  1. Another guy who thought he would be cool by putting lyrics to a perfectly GOOD piece of music that stands on its own... way to ruin one of my favorite melodies...
  2. I've loved this genre for so long, only, I never knew what it was called... lounge? Is it? I love smooth music like this, esp. of the bossa nova/ samba variety, but even though it looks like "bossa nova" could be considered "lounge," I really kept it in its own genre. It's just like, Jazz with a Brazilian take on it... LOVE IT... The mixer does a good job with the swing beat in this one, LOVE the re-work of the chords and the instrumentation. Only complaint is that he/she could have done more. Loved the feel, but it just ended too soon. Other than that, GREAT music.
  3. Yay! Tetris goes Lambada! Not a COMPLETE rip-off, at least there is his own base and percussion. It's alright!
  4. Can we say TYPICAL? Lord knows how many time a long-ass intro has been used, only to deliver a corny version of the original... right up there electronic snare with gradually getting louder... priceless.
  5. YEAH! This did NOT disappoint at all. Great little background goin' on, and I LOVED the way the naked melody was introduced, and then the second time around it's full blown glory is revealed with its harmony! SO nostalgic. I wanna cry...
  6. Again, there's only so much you can do to Sonic CD music... Interesting sound bite though. At times, it's pretty barebones in comparison to the original. But love somethings, like the sliding sawtooth lead.
  7. Sounded like it was actually gonna go somewhere... entirely too short...
  8. To be honest, it's NOT that much different from the original, but this guy manages to give it a refreshed feel to it. I LOVED the fact that he decided to keep the quick latin piano runs. Again, only so much you can do with Sonic CD music...
  9. Basically almost exactly the same as the original. Don't HATE this, it sounds great. However, the music for the Zones in Sonic CD are all basically variations on one melody. There's a "re-mix" for the past and future ALREADY, so there's only really so much you can re-mix, unless you can REALLY get creative... Other than that, I really like it.
  10. The opening "ew yeah" is REALLY annoying, which is a shame because other than that, this is an OK mix. But don't feel bad, cuz that was this piece's original flaw anyway. Even in the original, I thought the singing was being done by some retard. The other iffy part is on the differing from the original. The samples are different, but all in all, isn't this just basically a recreation of the original piece using different samples? Just me. OK mix though, if you can ignore the opening...
  11. Actually, a nice soft rendition compared to the original, which I can't say is a bad thing. I think the original can be a bit too hyper and bouncy/happy from the very beginning. It's nice to hear a rendition that really slows it down enough to appreciate the chord progression. LOVE the flat chords from the tonic. Just my own thought, though, the chords, esp. the beginning sounded like it could have easily been mixed with the Triforce Chamber theme from Zelda: A Link to the Past. Would have been interesting to hear the two melodies interwoven w/ each other. GREAT work, though.
  12. I keep wishing for a GOOD re-mix of this song... something with a REAL lead electric guitar in the melody? And the "battery!" word is really annoying! Is it REALLY necessary to mix the zone name in there, as if the piece didn't speak for itself?
  13. Stopped it as soon as I heard them. (Not to mention the singing sucked, esp. the nasal male part...) Write your own musical platform, you thieveing bitches.
  14. Takes a pre-existing rhythm and elaborates just a bit; nothing special... Could it have been given a cornier name? Was a bit of a let-down, actually... The name "Las Trompetas Maravillosas" means the "wonderful/marvelous trumpets," and the trumpets were anything but "marvelous..."
  15. Good listen! Definitely feel the original's feeling in it... The piano and chord progression sounds like it could have been a good segway into Donkey Kong Country's Hot Head Hop. Other than that, great stuff.
  16. This work was pretty cool. The one thing I found annoying, however, was the tempo changes... Until then it was quite relaxing to listen to. I can actually picture being out on a hot desert listening to this...
  17. I'm not sure this could count as a "re-mix" as it could count as an entirely new work based off of melodies and countermelodies of another work. Though I could hear the counter melody present in the source in the background, and the main melody given to the sax, I think the new chords, rhythm and speed give Lava Reef (after) an entirely new feel. GREAT work. Ideal for relaxing out on a summer beach. I could be playing this as I watch the sun set driving on Hwy 1 in Big Sur. GREAT work.
  18. The music is pretty cool, no doubt about that. Good base, percussion... But it does not do this melody justice. Actually, this is not my most FAVORITE Sonic 1 piece, but I kinda liked it... More could have been done with this melody besides just sitting it on one chord for most of the song. And then when it goes into the bridge, WHY does it go down to the 5th instead of the flat VII chord? Kills the original melody. Sorry, but this piece makes the original melody sound boring and uninteresting. What's going on sounds really awesome, but more could have been done in terms of creative re-interpretation on the part of the chords, and maybe even the melody.
  19. It's alright music, but lacks creativity if you asked me... Scrap Brain is actually my favorite track out of all of Sonic 1, and I felt this mix doesn't do it much justice just sitting the main melody on mostly one minor chord. Kind of boring... It takes a good melody line and just blandens it (if that's even a word...). There it sits, mostly stripped... Mind you, a new chord progression isn't bad, when done well. Only thing about this one is that it rarely progresses, if at all...
  20. Love the new chords and instrumentation! It's evident the creative work that went into creating it. Not to mention, it's lenghty, nothing like hearing something good for longer!
  21. I thought it was kind of colorful and very feel-good. A totally new chord progression that, I think, gives an old melody an entirely new feel. I like the mix-in of the option screen and what the mixer did with that as well. New mix, but still preserves that continuous feeling from the special stage. Excellent work.
  22. Hearing the melodie in an almost inaudible bass patch is annoying as all fuck.
  23. Don't get me wrong, I think it's always a great idea to do a track using real instruments. I could hear almost everything, but in some parts, it sounds like there is so much going on it's almost out of tune... GREAT work though. Downloaded it...
  24. It had been a while since I've heard this track. I always played Sonic 3 locked on to Sonic and Knuckles, so I just never passed the game on its own... GREAT rendition.
