  1. I agree that it has a very pre-Legends feel to it, but for some reason(all the wolves), I can't help but think that it might take place during or before Cornell's period. Of course that wouldn't make sense being that IGA retconned the N64 games, but the game IS being developed by a European team with Kojima acting as oversight.
  2. I don't know if we'll see that fast of an adoption of Natal functionality into core gaming just yet. Right now I see a lot of simple menu interface and "casual" stuff coming out of the gate, although there could be simple things like being able to toss a grenade in Halo with your hand motion or using military signs to coordinate with team members in Call of Duty(both examples not mine). They've already had the press use it in Burnout Paradise at e3, and for the most part everyone thought that it was a solid idea.
  3. Calling it now. Ozzy Osbourne as Death.
  4. Or you know, you could all just wait 'til the inevitable release of the entire collection of chapters down the road some time. Just sayin'.
  5. Waiting for all episodes and rumored(probably not happening) 360 port. Glad to hear that you all like it, though. I was worried that the episodic nature might take away from the "epic" feel of the original. Seems not. So how exactly does the battle system work? Is it just a rehash of the FFIV ATB system with similar abilities or did they play around with it at all?
  6. So they've mentioned that they've come up with new ways for people to play, develop their character, as well as things they've learned from other MMOs and FFXI. My LS buddies and I came up with the following: It might be possible if they add some kind of public quest system like Warhammer in that people could complete area specific quests with other people for certain rewards. a distinction with this would be that the players would have to actively join an alliance with other players in order for all of them to collect said rewards. Storyline was a big focus in FFXI, although it was a pain to get through due to all the grinding of levels required to be able to survive. Being they're coming up with new ways to develop your character, it's possible that they'll put a greater emphasis on story, while having your characters level upon completion of important storyline quests. In terms of actual character development, it's possible that there could be some kind of point allocation system akin to FFXII in which you could basically custom tailor your class to be whatever the hell you'd want it to be or something. This is all just speculation, but hey it's always fun to dream.
  7. They're the bloody murlocs of the Castlevania universe.
  8. Yasunori Mitsuda scoring this game would be a wet dream. Hitoshi Sakamoto would also be amazing.
  9. Wow... Now THAT'S impressive/exciting. I feel like his style has matured a lot since Lost Odyssey and this will just give FFXIV that much a better pedigree. I still love that logo too.
  10. From what I'm understanding and reading, Left 4 Dead 2 looks like it'll be the definitive experience that they probably wanted to create originally. Vastly enhanced AI director that they say couldn't have been patched into the original, more of an emphasis on melee combat with new weapons like the fire ax and the chainsaw(even more interesting that these weapons can be knocked out of your hand by attacking zombies), zombies with more dynamic motions based on what kind they are and how much damage they've taken(I see so many Monty Python jokes in the near future), etc. A friend of mine tells me that the engine is a modified TF2 engine, which is why the characters have that sort of look, and I don't know if I like that just yet since I'm a fan of the gritty visual style and the techniques used in the original. Time will tell I guess.
  11. I'd need more details to see what separates this from a Devil May Cry/God of War clone, but I'm still excited. Patrick fucking Stewart!!!
  12. I concur with this statement. I am massively stoked for this. First Team Ninja developing Metroid and now Kojima (co)developing Castlevania? Madness? You bet, but the best kind there is.
  13. Yeah, the same guy is involved, and most of the vocal cast for MI3 will be reprising their roles in the remake of MI. Support this game so I can has my MI2 Special Edition.
  14. Used to be on Odin as well. Where ma Garuda peoples at?
  15. I wouldn't say it's a dick move at all on Valve's part, but it does seem a little off for them given their track record.
  16. Anyone else remember those Disney movies they turned into series that kind of sucked? Yeah... I agree with Evilhead and I'll take it further. I'd say that for most of the Lucas Arts point and click adventure games, a vivid and interesting visual style was very key to the overall experience of the game. This thing looks pretty bad. It has the old MI team, so that might save it, but otherwise yeah... Totally grabbing The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition though.
  17. This is a stupid comment, and you need to stop being such a damned fool about this stuff. It's not about free content and being "ungrateful", it's just as simple as: Native Jovian: "Hmmm... Valve supported the hell out of TF2 with loads of free stuff which I probably would have paid for, which is awesome. Maybe I should buy Left 4 Dead as well. After all, this IS a company that's well-known for their post-release product support!" *A few months pass and not even as much as a bone tossed other than maps that probably should have been there to begin with and a "survival" mode that isn't exactly all that jazz, but it's all free, so no harm no foul.* Native Jovian: "Hmmm, it seems that Valve isn't doing what they're usually known for, such as releasing an SDK which would allow me to create my own maps/scenarios with other intrepid modders. In fact in all honesty, this new mode kind of blows. And they're still supporting the hell out of that other game. Hmmm? What's this? They're coming out with a sequel already? While my interest is indeed piqued by a new version of this game, I can't help but feel a bit miffed at the fact that my expectations of great post-release support were dashed. Sad. I think I'll withhold purchase of this new title for the time being given my experience with the previous one." If Valve doesn't wanna support L4D anymore and instead move on to L4D2(and to the best of my knowledge they haven't said this at all), that's fine. But you can't automatically think that people aren't going to be a LITTLE disappointed if that were the case given Valve's history of great post release content. If this mattered to me at all, I'd be just as pissed as well. There is nothing unreasonable about Native Jovian or anyone else being miffed.
