  1. I love pistol squats! how much weight did you use? Kettlebells are best I think, since they are easy to hold and keep balance
  2. There are some mixing issues that need to be resolved overall, and I think sidechaining the big drums would be a good start, so they still feel punchy, but have the backing foundation they need. I wasn't a fan of the fakey string lead, it was pretty exposed and the sequencing had some care put into it, but the sample is just not cutting it. Solo string instruments are really really hard to get sounding good sequenced. I think my best suggestion here is to use a different instrument. Arrangementwise I liked the addition of the powerful drums, but I think making the patterns less repetitive overall would improve things. There is some good stuff going on, but it needs more polish. I'd like to hear a resub. No, please resubmit
  3. The rhodes and drum sounds are great, but that beat sounds super stilted and not grooving at all. I think it just needs some accents and a little bit more solid subdivision. The triplet hihat and the upbeat are not clicking, and a lot of the rhythms feel loose, like the occasional snaps that feel behind the beat. I really enjoy the arrangement, and the little jingle cameos are great, but the beat needs to be a lot tighter. I'd love to hear a resubmission of this. No, please resubmit
  4. A former college roommate introduced me to the site initially in 2004, and I grabbed all the Castlevania and Mega Man remixes, as well as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy. January of 2006 I decided to join the site itself and learn how to make music!
  5. I am comfortable cosigning pretty much everything Larry has said here; he textures are sparse, and the beat is a bit too loud compared to how small sounding the low end is. There was some personalization, but im not really sure how I feel about how it ends up harmonically; there was some dissonance that I don't feel really resolved that well. i think this does show promise though, and that it's a prime candidate for the WIP forums; get some additional feedback and polish it up! No, please resubmit
  6. I know how that feels; in Florida this weekend I was only getting about half my daily calories, and over 4 days, that's basically 2 days of not eating. My workout yesterday was embarrassingly bad. Just gotta recover and get back on track. No use in going on tilt, you gotta save those occasions for when you are playing League of Legends; at least that is what I do. Hack squats are something i've been wanting to try myself, I think i'll give it a shot too today. We shall prevail!
  7. It starts out as a pretty solid rendition of the theme, but it gradually gets more and more original sounding to me, just riffing off the chord progression. Production is stellar and the soundscape is massive without sounding barren; great sounds chosen, and expertly handled. I'll come back to this one, but I am currently leaning No based on the lack of dominant source. Other joojes, help me out! No
  8. about 11% here as well, and i generally bulk around 10-12%, and once i hit 180lb, i'll cut back down to about 8%. I'm currently at about 10.5%
  9. Nice combination of the source, though you skipped on the best part of the ending theme, which is the re-done menu song. Ah well, maybe i'll just remix that. Anyways, pretty good collab here, the sources are well integrated, and the production is solid. It does start to feel a bit repetitive overall, and the sonic palate doesn't change a lot. The leads switched around a bit, which kept the interest up enough. SOmething to be mindful of in future submissions. Overall the groove was pretty solid, some of the sections felt too samey, and the production was above the bar. I am ok giving this a Yes
  10. Nice and clean recording, but you guys aren't heavy enough. 8 string guitars are for children and the elderly, and real men have at least 20 string guitars, or at least having the entire band play bass. Your additional droptuning isn't fooling anyone! Seriously though, the track sounds great, and the arrangement is super personalized. There was a good mix of original material with source, and the mixed meter stuff sounded intelligent and well integrated. The keyboards were very tasteful. and while there were a lot of original-sounding interludes, there was a good deal of expanded-upon source. Nice work gentlemen, A++ would groove again! Yes
  11. This is a pretty sweet mix, with a lot of great arrangement work and some great drum programming. The sources are meshed pretty well together, and the arrangement is expansive and personalized. Downsides to this that the choir sample is weak and lo-fi with a slow attack, and that some of the sections get pretty muddy. Mixing could be improved in some sections where the leads are way buried under other elements of the song. The ending also cuts off strangely and isn't really working for me. It's close for me, but I think some additional polish is doable for this. I'd love to hear a revision. No, please resubmit
  12. I agree the mix feels like it goes a little long, but overall it's pretty nice. The textures are nice, and I like the new bass part. Some sections were a little overly crowded, which is a bit of a side effect of recording everything live, and the volume is a bit pushed for being such a chill song. Overall I really enjoy it, and there is a lot of expansion on the theme. Yes
  13. Pretty solid work here, it's got the Gario10bit style in full effect, with some powerful momentum and some cool transitions and breakdowns. I'm really feeling those hardpanned arp synths that open and close out the track as well, they are a big part of the frantic energy this song has. I'd have loved a halftime section, but there were some breaks in the action to give a sense of balance to the composition, and some larger builds wuld have made it perfect. Overall pretty damn sweet. Yes
  14. I think the song develops pretty nicely for the first part, but I was hoping for an epic and massive build before the song really blew open. There was a decent mini-build, but I want mooore. The sound scape fit really well, and the panning was solid. Thematically this felt like a pretty solid mid-late 90's technometal track, which is pretty cool and authentic for the game's soundtrack. I definitely approve the use of a second source, because all of the Harley Quinn all of the time would be a bit excessive. Some good arrangement ideas throughout. Ending wasn't solid, but otherwise it had some pretty good flair. I think a little less repetition in the beat for the first half would improve the track overall, but it skims the OCR arrangement bar for me. Yes
