  1. RESUB 1 Original Decision Contact Info: Blue Magic Damon Campbell Website: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Blue-Magic/112273878949888 User ID: 4656 Submission Info: SaGa Frontier A Journey in Solitude Bio Lab Theme: Original song Youtube link: http://youtu.be/GlGXCGjMeNk Hey everyone, I have another resubmission for you all. It's another really old one that was rejected back in 2004, and again in 2005. If I remember correctly, it was my second remix attempt right after my Panic Puppet Zone remix. Here are the rejection threads: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2472 http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=3149 I actually did this version back in 2009, but I never submitted it because I was not really happy with my skills at the time, and honestly didn't think it would pass because of EQing issues. I'm still not fully satisfied with myself as a remixer, but I think I at least have a better understanding of what I was doing wrong and how to correct it. I reopened this project just to see if I could make it more balanced and keep everything from sounding all cluttered up and over-compressed. I didn't really alter or upgrade the soundfonts (yes they're all soundfonts and FL samples) I used when I made it even though I do have better sounding VSTs available, because I always say, "It's not the samples you use, but how you use them!" So, they are definitely not gonna sound "live." It might be too late now since the submission standard has been raised since I actually made this song, but I'm gonna try anyway. Thanks for your time, Damon Campbell
  2. original decision Brent Wollman Userid: 41181 Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory Arrangement title: The Friendly Shadows Individual songs arranged: Kokubo Sosho Stealth, Kokubo Sosho Battle, Rutheless (Reprise) Source Tracks: Here is this one again. I made a lot of changes. It gets a little weird. Source Breakdown: 0:00-0:06 Original At 6 seconds, the main drum pattern comes in. this is predominant in the first song I linked. It's such a badass beat that I chose to base most of the mix on it. 0:18-0:24 Here the bass part from the first track (Kokubo Sosho Stealth) comes in. In the original it comes in right along with the drums. 0:24-0:30 This is the first half of the melody from the chorus in the first source track. 0:30-0:42 Bass part from Stealth 0:42-0:55 Here is the chorus melody again, completed this time. 0:55-1:12 Familiar drum and bass pattern... 1:12-1:37 The rhythmic percussive sound from the very beginning of the second tune I linked shows up pretty quiet and then at 1:12 it takes the stage. The chorus melody shows up again and plays a couple times. 1:37-1:52 A sample from the third linked track shows up behind that same bass/drum pattern from earlier. 2:52-2:16 The melody on the distorted bells here is from the part at exactly 2:17 in the third track I linked. 2:16-END A bunch of effects wankery on the main drum pattern from the first track.
  3. Original Decision Remixer name: Bluelighter Real Name: Guillaume SAUMANDE Mail: ID forum: 30998 Game & Songs: ff10 & Twilight, The Deceased Laugh Interpreter: Guillaume SAUMANDE (piano) Composer: Junya Nakano, Nobuo UEMATSU (only for the first arpeggios) Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoAP9rnS7j8 Hi ! Here my piano version of Twilight from ff10. I really love the original music of Junya NAKANO, atmospheric, and very murky! I wanted to keep the nature very atmospheric from the original. I started by the first arpeggio from “The Deceased Laugh”; and continue by arpeggios with the first harmonies of “Twilight”. After this, I used a rhythm heavy, slow and hesitating; in low and then in high. The arrangement finished by some quick arpeggios, very dissonant. In this piece, there are some reference to movies like Dracula and The Ninth Gate (music by Wojciech Kilar). Don’t look for a melody; it’s only an atmospheric piece with piano In response to your precedent feedback, I’ve made a new record, this time directly linked to my synthesizer in order to have a cleaner sound. Thank’s to consider this mix, and I hope you’ll enjoy!! Bluelighter

