  1. Song is an Alice in Wonderland and Grimoire of Alice medley from Touhou 4. Going for a flamenco style with a bit of classical as well. Remixer name: Zero16 ---------- - Wonderland - Grimoire
  2. Remix title: "Toads in the Suite" Remixer: Mazedude Original Compositions: Ragnarok Canyon, Turbo Tunnel Game: Battletoads System: NES Composer: David Wise Year: 1993 Company: Rare / Tradewest Description: "Well, as many of you know, I draw on all manner of inspiration, sources, and genres. And, oftentimes a remix will emerge in a stylistic homage, or tribute to such an artist. This here is another case of that, this time around honoring Michael Manring. For those of you who aren't familiar, he is an electric bass virtuoso, and a really groovy composer. He does things with solo electric bass way beyond what it's traditionally used for, including fun with chords, harmonics, and oodles of effects. So, this here is a Battletoads remix in that same style, mixed with some jazz fusion and crunchy Mazedude goodness. The title is derived from a conversation I had in my college suite with bass player Chris Kuffner, who introduced me to Manring's music in the first place." --- Mazedude ---------------------- - Ragnarok Canyon - Turbo Tunnel

  4. I'll admit that DnB isn't my most favoritest genre ever, but I've come to appreciate different aspects of it. I think you have a good energy for this, and you're taking it in a cool direction, but there's some stuff holding it back. Firstly, the arrangement on the themes themselves is pretty minimal, and without many changes to them overall, it's becoming pretty repetitive. There are good ideas in there, but you use them, and then autopilot them, rather than add new ideas and take out the old, change it up. I think the crux for me is how looped the percussion is. For a DnB track, I want to (obviously) focus on said drums and bass. I can't say I'm really pulled in by the drums at all. Do more with them! Along with that, the snare sound isn't really doing it for me at all. I'd look for something with a little more snap to it. NO (resubmit)
  5. Source is pretty nice, not something I would have expected from a Spyro game. Never assume, I guess. Right now the arrangement is pretty straightforward for the credits theme, and pretty repetitious, without enough development for our standards. Your submission letter is a little confusing, so I'm not sure if the Valley theme is in there at all, but I'm not hearing it. I'd love to see you expand more on the theme, and add some more of your own flavor to it. The choir sounds are very similar to the original, but aside from that you have a pretty new soundscape here. I'm not sold on the balance; lows sounds too loud and highs not present enough. Not really feeling the kick sound as well, but that might be personal choice more than anything. It's a good start, but I think this has a ways to go. NO (resubmit)
  6. Honestly, Shariq and I were talking about how we've been attacked by Horde maybe 10 times total (3 of which by the same guy in one sitting) since we started in Gorefiend. Mind you we're not 85, but overall it seems pretty calm.
  7. Vinnie pretty much nailed it here. Overall the song is sounding mechanical, which is pretty detracting from the overall sound you're going for. Add to that the length of the arrangement that has some sections that aren't really holding interest, and it's just not working as is. On the good side, you've definitely got a good sense of arranging, and I liked a lot of the ideas you presented here. If you can get some more humanization in this, along with paring down the arrangement you'll definitely be on the right track. NO (resubmit)
  8. Vig pretty much said what I was going to say and more. It's a nice arrangement, but just too straightforward. Hope you keep submitting more! NO (resubmit)
  9. This is pretty cool, I had a lot of fun listening to it. I like how the opening synth is reminiscent of the title screen. Overall it feels like the track has a sort of 'crazy lady' feel, which is a weird but cool image (Ridley as an old crazy lady with 40 cats who is actually a mass murderer or something...yes, I am weird). It's not often that the lower end of a mix is taking things melodically, and I think you worked it pretty well here. I think the low end isn't as clear as it could be, but I felt it was acceptable as is. Nice energy throughout. YES

I also wanted to continue my streak of video game remixes, with the other two being The Legend of Zelda theme and the Song of Storms. I plan to do more video game remixes in the future, and perhaps also release an album of only video game remixes. -----------------------------------------
  11. I love your arrangements, they are so fantastic. To me, doesn't matter what game we are talking about, do what inspires you! Anyways, the level of personalization you add to these tracks really makes listening to them a unique, personal experience everytime. There isn't much to critique here, but to nitpick, some parts are feeling a little mechanical, and overall this could use a healthy dose of rubato in just the right times to add that anticipation of what's next. Lovin' it. YES
  12. Not much to elaborate on here beyond what the gentlemen before me have mentioned. Compression definitely needs to come down, and you might want to ease up on the piercing synths. The arrangement has some good moments, but it needs to be developed more. You've got a start here, but you can do more! NO (resubmit)
  13. It was a glitch with the new patch and not having Cataclysm. I'm still trying the different workarounds they're suggesting and trying to figure out what exactly is up.