  15. The guitar sounds fine to me throughout, I'm not sure what Larry is hearing specifically, but I would not have known it was a sample and not performed. Tone is fine too; as a guitar player, that sound is appealing to me. Arrangement is good, production could be cleaned slightly but is above the bar, I think. The ending is a bit abrupt, but it's minor enough of an issue that it doesn't affect my vote at all. Expansion and expression are really nice here and the breakdown sounds great. Yes
  16. The beat felt a little repetitive to me, but the synth work was pretty solid, with a lot of cool bits and character to the different parts. I really liked the breakdown, where the detail and bass synth were allowed to shine a bit more. There is definitely... enough source in here, as that riff is very present, and almost too much so. The variation on the track was well-handled and the breaks from the insistent main riff were very welcome. Pretty good stuff, love the sounds used for this. Yes
  17. I gotta triplicate this sentiment, the source is present in some spots, but I am not hearing it as dominant enough throughout to really pass the arrangement criteria of OCR. The track is really cool and well done, but I think the source is a little too loose. I really enjoyed the shifting energy and the beats were hot, so please don't think that we don;t dig the track; it just needs more dominant and prominent source use. No
  18. This is pretty fun and funky, but Deia is right that it's not perfectly gelling as far as sounds go; There is definitely some EQ that should happen in the bass, and some stronger panning and revers to glue the elements together. I think some of the breakdowns work well, but some just seem to be somewhat weak bridges to a new section. I think having a few transitions where it's smoother and more seamless would improve the overall flow of the track. I recommend hitting up the workshop forum and getting some additional pointers on the production aspects of this, and then let's hear an update! No, please resubmit
  19. I agree the main issues here are production, a lot of the elements sound like they were recorded in different rooms, so while some are really wet with reverb, some are super dry and up front. It is making it hard to piece together the already difficult source. I also feel that the running time was a bit on the short side. The source itself isn't super long, but 2 minutes and change isn't really giving me enough time to really get a feel for expansion of the theme. No, please resubmit
  20. On the arrangement side, I see where they are coming from, with a lot of very plain textures and parts that are pretty polite in taking turns; there is usually only 1 thing going on at once, with minimal harmony or intertwining parts; while that won't sink this completely, combined with the production issues, it doesn't quite reach the bar. My suggestion on the production are to EQ the rhythm guitars a bit so they have more bite and less mud, bring the drums down a few db, and shape the bass a little as well. It's a lot of seemingly small tweaks that will multiply to make this way more compelling. Your guitar skills are definitely there, and the solo was shredding, if buried. This has some solid promise, I think making the first half of the track as exciting as the second half and cleaning up the sound will get it to where it needs to be. No, please resubmit
  21. Production and performance on this is excellent, with great details and variation throughout. It is very obvious that a ton of care went into each element of this song. Overall It has some nice cameos, and the arrangement is so varied and the Final Beacon section at the end is so epic, that I am pretty much blown away. Super Yes ps joojes: other sources:
  22. The samples seems fine to me, but the stiff sequencing in the piano lead was pretty apparent, and slightly distracting. The soundscape was really nice, and an excellent job was made of turning the tinny-sounding source into something lush and dreamlike. The variation of sections was great, and the dynamics were solid. I love really well done arrangements of game boy or NES sources, since there is so much expression that can be added to the melodies, and this mix is no exception. I dig it. Yes
  23. that's awesome news! What are you going to attach the rings to? That sounds pretty sweet. I also bought the rocky song, and it's as good as advertised; listening to it, I can already feel the gainz! I will test them by trying to knock out the first Russian I see, though that may not be for awhile, Russians are somewhat scarce in this town.
  24. Pretty solid arrangement, and the piano section was really nice, but I agree that the rhythm guitars aren't cutting it as far as intensity. I think increasing the bass a touch on them to give a bit more body and bringing up the volume a very small amount would help too, and possibly bringing the organ down a touch to compensate would help. Drums are sounding pretty fakey as well, you should humanize them a bit to get a more natural hit pattern going on, with accents and some extra life. Overall this has the making of a great track, and congrats on the DoD win; just some polish and i'd be happy passing this. No, please resubmit
  25. This is a classic example of a solid idea and a really creative approach that could use a bit more polish to make it really live up to the promise it has. The mixing needs a lot of adjustment, as does panning and even a bit of arrangement. I am definitely good with leaving the source melody as is, but there should be some added harmony or rhythm changes that give it more personality and development. You will really want to focus on the mixing though; get that melody in the center and build the other elements around it. You are panning stuff already, you'll just need to have a solid plan of why you are panning things in a certain way to support the main part of the track. No, please resubmit