Link: (160 kbps was the minimum required for greatest quality in this case) Comments: "This remix took quite a while to craft. I ended up having to create my own Zebra2 and Massive patches, creating my own reverb, and definitely watching the dynamics. I'm quite proud of what came out of this, so I hope you enjoy it! - Timaeus http://mpcr.site88.net/ http://timaeusproductions.bandcamp.com/ Source: Jazz Jackrabbit 2 - Hell Freezes Over" Extra Info: This is a major revision from a previous submission. Lots of compression issues, excess reverb, odd balance, static soundscapes, and percussion repetition were fixed. Signed, Timaeus222
  5. Resub decision Original decision ReMixer Name: Fallen Seraph Real Name: Wina Kamlongera Email addy: userid: 10661 Name of game arranged: Dark Cloud 2 - Dark Chronicle Name of arrangement: Strands of the Future Name of individual song arranged: Battle for the Future Me own comments: There's just something amazing about 'Battle for the Future'. I think I started the first draft of this mix just experimenting, trying to see if the source could work in a Hip-Hop context. I took what I felt was the grandest section of the source and relegated it to work as a 'break' for the arrangement, serving as an anchor for whatever I felt could work next. If I remember correctly, the opening piano phrase and the beat patterns (used in the second half of the first verse) were what drove the various ideas within the piece. I think this might be the third version headed to the panel, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm grateful for the panel feedback and have attempted to incorporate a lot of it into this version. In addition to the great critiques from the judges, I showed one (later) version of the track to Mansoor (Dj Mystix) for some much needed feedback and guidance. So, thanks to him as well, he definitely helped me take note of other problem areas that were still holding the arrangement back. Hope I've done everyone proud with this revision! Um...what else? (I'm trying to remember why I called it 'Strands of the Future'...it might be the mental image I get for the way the Fruity Love Philter works on some of the instruments...or I just ripped off the original title...) I think I imagine this as a sort of credits theme...yep...credits. -----------

Now I'm serious. Like, real serious. I've given a huge boost on improving my production skills these last months, and I think it's really starting to pay off. Here's a much cleaner, clarified mix, boosted drums, reviewed sound design. And of course, I fixed the panning issues A lot of credit goes to Sébastien for fixing the levels and some of the panning problems. And WillRock gave me tons of awesome feedback to help me get better. Thanks guys So yep, I believe this is much, much better than my last attempts, and I sincerely hope you guys will think the same Thank you all once more for your awesome work, and please enjoy!
  7. The previous version I heard of this a few months ago was a direct reject, and I feel like you've come a long way since then Cameron. I still think you've got a bit of a ways to go, but I felt like this has improved to the point where you could use some extra feedback from the other judges. The arrangement overall has improved quite a bit in terms of adding your own flair and making it your own. There are some sections that work better than others; 0:40 is a good start to a transition, but I think you could add a better lead-in synth to that to smooth things out, 0:59 works pretty well, and I'm tempted to say you should move it closer to the beginning, 1:14 has some nice little melody alterations, but maybe change that descending synth to something less piano-sounding so it isn't clashing as much, 2:12 is pretty enjoyable, 3:04 has some good melody alterations as well. Other sections aren't looking so hot: The opening feels very blocky with that synth chords, and the part coming in at 0:16 is overpowering, 1:42 has some funky note choices that aren't fitting well, and the same at 1:58, 2:52-2:55 has a weird note lead in. Overall it's a lot of little fixes and alterations in terms of arrangement. Production overall isn't too bad, a lot of it stems from some clashing instruments in terms of frequencies or sounding similar. I'd also suggest looking into adding some more humanization to the parts, and expanding on the soundscape a little more. Hopefully some other judges will have some more advice on that end of things. Overall I think you've got a mix that is definitely on the right track and just needs some more polish. You should take this to the WIP forums to get some more advice. Nice improvements overall, keep going! NO (resubmit)

