It does, just not reliably. I saw one in... The Parish, actually. They're usually off the beaten path in addition to being just plain rare.

Ah, the point of impact thing makes sense. I've been a scrub and been playing on Normal with my friends, and I've been generally sticking with Pistols because everyone else I play with goes melee. We're working our way up to Advanced, but it's slow going. The game's really kicked up in difficulty compared to the original. I consider this a good thing. But god yes, I love the new guns. My favorite's the AK. Lose accuracy, but the thing has so much stopping power against most regular enemies. It's fantastic.

Very late to the party, but I finally have the game. And I love it to pieces. Love the new weapon choices a lot. And I'm surprised the Nightstick is that effective. ...Mostly because I have a love/hate relationship with the Melee weapons. I generally prefer using dual pistols, but most of my friends like to go with melee, and then they're stupid and run right in the goddamn line of fire.

OCR01966 - Mega Man ZX "Flames of Darkness"
Triad Orion replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I'm going to echo a common sentiment: This piece is not a standout work. But with that out of the way, I'm going to also restate the fact that this is a solid, well-put-together mix of good quality and composition, especially as an OCR debut mix. There's nothing overtly wrong with the piece, which is awesome. I might've gone with a different way to open the song, but that's matter of personal preference rather than an objective issue. It doesn't take many risks in terms of arrangement, but that's okay. All of that said, this work tells me you have great potential, and you mixed a great song from a game I really enjoy. From a personal standpoint, I really liked this piece. It's fun. Honestly, I'm excited to see what you'll be able to pull off in the future, especially if you continue to give a good treatment to the ZX soundtrack! -
Actually, I remember playing this game a lot as a kid. And really, I think this soundtrack does really have a lot of potential for remixing. And it was still pretty badass for a Game Gear's limited sound capabilities.

It's hard to quit buying them considering many of them are at the very least, solid.

Diablo 2 1.13 Patch possibly as soon as next week! Join us!
Triad Orion replied to Tensei's topic in General Discussion
Wow, normally I don't like to complain about a patch to an old game, but for something that was built up as a sweeping change patch really looks disappointing in patch notes. There's a couple of nice changes in there, but really? I was figuring this would be a full on revision of abilities, similar to 1.1. Guess I was wrong there. Well, whatever. Still probably won't be picking up DII again and I'll just wait for DIII. -
Honestly, the lack of Charge Shot and Sliding kind of sucks for me. I love Mega Man 2 and all, but Charging added a little strategic element and honestly made killing bosses more entertaining. And Sliding just made for a better experience. Perhaps I'm thinking of it as more of a crutch, but it was nice to have a panic button to get out of the way. ...Well, considering Proto Man's going to have those abilities in 10, I'll probably be playing as him more anyway. Always liked Proto Man more anyway, as anyone who's seen my Steam picture could probably tell.

Do you prefer a controller, or a mouse for FPS games?
Triad Orion replied to A Random Tiger's topic in General Discussion
Mouse and a keyboard. I'm not great at most FPSes to begin with and using a controller just makes me stumble around like a bloody idiot in multiplayer. Give me a mouse and I do a lot better. -
Late to the party, but damn, this is awesome news. 10 years of incredible music, talent, and the people who make up the community. This site's been nothing short of a godsend as a gamer who loves and appreciates the soundtracks in his hobby. And to have a community as awesome as the one here? Nothing short of astounding. And I want to send a big thanks to all the ReMixers out there who do this out of pure love for their craft and the sources that inspired them. And a huge thanks to David Lloyd for making all of this happen and dedicating so much of his free time and effort into keeping this place going. In short, thanks to everyone who makes this place what it is! Happy Tenth, OCR! May there be countless more years of music and community!

I find myself echoing Level 99 about this, but for some reason the song feels a little more hollow than it should. I think it's largely because the original source tune is kind of empty and a little on the short side. Part of it might just be my bias that I don't really like the source tune that much too. I think what would've really helped this mix is if you went off the beaten path and expanded the depth of the song more. The source tune has some good ideas, but I never really liked its execution. I think if you guys had expanded it some you would've had a real winner. Now, my negativity here is purely on the arrangement level. The execution was done well, so you have nothing to worry about there. You really nailed the autumn mood too, which is awesome. Overall, I'd say this is a pretty good mix, given my predisposition to not caring for the original track.

