  1. At first, I didn't think this track could be mixed any other way... but the chords actually do well for a Jazz ensemble. GREAT sax work.
  2. Another one of those tracks that just doesn't do well as a remix, especially in this style. Like, people need to develop a sense of what sounds GOOD, and what DOESN'T. There are people that think that ANYTHING can be re-mixed into a hip-hop, dance, jazz, or WHATEVER track. Some, and a LOT of tracks from different games can. But, not ALL, and people need to really sit down and think things through. This really does NOT sound good in hip-hop. Or if there is "potential," it really sucks, at least for now.
  3. But this arrangement SUCKS. Too amateur... The guy probably has a bad ear, and has limited playing skills. WRONG key, WRONG chords, and TOO much goddamn ornamentation. I've been called before on my peeve of key. "What's in a key?" Someone has asked? KEY IS EVERYTHING!!! If you can't appreciate a song in the KEY it's been written, and just say "ooh, that sounds KOO-el," it's not really saying much. It just shows what a musical bumpkin you really are. A song played out of the original key it was intended in sounds REALLY out of place. Sometimes, it sounds like it's not even the original piece at all. A song played OUT of key, sounds dumbed down; like the person was too unskilled and inexperienced to play in the original key, so he/she had to play it in a different key to make it "easier" on his fingers, and on his/her little mind that thinks the key of F# or Gb is "too hard!," when it's probably the easiest. What can be easier than playing on ALL BLACK KEYS, goddamn it??? That and Db Major are, I think my favs... A major's also really nice... Each key has a different flavor to the ears, and this is pronunced for a pianist, who has the extra sense of touch; he/she has to modify his hands to fit the chords, so not only does it "sound" different, but FEELS different as well. Though a GOOD piano arrangement is in order for this, one of my favorite, if not my most, from all of Zelda: A Link to the Past. This one tries, but doesn't even come close. Practice, practice, practice, and better luck next time.
  4. DON'T do a "jazz" piece without real instruments. It makes the remix sound CORNY as all fuck. And what the hell's with the pitch wheel? Can a real sax even oscillate within such a wide range? Only adds to the corniness...
  5. gay, gay, gay... ...gay, guy, gicky, go, goo, goo, goo, gicky, gay, gie, guy, go, goo, gicky, guy, go, goo... This track goes right up there with that other "Hey everyone, I'm Sonic and I'm the fastest thing alive!" crap. If you're gonna re-mix something, for goddamn's sake, RE-MIX IT! Keep your sense of humour OUT! It only ADDS to how sucky the re-mix is! I'm not downloading it, even though the waltz sounded "OK." I don't want my friends to hear that gay part at the beginning... SHEESH.
  6. Not every melody can be turned into a "rave" track. Kakariko village is such a soft, calm, gentle tune, it really contrasts being put in a dance track. Sorry, it just doesn't "go."
  7. Fricky Fricky Fricky! Except for, no. Sounds like any other rap-background track; long and repetative... It was creative for the first minute or so... then I'm all like... is this it?
  8. I think this theme's been done WAY too much... and this is just one more time I have to sit through it... No offence, but it really sounds amateurish. The reed breaks a few times, and the group just doesn't sound together. Also, I really don't think this theme fits a jazz setting. It would have to be REAL good, and this just doesn't cut it... sorry guys...
  9. Seriously, this was one of the tracks I hated the MOST in ZALTTP. It's boring, repetative, and it's played in 7 long levels!!! The music is GREAT. GENIUS. Only, I think it's wasted on this track. SERIOUSLY. This track was nothing special. Nothing special at all. And all this beautiful work went into it. Seriously. What a waste. Don't get me wrong, the music is AWESOME. But the original track's a waste of precious time. Seriously, this could probably count as its own piece. It takes a crappy track and makes it sound beautiful.
  10. The TSUZUMI in the compound meter in the middle of the piece!!! I LOVE IT INSTANTLY!!! This guy gets really creative in the variation of the melodies, and in the meters. Caught me by surprise. I can see this arrangement's namesake. Excellent work in modulating between major and minor and vice versa. Interesting intro, and development of the arrangement. LOVE the fact that you used one of my ears' most treasured sounds.
  11. Except for that DISPICABLE diminished vii chord that kept repeating throughout the piece! UH!!! I hate it I hate it! HATE IT!!!! Other than that, it's an ok work... not downloading it though... It would be suicide for my ears...
