A Realm Reborn: Final Fantasy XIV Online
Malaki-LEGEND.sys replied to Malaki-LEGEND.sys's topic in General Discussion
If there's a 360 version in the works, I doubt it'll be out the gate at the same time as the others... Looks like I'll be building my new PC sooner. Also anyone find any new details? -

Funny you should mention that FFXIII and the rest of Fabula Nova Crysalis hasn't even come out yet, but we're already seeing FFXIV being pushed for the same year Coop, being that Square-Enix is actually quite pissed off at the development teams for taking this long to push those 3 games out the gate. In terms of paying monthly for a game, I actually find that I save on entertainment this way in that I'm not spending upwards of 40 bucks a pop on a new game since I'm in a persistent world with a shitload of other players and I(ideally) enjoy said experience. I also actually enjoy giving companies money for producing things that I enjoy, and even I doubt that everyone needs to pay 12.95 a month to keep the game running nice and smooth(I think that's just a price they chose based on other MMOs like Everquest), I don't mind paying it. Maybe I'm a masochist that way. Those are my suspect justifications to paying for an MMO I enjoy. Ideally they'd release trial editions so people can get a good taste of what the game has to offer for those still on the fence. -

Well whether we find WoW to be entertaining or not isn't much of an issue, as it has around 10 million subscribers compared to FFXI's paltry 500 thousand. Square-Enix and the dev team have taken notice, and I'm sure they'll be taking a few ideas from it. This whole armory system for example sounds a lot like a skill tree system a la Diablo/WoW and the guilds sound like their way of incorporating instances into the game. I'm sure they'll just retool and bring a few innovations to the ideas that'll make 'em seem pretty fresh and Final Fantasy-esque(I.E. better than WoW) and good times will be had for all. -
Yeah it's finally over. Whether or not the series is still worth watching is yet to be seen though. EE had a stupid ending after all.

Oh I never said this was a bad thing. I'm excited as hell to see this game in action. Can't come out soon enough... -
Today I am going to buy a new console.

From what you're saying in terms of games you enjoy AD, I'd say that your best bet is with the 360. I'd say the biggest pros for the PS3 right now would be the Bluray player(if you like to watch a lot of HD movies and own physical copies), as well as the fact that if you ever feel the inkling to try out online play, PSN is free. However, the first point is almost irrelevant due to the fact Xbox Live Silver is free and you can rent HD movies on Xbox Live(right now at 720p soon at 1080p) and download 'em relatively fast with a decent net connection. This assuming you're into digital content however. Of course you could ALSO do this on PSN, and I actually prefer the PSN Store myself from using it on my PSP. I'd rather pay with real money than points. If you're looking for Western RPGs, you can't go wrong with either console, although like it was mentioned before, PS3 usually gets the shaft on DLC. If you want some Japanese made stuff, then you're probably better off getting a DS or a PSP at this point. Your choice pretty much depends on 3 things: Games you want, media you want, and price you want to pay. -

I could be wrong but judging by how fast they're putting info out, it seems to me that they're really pushing for that 2010 release. I don't think that this is gonna be a WoW killer by a long shot, but I DO think that this game has the potential to coexist alongside it with a respectable player base if it's as accessible as they're saying it will be. Judging just by those CG models, I'd have to say that I prefer FFXI's characters for now. So far, this is looking like a better realized, more interesting and more accessible Final Fantasy XI in HD. -

Sorry to necromance the thread back into existence, but I thought it pertinent to mention that na.finalfantasyxiv.com has some new information on the game as well as a 1up article with more gameplay details. -
Sounds like you just need to get your priorities in order.

So... Yeah... Still going on. I just lost another 24 minutes of my life.

Playing a game for so long you start to see it IRL...

I think Burnout Paradise is having a negative effect on my driving... Anyway, a recent(as in a week ago) episode of this is me playing through Romancing SaGa so much that whenever I wasn't really paying attention to my surroundings, I'd start to see battle menus everywhere. -
It just has to do with your associating that specific feeling or time with a memory of some good ol' gaming.

As an idea for reading Endless Eight might be cool, but you can read through the entire thing in a night. In a weekly 30 minute show, this is not fun nor a good idea to keep an audience attached. At all.

I'd love to track down an N64, SNES and NES on ebay, but lack the funds currently and I'm afraid of the NES spontaneously exploding.

To me, achievement points can be a good way to add replay value to an already great game. I've played through all my games once or twice already, and trying to get that one crazy thing makes me go back for a third time which then gets me thinking "wow, what a great game." They're not necessary, but I think they add fun. I think the key is to really make it something challenging.
-
Then don't sell your shit. I still haven't sold off FFVIII and I get the urge to play that at least once a year.
-
I find that this happens to me more often than not. Wanting to play a specific game at a specific time. Usually I want to play Eternal Sonata around 7 PM and a fighter before or after that...

Here's to hoping that Kyon finally figures out that there isn't some kind of space time vortex outside that restaurant and actually follows Haruhi out this time.

This. If there's one reason I'm glad the Wii exists(and to an extent the DS) it's because of this right here. The Wii and DS both prove that you don't have to break bank in order to have a great gaming experience. It'd be great if other developers and publishers realized this with the other consoles so that the video game industry doesn't fall flat on it's own feet.

Except for the part where A-LAWS kills civilians indiscriminately with excessive force.
-
Off topic but since you just reminded me, have we ever had a game genre thread? I'm pretty sure like a year ago we had a 2D fighters thread or something. We need to bring that shit back.

You mean those "choose your own adventure" books? I got a few for free when i was a kid just 'cause the lady at the counter(or girl) thought I was adorable. Hurray free stuff!

I still remember when we got the NES players guide with our renewed subscription to Nintendo Power in '92. I remember getting the 50th issue with Mickey's Magical Quest and that contest for designing robot masters for the next Mega Man game, which was VI at that point. I didn't have a Nintendo Power Subscription again until '98 I think(last issue I ever owned was the issue with Castlevania on the cover... January '99 I think). Back then, they WERE a valuable source of info. Hell, I didn't even have the ability to look up my first FAQ until FFVIII in late '99. Point is, I agree that the internet has really changed the dynamic of things. Even up to the N64 days, it was all about mastery and word of mouth. Now we're pretty much on the verge of games that play themselves.

What bugged me most about Destiny was the arbitrary nature of everything. Stuff happened because the writers needed something to happen, but there wasn't any real build up or anything to most of what was going on. What's worse is how they treated most of the main characters from the first series.