OCR01937 - Mega Man 3 "Ravaging Reptile"
Triad Orion replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Fun, funky, and really just true to the original. Love the chiptune-retro route you went with here. Normally the sound effects from the game being added in end up being obtrusive, but you blended them here very well so it's more amusing rather than annoying. Which is good. I enjoyed this piece quite a bit. Thanks for making it! -
OCR01943 - Final Fantasy VI "Behind Enemy Lines"
Triad Orion replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Wow. You blew me away with this one. Beautiful, rich sounds covering two awesome tracks seamlessly. The segue into the Serpent Trench is awesome. This is a top quality remix, and I'm disappointed in myself for not getting here sooner. Keep up the great work! -
OCR01945 - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 "Mystic Chemicals"
Triad Orion replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Very cool mix. Love the feel, and I'm a fan of classic rock as a genre myself. The guitar work is rockin', and a lot of fun. Though the theme from Mystic Cave tends to be faster, the more deliberate rendition is a fun contrast. Great work on this. Looking forward to seeing more from you down the line! -
Infinity Ward and Activision crap on PC gamers
Triad Orion replied to JoeFu's topic in General Discussion
At the rate this is going? A week? XD Though seriously, that will probably be harder and take longer. We'll see. -
This. Just this. I like Left 4 Dead a lot, but I typically only play Campaign Mode co-op with friends. To me, this is where I have the most fun. My biggest complaint about the original was that unless you were playing on Expert, the game was fairly easy and pretty predictable. That said, I'm psyched about L4D2's new Special Infected and Realism Mode to make the game a greater challenge for even seasoned Campaign players. And even though I didn't much care for Versus in the original, I'll probably be willing to give it another go in L4D2. I think I just found playing Infected too frustrating in the first game. Unless you played it enough to know every in-and-out of every map, your strategies in many cases were limited. I think L4D2 will do a lot for opening up the Infected game and allow some more cunning plans and devious traps.

Do you play as a male or female in a game, given a choice?
Triad Orion replied to OverCoat's topic in General Discussion
I usually will play as male characters, in both WoW and other games. I had a couple of female characters before too, but really the decision isn't one I care about. I'm just as likely to play a game with a static protagonist that's female as I am one with a male protagonist if the game interests me. -
Win. One thing I notice Valve forgot to put into L4D2's demo. You know, that lovely little feature that has the user's preferred difficulty level override a server preset. Imagine my surprise when me and three friends think we're playing on Advanced and when one of them shoots me by accident I lose 2/3rds of my health. Turns out the server overrode me and had it set on Expert as a default. What the hell. Really, a minor annoyance for an otherwise outstanding demo, but it struck me as kind of weird that they forgot to implement that when it was one of the first things they patched in the original.
-
So, I got a chance to play the demo last night for the first time, and I walked away very impressed. It's a clear improvement over the original in damn near every way. The new specials are devious little bastards, and the Spitter is nothing short of nightmare fuel if you're caught unaware. I like the riot cop Infected too. The new designs on some of them look cool too. I like the Hunters with their hoodies and no sleeves. That made me laugh.
-
I remember reading that custom made maps for L4D would be compatible with L4D2. It probably wouldn't be much of a stretch to convert the current five campaigns into L4D2. I wouldn't be surprised if Valve actually did that at some point. ...Oh god, imagine the No Mercy Sewers with Spitters involved. And honestly, if Valve doesn't do it, someone will. That's how I see it.

"Rusted iron crowbar" might be what you're looking for, JC. XD

Microsoft partners with Family Guy to then dump them...
Triad Orion replied to Hy Bound's topic in General Discussion
And this is why the OCR forums are one of the few I actually frequent. -
Interesting. I take it Realism mode isn't active for the Demo, then?
-
The positive reviews for the demo are good news to me. I haven't pre-ordered it (damn lack of cash) but I've been wanting to know how it handles. Sounds like it's been really good. You've mentioned the AI for the specials is improved, but have the tweaks to the Director proper been noticeable too?
-
So. Very. Awesome. Looks very cool. Looking forward to it!
