There is generally an inverse relationship between a game's difficulty and how much memorization must be applied to beat it. (Not that simpler games can't be memorized for optimal efficiency.) Consider that Mario World mod (I forget what it's called- Badass Mario or something?) The people who can run through those levels are not necessarily "skilled." They just remember and commit the levels to memory.

The Smash Brothers New Web Site! AND A SURPRISE!
HideousBeing replied to SnappleMan's topic in General Discussion
same. i was hoping for some kind of hat-tippage by Sakurai toward competitive smash. -
What's that in GMT? I can come from about five hours after this post to 8 hours likewise.
-
So are those of us with AC gonna get together tonight somewhere?
-
My thoughts exactly. People tend to compare new fighters with traditional ones, and then the differences are treated as flaws. If they had done this with ssb, it never would have gotten off the ground. I mean of course, if there wasn't an entire nintendo fanbase having nerdgasms at the very mention of the prospect of a nintendo mascot fighter.

I've added Bigfoot, Zup, and Chris. Let me know if I missed someone. Name: Yogusaki Town: Amble Fruit: Oranges (and maybe coconuts in the future- I just planted a tree) FC: 1247-2313-4826 I share my town with younger family members who are young and impressionable, so please don't do anything obscene when visiting. One last thing: I bought a sick Master Sword at Nooks. It looks really good, especially for Animal Crossing. If anyone is interested in buying it, I'm showcasing it upstairs in my house. When you interact with it, it plays the Windwaker Item Catch Fanfare.

So is being ugly. Edit: That sounds like a juvenile diss. Reference original quote for context.

Remember: no tasteless nudity. Edit: No "tasty" jokes.

It's more akin to super saiyans.

So has anyone actually bought Castlevania Judgment? Anyone planning to? I'm pretty curious if it has a chance.
-
Can you explain what's so enjoyable about the game that one would continue to play it? I know it's not a game you can "beat."
-
Would anyone who has actually played it recommend Animal Crossing for any reason? I really want a game to buy right now, and I just want to know if AC: CF will be worth the money.

His farts. No, in all seriousness, it's mostly his air mobility. To quote a friend of mine, he's like a "Heavyweight Jiggz." Another couple of things that are just great for him are his great recovery, super armor on his fsmash, and the usefulness of his bite in punishing dodges. Edit: Lucas's usmash has that bit of lingering hitbox that has got me more than once. It looks like it's over, and when you attempt to punish the post-lag, you get hit by this... remnant of energy.

About G&W, none taken at all. I know about the whole scrub philosophy and despise it when someone cries cheap. I wouldn't be caught dead doing it myself. If something simple works, use it. What is they say? I think the line is, "Cheep is a scrub's term for 'efficient.'" I used to run after school events at my high school, where I made sure no one used the "c word." About Wario's fsmash, I do that on purpose. If he's interpenetrating with them, he'll hit them, even if he goes the other way. It's safer, because in a lot of cases, I can avoid punishment if I miss. Don't think I was missing or anything. That... isn't easy to do, since I use the C-stick. Seriously. Every time I fsmashed, the direction I did it in was intended. Edit: One more thing. Do you have a main? Who would you play in a tournament?

GT, I'm so there. For the next seven hours after the time of this post, I'm free. There may be a brief interruption if we get playing when my housecleaners come in to clean the room. Edit: GG's again.I think I have to accept that your intuition is just better than mine.

OH YEAH. Rather than delaying input on both ends as far as character movement, the lag takes effect in the items and their effects. You won't see an item like a laid peel by another player in front of you until it's too late. The mindgame potential is huge, lol. In fact, basically the only thing you see in real time is yourself. The other players sometimes briefly desync, and you see them fly off the side, only to appear back on the track again. Or you'll shoot a green shell, watch it go right through the other guy, and then in a second, they're right in front of you, stopped, and you just bash them out of the way. The point system is so frustrating though. You gain 10 points per placement at high point amounts for dozens of races, and then get gimped on Mushroom Gorge and lose some 350 points. I think of sworn aloud at the computer playing that game. It's just one of those... It's just great to have no lag in controlling your character, though. Edit: Sure Glenn. FC? Mine's 3308 4269 0829. Edit your post please, I'd prefer we don't cramp the thread with matchmaking. They should make a matchmaking thread. Edit 2: Added you. I'm waiting online now. Edit 3: Sorry man. That lag was unforgivable. I can't play like that. You could have pulled out a falcon punch and I wouldn't have had time to react under the lag. gg's

Anyone up for some Brawl?
-
The other thing I sometimes forget is that you can't grab the ledge facing backwards. I've never actually tried hugging in melee, I just forget I don't have some luxuries, like canceling a failed, outwards facing upB with Marth by DIing toward the ledge and grabbing it. I end up doing the upB, forcing a vulnerable landing and getting punished.

The Newbie Introduction Thread: Come on in and say hello!
HideousBeing replied to Mahaboo's topic in General Discussion
An SC remix? That would be interesting. -
I noticed. Being campy is quite rewarding in Brawl. I try to employ it as much as possible without being predictable. From the sound of it, you seem qualified to challenge Salluz. Aww. Thanks! Alright. I was only curious if you were some big name who used a different name for OCR. I was half expecting, "Yeah, I'm Eggz on SWF."
-
gg's GT, you're an inspiring player. I can't believe you beat my main with CF. I think I learned a lot today just playing with you. Do you have an alias on smashboards?
-
Oh. It's allisbrawl.com. I just use it because I don't have AIM. Edit: I'll be on in a sec.
-
Are you like, the n00b filter? No offense. If that sounds in any way offensive, I didn't mean it to.
-
I'd like some 1v1's. BFC: 3308 4269 0829 Do you have an AiB account? I'm HideousBeing on AiB. We could use their chat. Edit: I'm in Smash Talk right now.

I agree with SamuraiPanda's statement that Brawl is its own game entirely, and doesn't deserve to be compared to Melee. Even, however, as a stand alone game, Brawl is not acceptably competitive. I agree, JS, with your statement that it doesn't require enough skill to be play well. I never thought I'd be saying this, but apparently, there is such a thing as too noob friendly. (I used to say the opposite in defense of SC II being more noob friendly with everything being automated, claiming that there would only be more room for the pros to excel at micro.) But that's a story for another thread. It's just not rewarding enough to become proficient at Brawl. I worked darn hard to learn to apply AT's in Melee, and it was bloody worth it in the end. What I hate the most is that this is exactly what Sakurai wanted. He didn't want the game to be competitive. He wanted it to be easy for everyone. -A party game. Something to laugh about. Nothing to be serious about. He did a bloody good job, blast him. Am I generalizing? Sure. Is there a skill gap in Brawl? Absolutely. It's just not enough. Why do people still attempt to play Brawl competitively then? Here are my theories: -They refuse to let Sakurai have the satisfaction that he succeeded. This was my problem before I capitulated. -They are just too bored with Melee metagame and desperately want something new, not wanting to believe Brawl is as bad as it is. -They just stopped caring, or, in the case of newbies (respectfully), are ignorant of Brawl's fail.
