing particularly special in the wake of so many mixes of the same song, other than its genre. If you're looking for a high-quality industrial mix, look at something else - perhaps CotMM's Chrono Trigger 'OceanPalaceWaveBreaker' mix is for you. If you're looking for an individual and unusual take on Far Promise, however, check this out.
  15. Not having played either Diablo, the original was unfamiliar to me - but this mix is worth listening to. It's not the apex of mp's achievement, but it's a good song. Unfortunately, it's only 1:39, so it's not exactly a lengthy track by any means. The instruments used are nice, the arrangement is good, but there's nothing in particular that stands out and the whole thing feels like it's missing a little something, that extra "Oomph" that makes a good remix a great remix. The ending in particular is disappointing, because you feel like there's a great transition on its way and then the song just ends. Still, a good mix, just not a great one. Don't let this discourage you from getting more mp tracks, though - this is one of his shortest and weakest mixes, and that's saying a little something.
  16. This is a pretty interesting ReMix, but not in the best way. It's not absolutely horrible, but as CotMM said, it's a little "rough." The recording quality is kinda nasty, with a lot of fuzziness and stuff. Overall, it's a decent mix but not an incredibly good one. The intro is the sound of an orchestra tuning up, which is interesting, and I think a nice touch. The main FF prelude arpeggio is played on a piano, with few or no changes from the original. The song hits an arrangemental peak at about 0:43, with some nice chords and stuff. For the next 45 seconds or so, it's just the piano, over and over again, and it gets a little annoying - at about 1:29, though, the background comes back and it seems quite a bit better - and it continues for a little while, before dropping off into flat prelude for a few moments before coming back with a second piano, finishing off the segment, and ending with an applause sound byte - another nice touch, but I don't know that the song really deserved the applause. Simple arrangement, poor sound quality, and (you might say, thankfully) only 2:31 - it's not exactly Mr. Pordon's best work - it's something of an earlier piece from him, and a nice reminder that we don't all start out perfect - everyone gets slowly better, and even such skilled remixers as Steve weren't always as good as they are now.
  17. This is an interesting song, but it's not exactly a genre I like. The drums are a little boring, and the original melody doesn't seem to have been that good. Unfortunately, djp didn't spice it up as well as he usually does, so this ends up being an unimpressive piece. It has some good points though, and there are certainly worse songs out there. If a slow groove is what you're looking for, this is it. Otherwise, you might want to skip.
  18. First few seconds: This is dance? 0:12: Oh. Yes it is. Breath of Fire is an awesome series, and this is a great remix. I love the synth! Sooooo liquid, soooo cool. The melody is used perfectly and the arrangment skills shown are impeccable. Gman, I have to give you major props for this. As a side note, nothing but the main synth is really noticeable, but that's okay because the main synth 0w/Vz j00.
  19. AmIEvil has given us a really nice one. You'll probably like it if you haven't heard the Zelda Darkworld theme, but if you have, you'll love it. It's chalk-full of good samples and nice arrangement. I love the trumpets for the main melody. It should have had a little more refinement though - it's not been polished as much as some remixes these days.
  20. This remix is so creepy, it's awesome. It rips the heart out of that little plassssssssssticcc godddddesssssssss with a metallic ripper. It may be an acquired taste, but one can't deny that what CotMM has done here is incredible. You can just barely hear that hint of a melody that lets you imagine what this must have sounded like... and then you can truly appreciate the sheer twisting this track has taken. CotMM, I salute you.
  21. Chalk up another one for the Pretz! (don't hurt me) An amazing mix of synths, some cool whispering (a la mp's Xenogears 'TransientSands~Dazil'). There are some very incredible synths, and some of them are so very DJP that it's hard not to recognize him right off. One of them even sounds like a sitar! The melody is done well, with some unrecognizeable string patch, with plenty of layers behind it. There are so many instruments, many of them quiet (like the groovin' piano starting @ 2:43). It's a great mix, and one that you should listen to at least once.
  22. Okay... weird. Awesome. My respect for Mazedude has just gone up TWO notches. Incredible use of nonsense samples with pretty bad original music, and somehow it IS "Happy Industrial". Scary. Get it. Definitely one of the "Whoa, that's weird. I love it!" songs on the site (see Alexander Prievert's Shadowman 64 'DeadsideDance' also...)
  23. This mix reminds me a little too much of the Gold Saucer from FF7... it's not quite as loud and seizure-inducing as that tune, but the feel is kinda similar. This is from WAAAAAAAAAY back when, in the days of yore, so its quality can't really measure up to the standards these days; the software (I'm not trying to diss vocalwriter, really!) just wasn't the same then. This mix won't dazzle and it won't astound, but it's not to bad, a fairly solid piece of OCR history. Give it a try.
  24. Finally! A good Raiden mix! I was considering making a mix of this particular tune myself, but never got around to it. Rayza does some great things with this mix; the orchestral in the beginning is fairly true to the tune, but the techno expands on it with new melodies and things, all of which are good (a few of them fairly standard techno, though.) Lots of cool synths, good drums, and a nice balance between staying true to the original and improvising. I especially love the drum solo at 2:24. The only gripe I have with it is that it's fairly predictable as far as techno goes. As djp would say, reccomended.
  25. Wow. I must say that I was doubtful of Mazedude's talent as a remixer, since I had only listened to his BubblyClouds mix, but WOW! There is NO FREAKING WAY I can doubt it now. This thing is WILD. I love those awesome guitar-like synths and soundfonts and stuff... It's so violent and powerful, and yet so calm at the very beginning and ending... I love it. This is going to be one of my favorite mixes for a while... Again: WOW. WOW WOW WOW. OMFG. The cool industrial percussion is awesome too. I need to get my hands on some of these instruments, Mazedude. HAND THEM OVER! Oh, and good piano too. =) Absolutely, positively amazing.
