  1. I'm not arguing that the ads aren't reprehensible or damaging to the industry, however I AM arguing that the gaming audience in general is just as reprehensible, and that's a hard pill that we all have to swallow. Look at youtube video comments, gaming news sites comments and forums, as well as other gaming forums. People can cry all they want about how those aren't indicative of the gaming population as a whole, but then what do we use as a barometer to determine that if that statement is true when there is so much evidence against it?
  2. I'm going to chime in by repeating what I said to a friend over facebook on the issue and the episode, What happened to gaming and EA? Excessively huge budgets required to develop in the current generation and short-term profit mongering by management of said gaming companies that don't even have a real history inside the industry(looking at you, Bobby Kotick). This leads to less risk-taking and more catering to the lowest common denominator of the gaming audience, which incidentally includes most of its audience. It's kind of hypocritical of Sepphire(albeit not intentionally so) to say that the gaming audience doesn't want this sort of experience(or advertising) when all you have to do is turn on your headset while playing whatever FPS is currently in style on XBL to see a lot of the audience for what it is: a bunch of Jason Statham/Vin Diesel-wannabes, 14-year-olds who haven't even started puberty yet, racists, homophobes, etc. There are statistics that show that the average gamer age is 35(or near that age), but what the hell does that tell us about their mental state? There's no doubt that EA's marketing is hardly setting an image for gamers as responsible, well-adjusted, mature individuals and it would be lazy of me to ignore the fact that there are plenty who do fit this profile, but until the majority of the gaming audience lives up to that image, business is business due to the earlier points.
  3. Stop trying to knock them downward. It gives you full meter and they know you want one.
  4. It has hardly anything to do with competitive playing and much more to do with making sure you last more than 25 seconds against your opponent. Bardic's good, but that's just 'cause he has a good handle on advanced techniques and has a solid strategy. He isn't this insurmountable wall. You just need to learn from your mistakes and actually think about what you're doing. Like Bardic said though, the beautiful thing about this game is it's huge level of creativity. If you think you can do a certain combo that might seem unlikely, but have the tools for it, chances are you can actually do it. I've come up with a few interesting mix up techniques for my standard team just by thinking "hmmm... I wonder if I could try this..." Also Just Christ Dark Phoenix with X-Factor is like a goddamn win button. Sentinel ain't so bad, though. This probably has more to do with people thinking they can rush in with Sentinel with arms flailing. No sir, I've fought you enough times to know exactly how to bring you down.
  5. Well they could probably work the anniversary into Ocarina of Time 3DS or potentially Skyward Sword. Of course with the way they handled the Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Collection, I kind of hope they don't.
  6. If you were gonna try to make that practical, you should probably pair her up with a character that can charge their own meter like Felicia or try to tag down with aerial crossover combos.
  7. Maybe now he can finally order something more grown up than milk for a change. Happy Birthday, Link! You do us lefties proud!
  8. X-23 has a nasty OTG which basically means game over for anyone. Also Spencer is a douche. Also also, did you just start playing fighting games last week, Thalzon?
  9. Internet denizens are cynical bastards, that's how it works. All of Shoryuken is nuts about it. Most dangerous things are leaks indeed.
  10. I'm still playing on and off, although for the most part I'm busy playing other things(like MvC3) while waiting for the game to be up to speed. If you want to see my thoughts on the game as is right now, just hit eorzeapedia.com and check out the gendisc forums there. I'm usually in active discussions all the time.
  11. At least we'll have something in common. I'm also(yet again) discovering another big issue I've had with the game, and it probably comes from playing one-on-one fighters exclusively for years: I didn't catch on to team dynamics. After spending more time with my designated team(Felicia, Chris, Zero), I'm starting to get the hang on using assists strategically, as well as getting a hang on the game's specifics such as hit detection, snap backs, advance guards, etc. At this rate I might be able to give MvC2 another shot.
  12. I think the writing was on the wall once Microsoft delegated them to avatar creation stuff...
  13. So I think I've managed to figure out another one of my problems. It isn't so much that I'm a dead weight(although that's part of it) as much as it's a problem with figuring out the general effective range and hitboxes of the game, which is pretty different from Super Street Fighter IV or Blazblue(or whatever). It's going to be pretty interesting to swap back and forth between the different styles of gameplay. It's a great time to be a fighting game fan.
  14. So I've been practicing a bit today since I actually have time(hurray 3 day break before new trimester!). Been working on getting assists and air combos down as well as playing with new characters. I gotta say I'm enjoying Chris and Arthur a lot. Arthur especially seems like the kind of dude that works best by using assists and as an assist himself for different setups.
  15. Man, playing Bardic and Vimk just highlight how friggin' immobile I am. Damned time over! should have been my win!
  16. I just grabbed the game earlier today, but I've run into my usual MvC problem: I have problems actually moving around/not being dead weight, and button mashing. My execution is just fine, I just can't get around the damned stage. Anyone know what I'm talking about and can offer some ideas?
  17. I'm frothing with rage at all of you who could grab the game today... I'm gonna trade in a few games over at Gamestop and grab the game tomorrow. Fuck waiting for the 26th. Can't wait to get some sessions in with you people. Maybe this time we can maintain some consistency in our play sessions.
  18. Hey guys... Looks like Capcom is up to their old shenanigans again.
  19. I'm pretty much going to be experimenting with the Capcom side of the roster for like the first month or so. I wanna give Spencer, Zero, and probably Arthur a try. I'm not a huge Marvel fan, but maybe I'll try out X-23, Wolverine, or Iron Man.
  20. So after all is said and done... I'm still hyped as fuck for this game. Can't wait to throw down with my Felicia, Joe, and Ami team.
  21. ...And it made me smile.
  22. That was another worry of mine. The art style along with all the flashy effects and speed in MvC2 was pretty dizzying to me. Too bad that seems to be the case this time as well.
  23. What a surprise. 10 years in the making and they thought this was a good idea.
  24. Reading that article has given me the thought that there are two sets of people: those that are very much into not just gaming, but the industry as a whole and what makes games tick, and those who are pretty much just interested in the final product and fuck all else. I make the second sound kind of bad, but it isn't that dire a position to take. If you're a member of the first group(like me), then this is excellent news(save for Neversoft). If you're part of the latter, then it probably sucks(but if the market is so saturated then probably not). To me, Guitar Hero 2 is probably my favorite out of the whole "guitar game" genre. While its feature set has been expanded in later versions, it had the perfect mix of a great game and great music. And to finish this post: Looks like Guitar Hero *puts on sunglasses* Ended on a low note... YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH
  25. Also Ok that's one less bad joke to worry about.
