  1. Don't feel too bad, Hawk. I have to wait for who-knows-how-long just for them to announce the PC version. Yeah, Ono and one of the Capcom USA heads keep saying they won't be considering it right now due to "piracy on the platform", but Hideo Kojima keeps saying he'll never make another Metal Gear, so I can't really trust what game devs say these days. Besides, piracy is a bullshit argument for anything. I also wouldn't be surprised if they're keeping it on the down low since the "arcade" version(which runs on Windows XP) isn't out yet. 3DS release and no PC? Pfft. Like that'll happen.
  2. But that's the point: I wasn't talking about you or anyone else posting in this thread thus far. You(and a few others) erroneously attributed what I said as being against you, when in fact I said most of the internet(and a little bit of evidence here from more than a year ago). I can't give you evidence from here because it's been blasted off into the aether, and if I were to give you evidence from elsewhere, I'd have to quote every message board online that discusses video games. If you feel like you don't belong in the group I mentioned, were excited about the game and was promptly let down, well it sucks that you didn't enjoy it, but then by all means excuse yourself from the "most" category. I was operating under the assumption that Thalzon was checking out other places and reviews other than OCR(which is for the most part the most level-headed online spot I know), and that he should be wary that as always, there's that vocal group that denounces everything everywhere without giving it the time of day. Maybe it was the proximity of my post, but I sure wasn't going after anyone in this thread with that statement, so I apologize if it sounded like that was the case.
  3. Ok I get it now. Let's all collectively play dumb. Nobody was down on Metroid Other M since last year when it was announced. The entirety of the internet was ablaze with nothing but anticipation and excitement until their fragile hopes were crushed by that damned Sakamoto when they played the game. Am I doing this right?
  4. I'm sorry for not realizing that you spoke for everyone else' opinion, Mutericator. You're absolutely right and I apologize. Heaven forbid that there's enough evidence all around the grapevine to show that my point is indeed the case. No. If Mutericator doesn't fall into that category, than nobody else does, and thus my case is bullshit.
  5. That's because it is a huge fuss being made over nothing. I've just finished my second playthrough, and the game is still great(hard mode ho!). Most people who are complaining about the game were against giving the game a chance since its announcement last year, so you can pretty much disregard most of the complaints. Fact is, if you want Ninja Gaiden action in a Metroid setting, then this is your fix.
  6. I wasn't speaking directly to your previous point as much as I was to the idea that people think that Super Metroid actually had some semblance of a plot. Maybe taking out some of the 'you's would've helped.
  7. OK, so if Super Metroid had this "epic" narrative, could you direct me to it? SNES games did have the capacity to tell an amazing story(FFVI and Chrono Trigger for example), but Super Metroid was hardly one of them. Metroid games have always won their fans over by solid gameplay, which they have in droves. However compelling dramas they ain't. Metroid was essentially "Here's a planet with shit on it, go blow said shit up. If you do it fast enough, you get to see a chick in a bikini at the end." The fact that you all were easy to please pre-pubescent larva back then is how anything in the 16-bit era could have a "good story" Next thing you'll be telling me is how Super Mario Bros. 3 is the Schindler's List of 8-bit gaming, or that Mario's constant pursuing of the princess is actually a metaphor for heroine use among the disenfranchised teens of America. (Incidentally I don't understand why everyone shits on Metroid 2) Subjective.
  8. Heaven forbid anyone sticking to their guns and following through with their own creative vision.
  9. Probably because Capcom doesn't own actually own Bayonetta. Anyway to get this thread back on "da rails", I'm optimistic about what might come out of the game, although I have to admit that I'm really sick of developers releasing nothing but CG trailers at these shows which are in no way indicative of actual gameplay. That being said, if I could gleam anything out of the trailer it'd be that the action looks kinda slow, and I also agree that I'm not too fond of "Dante's" new look. Edit - What really should be angry sigh-worthy(or at least confused double take worthy) is Namco and Harada's latest Tekken Tag Tournament 2 announcement. Not gonna rag on it, but I don't really recall hearing any resounding cries to bring this one back from the dead.
  10. Think of it this way: We'll be working out the kinks on the PC side of things and you'll be getting the better game for it. Also, the biggest problem with the haters is that they don't know much about it other than what uninformed sources have been saying.