  9. Hey guys! Thanks for taking a look at my submission. Remixer Name = Overwatch Name: Matt Campana Email: Site: http://www.mattcampana.net ID: 45225 Game: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Arrangement Name: Emerald Memories Song Arranged: Emerald Hill Zone This track was written to evoke a deep understanding of Sonic and his past. He, like us all, has had to give up things from his past so that something new can begin. I don't believe he runs because he is trying to get away from his past. I believe Sonic runs head on into his future. Please let this song inspire you to live your life fast, but to always bring a friend along that can airlift you out of tough situations. In the end, I wrote this because I believe there must be more emotive piano covers of Video Game Music. I want to continue to show the world how deep this music is. I intend to do that with my piano. Recorded in Cubase using the Ivory Steinway D plugin. Cheers! ------------
  10. Dear submission team, Thankyou for accepting my last submission: Quicksander. It was wonderful to see all the feedback it received, to see people's opinion of the genre of dubstep change and above all else, contribute to your awesome site. I am submitting another remix which I hope you'll also find acceptable, this time from Final Fantasy V. The file is attached and the details are below. At the tender age of 10, I was awestruck by the emotion of the music despite the limitations of the technology. It's quite possibly THE game that got me into wanting to make music. I wanted to create a piece that focused on the uplifting feel of the original dragon theme from the game, but only with a more modern and aggressive edge, while still keeping the adventurous undertones that the Final Fantasy series is so well known for. Much regards, Alex

I really have to stop spending 1.5yrs+ on remixes. I guess that's what I get for arranging things beyond my ability to do and then expecting it to go off without a hitch. This idea was born out of me just... REALLY wanting to cover this song becuase it always struck me as very emotional during the game. I came up with this story that sort if illustrates what may have been going through the Main Characters head (not gonna friggin say it becuase this game is to good to ever be spoiled by errant descriptions ever) as he climbed up one of the most annoying platforming sections in the game.... I had this exact vision of what I wanted for the background vocals and I wanted another voice to help them stand out a bit. I had noticed Escariot had a few videos on Youtube with him doing these barbershop-y harmonies with himself after he approached me and he did NOT disappoint. Those are some smooth "moonlight"s to counter my harsh over-pushed baritone!" Noah: "I actually approached Connor about a collab when I caught his WIP on the WIP Boards back in May '11. Between him doing musicy things and me doing schooly and worky and marriagey things, the song sorta sat for a while. I sent him my harmony vocals and provided some feedback as the updates came along. Lo and behold... song! Enjoy!" Lyrics: The wind cools my face Soft light leaves a trace Across sky and stone wall Imparting silent grace taste the mountain air It somehow helps me bear The pulse inside my being The drive to help and care (group vox) Moonlight, Soft light Shine on me Moonlight, tonight I climb Moonlight, soft light Strengthen me Moonlight, tonight It get's harder to breathe I should have made my leave Upon a flying dragon But I couldn't leave her be As I reach the peak Mechanically so weak But I will soon recover To find the past I seek (group vox) (chorus) Memories consume Make my body move Though it creaks and cries in protest from all the stress Flashing the images of those Who gave up their lives Trying to protect their homes Drives me on... I don't know who I am But I know what's right n I don't know who I am But I'll be the hero tonight... (group vox + chorus) Moonlight... shine on me.

  14. Jumping on the borderline wagon here. The end part is quite nice, and if the rest had the same energy and movement this would be an easy call. The opening to around 2:50ish has some treading water, although I think there are some brief shines of light (1:03-1:41 especially). YES (borderline)

I've duplicated the thread. -DS Hello OC ReMix, I have a submission I've spent a great deal of time on for you. This is the perfect place to submit, as it's none other than a Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone influenced piece. Now to the requested details! The orchestral part one version ('Act 1') is the result of years of being picky and trying to replicate a classical score with my available tools. The same goes for 'Act 2', a result of honing my skills as an EDM producer. 'Childhood' is definitely a derivative work over a cover, and with 'Green Hill Zone' being rather repetitive, I tried to add as much as I could, without straying from the main theme/goal...fun, good times as children. P.S. - This was originally to be one consecutive song, but was split into 2 tracks for CD and licensing purposes. It is my hope it can be submitted as one. This is a piano arrangement for Sky Chase Zone from Sonic 2. The original tune is very chill and calming... A relaxing and nicely paced song. So I wanted to convey it a little more by taking advantage of my applied reverb, and playing the tune without any of my typical arpeggios. So I played it nice and slowly and added my own section in the middle of the song. I used Logic Pro as my DAW. I used the Galaxy Vintage D library for the piano sound. --------------

