I don't think anyone from PA outside of Ben Kuchera and Gabe's comments are defending the game outright. If anything, Gabe is just pointing out that "it is what it is" and that it's never been anything other than that. If anything, playing through Mass Effect and any Bioware game for that matter should make it obvious that these are not non-linear "off the rail" experiences; there are story chokepoints and events that will occur no matter what. You can't NOT decide to go to the Citadel or take down Seran in ME. You can't not choose to chill out at the Cerberus station at the beginning of ME2. This is the kind of game Bioware makes. As I've mentioned in other threads, the only true non-linear games you're ever gonna find outside of D&D are Hack and NetHack, and thank God for that or we'd be playing bland Bethesda sandbox games ad infinitum. If it doesn't suit your fancy, then speak with your wallet. Don't buy more of their games, tell them why, and then leave it at that.

Who said anything about being upset being "unreasonable"? If you don't like the ending and think it ruins the rest of the experience, then fine, hate it all you want. What several of us are getting at here is that it's beyond moronic, immature, and outright insulting to the creative community to "demand" that they either cough up a "better" ending or give some kind of refund in some capacity. Imagine the kind of boring, monochrome media we'd be consuming daily if all entertainment were forced to adhere to the strictest of external(fan or otherwise) demand(moreso than usual). You have a right to be pissed, not a right to tell people how to do their job.

I can't believe this just happened. Seriously, gaming is a creative, artistic industry where people are going to create an experience as per their vision. You as a CONSUMER(and not a stockholder) are entitled to not like said work, but to do something this batshit? I hope Tim Schafer and all these other guys using Kickstarter to fund their game projects know just what they're getting themselves into.

Man... Metal Gear Solid 3 is still one of the greatest games of all time. Still loved it from beginning to end. I've played through MGS3, Subsistence, and now MGS3D. I pretty much feel that while the camera/aiming control is annoying at first without the Circle Pad Pro, the 3DS version of the game is by far my favorite. Being able to walk/shoot while crouching, and walk while shooting are great additions, and the game is just so damned beautiful. It isn't just an upscaling job they did here like the HD Collection; they redid a lot if not all of the textures, and the game is just so much more colorful than before. Add the camo creation(which can get fun), good 3D, and the ability to take MGS3 with you anywhere, and you can't really go wrong. The Vita Collection(which now just includes MGS2 and MGS3) will more than likely contain the 3DS version of Snake Eater(minus the 3D), but if you don't already own a Vita or a 3DS, then you'll be out by at least around $300, so you can't go wrong with MGS: Snake Eater 3D. Now to play through this and RE: Revelations again while I patiently wait for Kid Icarus next week.

A Realm Reborn: Final Fantasy XIV Online
Malaki-LEGEND.sys replied to Malaki-LEGEND.sys's topic in General Discussion
Well, patch 1.21 finally hits today, bringing a new job system, chocobo gear, new dungeons, shittons of new gear, important revamps to cooking, alchemy, and crafting in general, and a bunch of other system updates. For those interested, here are the notes for said patch. I'm pretty excited, as it seems that the game is starting to become more and more ambitious as time goes on. The addition of the job system now seems pretty brilliant. While they're much more defined roles and abilities, they lose a lot of the versatility that you might have while using a standard class. Right now it feels a lot like FFXII: International Zodiac Job System, with the job unlocking of FFT, and the level/skill progression of FFV. -
We're not talking about that, though. Everyone here by now has already reconciled the fact that there's a time frame where devs could pump out more content then offer it online. We're talking about stuff that clearly made it in time to go gold, production, and shipping. To be fair(however unlikely), in the case of SFxT it might be possible that they went gold earlier than anticipated and went straight into DLC creation, and maybe an event occurred which prevented them from going into production on time(shit happens), so someone had the idea that putting all the now-completed DLC on the disc would save everyone future headaches(sound plan), but they can't release it all at once due to (stupid)contractual obligations with Sony. Since this is a pretty internal thing that could deal with workflow and supply processes, then it makes sense that they don't specify further than they have. Or not. Who knows? I don't. Cheat codes.

It all boils down to this in regards to Street Fighter X Tekken. Street Fighter X Tekken has been getting killer reviews across the board save for a few online, interface, and other hiccups. By and large, it's looking to be a pretty great game. The game already comes with 38 characters, which is a bunch o' stuff. Add that to all the modes and infinite replay value, and that's a pretty great value by itself. They're planning to add more characters by the time the Vita version hits? That's cool, and I'm down with it. We live in a wonderful world where now console games can easily be upgraded and patched through DLC. What? The characters are already on the disc? But I was under the impression that these were being worked on still? Uh huh? You say they're already finished and loaded to go, but not only do I have to wait to get access to them, but I have to pay for stuff that's already on my disc? Uhh... The sad part about all of this is that the devs themselves were probably going through serious crunch time to get all that out, but will probably not see any of the DLC profits.
-
The issue is that it's already existing content, and it's on the disc. We're not talking about the latest debacle with ME3's day one DLC. I can't imagine them halting production and shipping lines just to make sure these characters managed to make it into the final retail version. It'd be one thing to get the assets in the disc while the characters themselves are incomplete, and then patch all the necessary code when they are, but all signs are pointing to this not being the case. The other big issue is what you've mentioned: Capcom releasing another "Super" edition. It's true that this way they're avoiding releasing another boxed copy, but they'd might as well since depending on the pricing of these characters you might end up spending just as much. I'm not trying to make them out to be monsters, but I really can't see how they're helping the consumer here.

...OK fine in that scenario it probably wouldn't, although I guess if you're going for that type of playthrough, you're already at that Zen state where you've pretty much got the entire game mastered. Moving(and shooting) while crouching, aiming in third person, as well as having complete control of the camera(like Subsistence) just helps things move a bit faster. Also slightly easier to move around without being spotted. All and all it's just more welcoming than previous editions. The graphics in the 3DS version have also been redone as well; more detailed textures, better lighting, etc. It isn't just an upscaled version like in the MGS Collection. This of course does leave a footprint on the framerate though, as even the final release build(demo was an old e3 build) has a bit of a problem in that department. Being able to take pictures of whatever and have it function as camo with a functional index probably isn't going to redefine how you play, but it's a fun and goofy application of the 3DS camera. Plus, the only other option for playing MGS3 on the go is to spend around $400 on a Vita(because who's seriously not going to grab a 32 gig memory stick with their Vita?).
-
Well this is typical. Well I hope you all enjoy SFxT. I'm not supporting this. Sucks because I felt Capcom did a great thing with RE: Revelations and my hype was pretty up there for SFxT. I might grab the Gold Edition.
-
From what I understand, outside of the GAME CHANGING ability to walk and shoot while crouching(which is GAME CHANGING), you can use the 3DS camera to take pictures and then use color palettes and patterns from said pictures to create new camo with its own index. I predict a lot of phallic camouflage coming from this feature.

Assassin's Creed III: The American Revolution?
Malaki-LEGEND.sys replied to Moomba's topic in General Discussion
Depends on how well the new assassin's character catches on with the masses. If it does, then you can bet Ubisoft is gonna milk it for all it's worth. If not, moving on to Assassin's Cried IV -
Thirded. The time I spent with Black was great not just because there were completely new pokemon, but from what I saw, hardly any of 'em looked like total trainwrecks like from previous entries. It almost seems pretty likely that this won't happen with B&W2, but maybe Pokemon 3DS?