  11. What people need to understand about the thresholds is that it isn't specifically time-based. The dev team just made an estimate of how much xp an average player might get in a certain time frame(an hour) and set that as a fixed rate. If you don't hit that fixed amount and level slower than what they define as average, you might never make it to 5th or even 4th threshold on a normal xp session. Not only that, but since you'll be switching back and forth between classes, you might never feel the actual effects of fatigue throughout your entire time playing the game. Even assuming that it's a set hour, 8 hours is a long ass time. I can't imagine any(normal) person wanting to do the same thing over and over for that long a period. Edit: Here's a list of more additions being made to the game once it hits
  12. There actually IS a secret(well, "secret") build that they haven't shown. All the beta is is just that: a neutered version that's kinda buggy created for the purpose of stress testing and fixing the kinks involved. Only the devs have access to the actual complete version. They've stated this many times. And FFXI had plenty of shit wrong with it when it was first released in 2002 in Japan. A year later when it's released here, it was better. WoW released sometime in 2004 or 2005, a year goes by and what do you know? Improvements. Square-Enix has also said that they don't really give a shit about grabbing the WoW audience and that they're perfectly happy with the same numbers they had with FFXI. More power to them. Final Fantasy XIV isn't designed to be a WoW-clone. WoW is not the end-all be-all of the MMOverse. You want to play WoW, go play WoW. Geez... You just can't win as a game developer.
  13. Now that Cavia is gone, I wonder if they'll continue to print the game, which makes me wonder if I'll be able to grab a copy on the cheap later on. I AM pretty interested in the game though(yes mostly because of the soundtrack ), and I actually appreciate them sticking with a father looking out for his sick daughter rather than a brother. I don't know how many westerners can relate to the whole brother/sister shtick as well as the former. Also shit hog.
  14. I see what you did there.
  15. Not only that, but I seem to remember certain blips on the map and mini-map in every 2D Metroid that would show you that an item was nearby... Doesn't sound like a compelling argument to me, Ferret. Also an open question: How is "sequence-breaking" fun? "Oh boy! I figured out how to get to the end boss by skipping this entire section and thus missing out all the extra items, gameplay, content and fun I would have experienced otherwise! I get to play the game MY way!" Getting through The Legend of Zelda without the sword or going through Final Fantasy with a team of white mages wasn't fun and/or challenging, people. It was lame and you all know it. You're more than welcome to enjoy it(and more power to you I guess), but that doesn't make it any less dumb. That being said, another story thread that I was kind of confused about was SPOILER the deleter and who he/she was. At first I thought it was James(since you can never actually trust the Steve Buscemi character), but then I got to thinking that it was a projection of MB. Did they ever reveal who it was or was I supposed to figure that on my own? END SPOILER. I might give the game another go later this week. Much fun indeed.
  16. I guess it makes sense then that I love this game so much being that Metroid Fusion is(was) my favorite game in the series. I feel like they've taken Samus Aran all the way up to my favorite female game lead along with Aya Brea and Terra Branford. That being said, I kinda want to go through all the Prime games now(I only played and finished Echos). Pity Nintendo had to actually make their limited edition limited.
  17. So I finally finished the game and now I can actually post and not worry about spoilers. DAMN that was an awesome game in terms of pretty much everything. The narrative itself had me choked up towards the end, and you really gain an appreciation for the baddass that Samus Aran really is. This game was pretty heavy, and I applaud Nintendo and Team Ninja for its accomplishment. Of course that isn't to say that there weren't issues with the story(why don't you have an entire regiment of galactive federation troops on a facility engaged in dangerous bioweapon research for example). A few of the CG scenes, notably the first, had some serious old sci-fi movie cheese going on(but I like the cheese ). I expected Metroid meets Ninja Gaiden with some great background for Samus, and that's exactly what I got. Way to breathe some fresh air into the series, Nintendo. Excellent job.
  18. As Jeff Cannata of Shacknews.com would say, it's more fun than it is good.
  19. Best post of this thread(aside from a few Arek posts) and I totally agree. I bought it earlier today, and while I was a bit "meh" when I started, I went to take a shower to go take care of stuff and all I could think of was playing it again. Funny how I actually like the narrative a lot.
  20. Wind Waker with actual dungeons would have been nice.
  21. Arek just how great is this game? Actually, how do you feel about the third- to first-person switching? Does it feel intuitive enough or is there some getting used to it? Also being that there are only a few buttons on the Wiimote, how is weapon/item/morphball switching done?
  22. I'm just up in your threads trolling. Hip hop's alright.
  23. In This Thread, we treat modern hip hop/rap like they were respectable music genres.
  24. Keep your distance and whenever you see the retard throw out a neutral jumping punch, smack him once it's fully extended. Don't forget to airthrow to punish those retarded teleports if you can. If not, DP right when he moves. Trick is to let him come to you.
  25. "OMG I'M CANCELING MY PREORDERZ!" I'd say welcome to the internet and the wide(retarded) world of videogaming, but you were there for the Hope bashing in the FFXIII thread. So yeah... Anyway, this might be the first Metroid game I really pick up BECAUSE they actually explored the main character, even though the getting attached to a baby Metroid is a bit odd(but totally adorable), and because Team Ninja makes awesome action. It's also something new within an established series, so hurray.