I was leaning more towards the original Starman theme and wanted to distance it from Powerful Mario, as I wanted to retain as much of original progression of the few chords, without the song becoming too unrecognizable(the song is simple enough where it needs to be as close to the sources so it can still be identified no matter how it is remixed) and uses as much of the calming atmosphere as I can to set the proper mood, like towards the end, where rather than just stop, it continues on, as if passing on by, cool and calm. ---------------------

  22. This is a project mix for Fishy's and Brandon Strader's Final Fantasy IX remix album. You know the drill or something Contact Information Your ReMixer name - RiverSound Your real name- Markus Samuel Your email address - Your website - none yet Your userid (number, not name) on our forums, found by viewing your forum profile - 46930 Submission Information Name of game(s) arranged - Final Fantasy IX Name of arrangement - Little Old Fixations Name of individual song(s) arranged - Ceremony for the Gods The idea for this arrangement came about when I thought to myself, what if "Ceremony for the Gods"/"Before the Altar," the theme of the fake wedding scene, was a real wedding song in Conde Petie that always plays in the background during the ceremony? I then put myself in the shoes of old bachelor dwarves who would have arranged the song for folk instruments, so that they could gather at the local inn and vent their loneliness by playing their somber version of the song. Now what would it sound like? It was a fun little setting for the remix and gave me a chance to experiment with tavern-style folk. It didn't turn out as authentic as I had planned and it may not have that live performance feel to it, but I think the atmosphere remains true to the concept. I decided to exclusively use nylon guitar for this track because of its mellow old-school sound and pairing it up with melodica created a satisfying soundscape out of simple ingredients. Arrangement-wise, it certainly ended up on the liberal side of things, but I think it works in the context; it's a folk song, played by ye olde folk, so oftentimes they just come up with new stuff as they go. It's played a little differently every time! -------------------------

Around this time last year (August/Sept 2011) I entered my very first remix compo, the PRC. I love Tyrian and its music so definitely had extra motivation to submit the best mix I could. Back then, my skills were really really rough so the mix was not at all good. Though the arrangement was short, it did have some potential. I posted up this revised version on the WIP forums to get some feedback which really helped a great deal. I got some really useful feedback which resulted in this extended and better produced version. Instead of trying to replace all the instruments and re-recording parts I just exported the midi of the previous remix and started again. The arrangement itself is fairly conservative when looking at the themes and such but I really love playing around with the structure of a source. The intro is formed from the chorus. The verse theme is great, but due to its single chord harmonic progression I didn't feel I could do very much with it in terms of expansion. The original really manages to expertly capture a bright, upbeat catchy melody but also evoke some melancholy and emotion. As with all my ReMixes, I just wanted to try an enhance what is already written by the original composer and give the spotlight to aspects of the music that I really connect with. I Just want to also mention this is part of the PC ReMix Initiative by Archangel. Spread the word and get those Pre-2000 PC Remixes on OCR. There are many VGM gems and they aren't just on consoles Other than that, thank you again for listening and I look forward to your feedback. I really appreciate all you guys do for the community and like so many others, owe a lot of the skills I've learnt to OCR. Just as a P.s. I also wanted to say that my PC recently died and I lost a fair few project files. This one, I do have, but not the final version. Any revisions would mean me having to re-do quite a lot. -----------------------

Knowing what it's like to not have much rehearsal time together, I can definitely appreciate the performance you put on.