  12. The arranger is very adventurous in his usage of new chords, but he does this very well. Love the usage of accoustic guitar. At times in the music, there seems potential for a celtic arrangement. I could almost hear a celtic flute like in Lord of the Rings or something. Maybe even a lone bagpipe... Great work!
  13. Overall, this is an -OK- arrangement. You basically throw in a lot of tunes from the game, with, I suppose, a bit of your own creative flare. What I like is that you definitely keep true to the chords in the original pieces. It takes a great ear for that, and I'm not sure even I could get those down, unless you're like me and you paused the game over and over... or just got a hold of the original SM files... GREAT work in hitting those chords. What's kind of a let down in this arrangement is that you only choose low, quiet works; nothing too exciting. It doesn't really take advantage of your playing ability, unless... you chose those tunes on purpose to keep to your ability... not that there's anything wrong with that... Also, I don't like the dynamic articulation in this recording. I felt there was too much emphasis where there shouldn't have been. Too much hamming up... Where you should have been lower, piano, and slow, you were speeding it up a little too much, and playing a little too loud. Don't get me wrong. This sounds like it could be a great arrangement, but I think it needs a little more work. Don't ham it up. Slow down and try to play pianissimo. The tracks you chose are soft, low, and delicate, and they're easily ruined when you try to show off. Playing them faster/louder doesn't make them sound better.
  14. The opening's just the original, but then in the re-mix, the melody starts on the first beat, instead of the 2nd 8th note. Really caught me off guard. The Tail Cave is one of my favorite tracks in the game. A lot of the rest of the sound track is just variation on this one theme. And the Tail Cave itself is just a take of the Wind Fish Ballad in minor! The original composer(s) for the game really went balls to the wall on it!
  15. This was kind of BLAH... Not to mention the sudden and only variation in the melody really annoyed the fuck out of me. If you're going to variate, variate. But please don't fuck up the original melody just cuz you thought "it'd be cute..." Like, it was annoying to hear the melody like it does in the game and then "fwoop!" It's different in this ONE place, the rest is verbatim. Over all a real boring arrangement.
  16. I started wondering WHY this remixer decided to speed up the melody, give it to a violin, and add a baroque backrgound... Then I heard why... the Windwaker cameo was not a bad idea, but a bit too... well... predictable. Got a little old after a while. I wanted to hear more original interpretations... but oh well....
  17. It sounded like a good idea, and it does. Only thing I complain is that the new chords DON'T FIT, and the remixer's take on the melody really makes it sound off. Like he has bad ears and couldn't get it right or something. That's just me though. The waves DO sound great, and the ocarina with the waves in the background sounds like a good intro. The chords and the off parts of the melody are my only complaint. New chords don't bother me, it's when they don't flow. These just sound choppy and out of place... Good points... the waves and ocarina intro... the harmonized piano part, the sound of the acoustic guitar.
  18. Yeah, I'd have to say it was ALMOST a straight rip-off (some of the notes are off in the countermelody though...), but I LOVE the part when the slap comes in. Gets really creative thereafter.
  19. Excellent adaptation! This could easily be stolen by a rapper. It certainly is upbeat. At the beginning, I could swear I thought it sounded like the beginning to a Destiny's Child song. Great work!
  20. There's really nothing much to this re-mix... it just gives you the base line, repeats the first half of the tune, true to the original, for a while, and then does the same with the second. There is definitely potential for this re-mix, as it could use a little more creativity and originality. There's really nothing too creative about sitting the original melody on a fast, upbeat percussion line... Though the mix does kind of grow on you...
  21. I love how it starts out. It definitely has that nocturnal "creeping through the night" kind of feel. My one complaint is that I'm given too much, too fast. It gets very quick, and there certainly seems to be a lot of background noise and sound effects. It would have been ideal to have kept this piece quieted down. But other than that, I love the different things this remixer tries
  22. I love the style in which this is re-done. Nothing like a good distorted synth to blend it all in. I like all the side work that was done on this too. All the other minor instruments give the foreground really good support. You know what this piece really reminds me of? The way the style and patches were chosen? The Chrome Gadget Zone from Sonic 3. (One of the 2 player sprint matches...) I like to hear different layers of music. This re-mix really does that.
  23. Well done taking advantage of the piece's already upbeat tempo. GREAT patch choices, and I think one of the best parts of this re-mix is that it's LENGTHY! It's something I actually WANT to hear go on for a while! Nice job!