  15. Remixer Name: Squint Real Name: Hai Nguyen userid: 32682 Game Arranged: Chrono Trigger for SNES Song Arranged: At the Bottom of the Night Additional Information: Yasunori Mitsuda, original composer. In the Bottom of the Night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTwocdhLpus Theme of Love, "Rosa's Theme": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueCpSVJp7PQ&feature=related Hey guys, first things first - I'm sorry. Yes, I did another Chrono Trigger piece. But wait, wait, I can explain! Before I submitted my first piece ("Gusty Piano in a Garden"), I had already finished "To Far Away Inspirations" (<crossing fingers for acceptance>), was putting the finishing touches on this one, and had started another one that I might submit (from FFVII...again, sorry!). At that time, I had only really been writing this stuff for my own benefit (didn't even consider that they could get onto OCRemix), so I didn't feel the need to try my hand at something uncommon, y'know? Now that this one's done, I figured I might as well send it in and see what you guys think. If it's any consolation, I'm pretty sure there aren't any mixes on the site for this particular track. Also, I wanna say thanks once again to Vinnie, as he once again helped out with the production on this one, which makes three in all. I swore to him that this would be the last of the bunch, since now I can start fresh with recordings and all that, and hopefully get my own software for quality recording. Anyway, to the piece itself. This track is one of the first things I can remember trying to copy when I was a kid, right when I got my first demo version of Finale. Of course, back then, I was just trying to copy it note for note, but yeah, I've always admired how this piece adds so many different parts one by one, and then they come together to culminate into something so sad, but so beautiful at the same time. I thought it would be really cool to try and emulate this with just the piano, since it's such a versatile instrument and can really play as many parts as needed, so long as the composer is creative enough to cram 'em all in there somehow. Of particular inspiration was Zohar's "Concert Paraphrase," where he takes the B Section of "Yearnings of the Wind" and beautifully presents it with two hands, nothing seeming out of place at all. Incredible. I also am not ashamed to admit that I took inspiration from his intro to "Concert Paraphrase" in writing the intro to "Glenn." And now I'm babbling. The piece is definitely more classical this time around. It just came out that way, I guess. And I also sneaked in a portion of the Theme of Love from FFIV (Rosa's Theme), just because it sneaked up on me somehow while I was just plunking out ideas! It fits surprisingly well. So yeah, I hope you all like it. And don't worry, I have plans to start work on a piece for a game that somehow has no representation on OCRemix at all! Hai
  16. Arrangement is closer, but listening to this with fresh (IE a break from hearing this in a while) ears is really to bringing to light the production issues OA mentioned, and I'm hearing a lot (a LOT a lot) of clipping. Still can't write off on it yet.
  17. I really like the attention to detail in this one. There's a ton of little things you've done throughout the mix to really add a lot of flavor. I'd say the mixing suffers at times from being too cluttered, but the balance still manages to stay pretty clear. YES
  18. Listened to this one for a while. I don't think you're breaking new ground on arrangement here, overall it does remain very conservative. However, you've certainly added your own touch, and it's produced very well. You definitely achieve that sense of wonder and exploration, and it's a fun listen. It's close on arrangement, but YES
  19. Gotta be one of the most confusing things I've read from you, Brandon. However, if I'm reading this correctly, the answer is yes.
  20. Remixer name : Bluelighter Real Name : Guillaume SAUMANDE Mail: guillaume.saumande@wanadoo.fr ID forum : 30998 Game & Songs: ff10 Twilight, The Deceased Laugh Interpreter: Guillaume SAUMANDE (piano) Composer: Junya Nakano, Nobuo UEMATSU (only for the first arpeggios) Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoAP9rnS7j8 Hi ! Here my piano version of Twilight from ff10. I really love the original music of Junya NAKANO, atmospheric, and very murky! I wanted to keep the nature very atmospheric from the original. I started by the first arpeggio from “The Deceased Laugh”; and continue by arpeggios with the first harmonies of “Twilight”. After this, I used a rhythm heavy, slow and hesitating; in low and then in high. The arrangement finished by some quick arpeggios, very dissonant. In this piece, there are some reference to movies like Dracula and The Ninth Gate (music by Wojciech Kilar). Don’t look for a melody; it’s only an atmospheric piece with piano Thank’s to consider this mix, and I hope you’ll enjoy!! 22. Contact Information Jayson Litrio magickal7@aol.com reverbnation.com/jaysonlitrio Submission Information Mega Man 2 (NES) My arrangement: "Airman's Piano Bar" Original song: Airman's Theme Comments: Hey guys! It has been WAY too long since I've submitted an arrangement.. and I'm mad at myself! My resolution is to submit way more often, and find the time, in between writing originals, to be a bigger part of this amazing place. I've watched it grow since the start, and I couldn't have done it better -- you guys produced such an amazing website and community -- and there's no reason to submit any where else on the planet. A few hours ago, I got another random email about "Dr. Wily's Wedding", and I just can't believe I still get messages about it all these years later.. I thought I'd 'give back' to all who have shared their stories with me, and had such kind words, by trying another Mega Man 2 arrangement in a similar style. So I sat right down to take a break from what I was working on, and this is what I came up with. Much more "abstract" this time around.. I'm not even sure if I like it myself yet.. LOL. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to sending in an upbeat arrangement next time, for a different game title. - Jayson --------------

  24. Game: Spyro the Dragon Tracks Arranged: Opening Theme Remix Title: The amazing analog funk machine Remixer: Sir_NutS Well, it's been a long time. This is going to be kind of a long writing, so if you get bored, there's a tl:dr and the end . It's been years since my last submission! but what I am submitting now is not really recent. In fact it's several years old, so i don't know how it will fare since I've been so removed from the community that I can't really tell if the bar has been raised again or something. Not that I think this remix is bad, I wouldn't be bothering sending it if I thought it was cool. I decided I will submit the last few remixes I worked on for submission before real life called and said I should spend more time with her than with my hobbies. I don't think I will be working as hard as I used to on my music, but there are still some songs I made back then that I still want to share. SO! about the song: The original spyro soundtrack was made by Stewart Copeland, and that already sets the challenge of doing something of at least the quality of the original song. The original was pretty funky, so I decided to go along that line, but make it more of a groovy-funky-kinda retro... thing. Something centered around just a few motifs, and build up from there. The primary goal with this was to get a really catchy rhythm and go along with that, but never make the song feel like going on autopilot by adding several variations, while also infusing it with more electronic sounds. Maybe some of the old judges remember my love for filters and it shows here in the synths I am constantly tweaking. Oh yeah and it's not any kind of boomtiss. tl:dr: Funky electro stuff. Clap your hands and Enjoy! And here's the link for the song: ---------------------------------------
