OCR TF2: New Server forthcoming - new server IPs and other stuff
Rambo replied to Bahamut's topic in General Discussion
The difference between this and botting in WoW is that Blizzard explicitly forbids it. Prior to retroactively punishing all the people using this program, there was absolutely nothing in the terms, announcements, or blogs that stated, or even implied that it was foul play. This is why valve says: instead of "due to people breaking our rules". In this respect' date=' yes, it [b']would be ludicrous to VAC-ban people retroactively. Or even punish people without warning. It can be assumed that valve spent a month and a half deliberating what they would do about this before acting, which is why they could, and should have given warning or explicitly condemned the program. If this was about doing something that valve considered wrong, than achievement_idlers should be lumped in the same category. I had a good laugh when I saw 6 people with halos in one of those servers this morning. Neither case is what valve intended. And until yesterday, neither was expressed by valve to be cheating. Now one is, and one isn't. Those who chose one over the other got rewarded. I completely understand that valve doesn't like what happened. But they didn't deal with the situation very diplomatically. -

lol yup. Anyone who never used the idle program recieves a halo, wearable by all classes. Confirmed by bonzai. I find it magnificent that they reward achievement grinders with the ability to reset their stats, and they pwn all the idlers. lawl. -

... Your main class is over-healed heavy. If crits don't kill you, what will? :3 -

YES! Seriously, if I had ever gotten a hat outside of the idle program, maybe.. MAYBE I'd stop idling. But until then, hats are a myth in-game. I play WAY too much, and I've never gotten a hat legit. -

+1 TF2 is just fine and dandy with my solid 17fps. I don't particularly enjoy it with 5fps. -
hahahaha. I wasn't sure if you meant Ozzy or Dracula. But you duped me. Happy birthday anyway I guess.... EDIT: ohshit I like your mixes! Cool stuff!

As powerlord pointed out, a lot of custom maps have big optimization problems. Valve maps are very well optimized. This is a first big factor for me. I also feel that most custom maps I've played on have been much more focused on being different and quirky than being well balanced and planned out. Harvest is my favorite arena map. Not because it's fall themed. But because it feels as though the maker designed the layout first. I also like Yukon for the same reason, its consistency and good flow. Cashworks however feels as the it was made in 10 different parts, was given some filler connections, and then had capture points thrown in arbitrarily when it was done. If more mapmakers started with a start-to-finish level layout instead of rushing in and putting rocks everywhere.... there would probably be a much better turn out for good maps. This isn't to say custom maps aren't fun to screw around on. But most of them aren't taylored to to TF2 gameplay. -

+1 I doubt it's possible, but raising the percentage needed would work smoothly if people could see the result of a failed vote. Everyone could see how the votes were made and revote to make a majority something they'd settle on. Example: Vote fails with cyberpunk 25% viaduct 25% goldrush 15% badwater 15% turbine 10% granary 10% People see the results and revote cyberpunk 30% viaduct 60% goldrush 10% badwater 0% turbine 0% granary 0% Instead of going to cyberpunk, that perhaps 70% of people REALLY DON'T WANT, people consolidate. This is an example, any similarities to real people or scenarios are purely coincidence, and don't reflect the views of... myself... or something. -

The update currently breaks the game for people using dx8. There's a TF2 community forum with many people claiming this as the problem anyway. -

Can we please change the MOTD to reflect what's being enforced in the server? Regarding the sticky camping of doors. Darke and I have been telling people it only pertains to spawn doors, while Garian and D-Lux have been applying it to all opaque doors. I don't care which way it's ruled, I just want a concensus. Thanks! -

COOP. All this stuff looks really cool, but I have no idea what the game's about. If you could give a few appropriate scenarios for me to draw, I'd be happy to whip something up! Something epic. Action still. or something. something. -

This has a lot less to do with engineers than it does with one team being much better than another. I hate getting rolled too, but that's why you have your "auto-scramble" stuff. If you're getting crushed by 5 engies, then you'll only have to worry about it for a round. This is the problem 9 times out of 10. -

That'll be awesome when a team has 2 offensive engies, and someone can't change class to defend the intel.