  18. So the Square-Enix Final Fantasy XIV Q&A session just ended, and there are a couple of points: 1) The game is being developed on PS3 as well as PC with other hardware(Microsoft) being considered. This pretty much translates into "We're releasing it on the PS3, PC and 360, but Sony paid us a lot of money not to mention the last part." 2) The game is going to be set totally apart from Final Fantasy XI, and there will be no sort of player transfer of any kind. Final Fantasy XI is still going to have content delivered to it for at least another year. 3) The trailer had pre-rendered footage as well as in-engine footage. The "galka" fighting those weird jellyfish things on the ship with other characters was in-game engine footage. 4) They're going to "look at various play styles such as partying, soloing, playing for 40 minutes or playing all day, etc." and make sure to have content suitable for all of them. 5) It's slated for a worldwide, simultaneous release in 2010. There will be a beta in the coming months.
  19. I think that in general the Nintendo press conference was ass, but their offerings to the core at e3 were pretty good. I never got to play Mario Galaxy, but if Galaxy 2 is some sort of definitive version like Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES was, then color me excited. Metroid Other M seems to be pretty exciting as well along with the Metroid Anthology for the Wii, and now a new Zelda Wii game? Hmm... Things are looking good.
  20. I'm sure the storytelling will be top notch as they've always managed to integrate it with compelling gameplay that not many developers have been able to do to the same degree. I'm calling it now. This will be a prequel to Ico and a sequel to Shadow of The Colossus that tells the story of Xander(or whatever his name is) while he was growing up in the unknown land. If you own a PS3, this is definitely a game to own. In fact one thing I've appreciated about the Sony system is the fact that these quirky, imaginative games are all over it. Really excited to see more.
  21. I don't think we'll ever move away from controllers in traditional video games. We're not gonna see Street Fighter/Tekken/Soul Calibur without fight sticks. That shit would get tiring/impossible, although I can imagine how a fighting game like that might motivate someone to keep their current training up. I can imagine companies like Bethesda and Bioware using this tech effectively in their RPGs. Imagine being flip through your magic menus at lightning speed, then making a certain hand gesture to fire off the spell at an enemy, and then swinging your sword/mace/lance or firing off your bow by just using hand movements. We wouldn't need any AI like what they were goofing around with Milo, but imagine if you could engage in speech with NPCs in Oblivion by actually talking to them, and based on your voice/fame, they would respond in a meaningful way to what you said. One thing the Wii doesn't have is all the media functionality that the 360/PS3 has, so using this new sensor for all the dashboard features like flipping through and selecting things would be a very valid and convenient use. Of course I'm talking about pie in the sky stuff, although I don't think any of this is impossible and I'm sure plenty of developers have thought of this. The only problem I do foresee is the workload. The possibilities for this are endless.
  22. If you look at the artwork on the main site, you'll see that it resembles the aesthetic they had on the Rapture concept video a few years back. It would be interesting if they're positioning this as a sort of "reboot" to the FFXI world. So damned excited about the Square-Enix press conference later today.
  23. This is the problem I have. I want to be really excited, but I'm still rather dumbfounded by it all. At first I thought it was Jack Trenton confusing FFVersusXIII with FFXIV like they goofed Valkyria Chronicles as a PSP release last year. Well we'll have to wait until SE's press conference tomorrow to see if they give any details about it at all.
  24. Myself and a bunch of friends are avid FFXI players, and those of us that know about this thus far are pretty stoked/weirded out by the sudden WTF announcement. It looks like a high res version of FFXI itself as it even has the same races I believe(or at least races that look like 'em) which could be a good or bad thing. Hopefully they'll take the stuff they learned in FFXI and add in some things from other successful MMOs and make it sweet.
  25. Update(Jan 13, 2015): Well folks, Final Fantasy XIV 2.0(A Realm Reborn) has been going on strong since its release back around August of 2013 with a sub base of around 2.5 million users. While it's certainly no WoW-Killer(Yet), it just goes to show that there's a place for subscription-based MMOs as long as the quality of the game is above and beyond excellent. To a lot of people, this has certainly been the case! Up until now, there have been 4 major patch series that have introduced all types of new content from new dungeons, to new 24-Man raids with the Crystal Tower story arc and hardcore raids such as the Binding Coil of Bahamut and new class/job combo of rogue/Ninja! They've introduced two types of PvP: Wolves' Den and Frontlines, with the latter being a tremendous good time. They've also added ancillary stuff such as gardening, FC and personal housing, chocobo dying, hunts, and a HUGE amount of story-focused content such as the Misadventures of Inspector Hildebrand. Within One week, we will finally reach the conclusion of the 2.0 storyline before a new arc is introduced early this summer with 3.0, with patch 2.5: Before The Fall. 2.5 Before The Fall Trailer 2.5 will eventually conclude with a lead in to the game's first Expansion, Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward. Here's the promotional site Among many things coming are 3 new jobs: Dark Knight, Astrologian, and Machinist, new primals such as Bismark, and two new beast tribes. More excitingly will be the addition of flying mounts and airships, as well as a new playable Dragonian demi-human race known as the Au'Ra. All of these things and more are in the pipeline for the years to come, and it doesn't look like it'll be slowing down anytime soon. If anyone's on Hyperion, hit me up! My character is Ariadne Marduk. Here's my Lodestone profile. If anyone is playing on other servers and wants to keep track of other OCR members playing on their server, just post your character name and server and I'll add 'em to a list here on the front page! Happy gaming, folks.
