3DS: Friend Codes on First Page, OMG THE THIRD DIMENSION
Arrow replied to The Damned's topic in General Discussion
Bahamut and I got the chance to put some heavy work into the new games last night thanks to a respectable amount of StreetPasses at the local Video Games Live (which Jill did an amazing job singing at, btw). We both felt Mii Force and Warrior's Way were pretty great. Monster Manor is fairly fun as well. Flower Town is aesthetically nice, but fairly pointless, especially if you have Animal Crossing and are watering your shit-ton of plants in that game already. But the biggest thing we took out of the new games was how clearing out your StreetPasses is going to be a nightmare at MAGFest now. Everyone's gonna be on their 3DS ALL THE TIME. EDIT: As best I can tell there's only 4 new puzzles: Xenoblade Chronicles, Nintendo Starlets, New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U, and Skyward Sword. -
This free Flash game got released yesterday and oh my god, it's like a long-last Sega Genesis classic. I saw a description on Destructoid that said "Sonic mixed with Strider", and that's about right for the gameplay. The music is FM deliciousness. I'm only two levels in so far (well, three counting the intro level), but I can tell I'm gonna enjoy this one. Ya'll need to get up on this. (doesn't seem to play well with my JoyToKey + Xbox 360 controller though; I can't map movement to the d-pad instead of the analog stick)

I was handling things okay as I walked through that dream until I got to the bottom-right part of town where a bunch of graves ALL have pitfalls in front of them. That shit is creepy!
-
I kind of want to see a House Hunters remix project now... Throw some Design on a Dime tracks in there to beef it up.

I have highlighted the most important part of that post. Glad you could make time for that. I'm not even joking.

MAGFest 12 - Post-MAGFest Depression hits again
Arrow replied to Arrow's topic in General Discussion
MAG capped at 3000 during the 6-9 days because that was the maximum attendance the Alexandria Mark Hilton could hold, and we hit that cap during MAG 9. Since moving to the Gaylord, there's been no cap that I know of, mostly because there's no earthly way we could ever fill that place to max capacity. The larger individual meeting rooms there have caps of 10000, so all of MAGFest would have to go to something to cap that one room. You do have to worry about running out of rooms on the MAG rate, but there's also a lot of smaller hotels in walking distance if worse comes to worse. -
Alright, I've made slight changes yet again. I really really like that "firm resolve" line, so I pretty much stuck that in wholesale. I thought "their primary targets consist of" would be nice, but then realize I'd have two instances of "of the" back to back, so I went with "include" as you suggested. I also noticed that the in-progress page for Vyse at the wiki lists a reference I wasn't actually using. I assume those are just a placeholder? I can give the references I used again at the end once the text has been finalized for the bio itself. Anyways, here's the newest one: ----- EDIT: I completely missed Dafydd's post. Wait a minute before you guys look into this one; I'm probably going to have to edit it later.

Thanks everyone! Been celebrating so far by eating a cupcake and playing Animal Crossing when I should be working. ....lolololol

MAGFest 12 - Post-MAGFest Depression hits again

Back during MAG 6 and 8, I drove back and forth since I'm only 30 minutes away myself, but quickly came to the conclusion that you miss absolutely everything if you don't get a room. I've stayed there since. I remember Kizyr saying he'd probably get a room this year for much the same reason. -

Arrow from Onore, oranges all up in this piece. This is actually the first Animal Crossing I've spent more than 5 hours with without getting bored. We'll see whether I can keep the streak going, but this is honestly nice so far.

So many Simon/Pit/Mega Man jokes, but after reading Sir_NutS' comments, adding Simon actually sounds like a pretty good idea.

Sorry for the major delay. Dafydd, I've taken your suggestions and tried to re-order and re-word things to best fit. Besides any other concerns you have right now, my only question is whether paragraphs 2 and 3 can be joined together or if they're so big that they should remain two separate paragraphs as they are now. I also didn't really feel like I could move the "heart full of curiosity" line any further down without running into problems, though you may have a better idea on that one. --------- In the world of Arcadia, all of the continents are floating islands. Six colored moons orbit the planet, and lunar asteroids fall from them regularly. These "Moon Stones" power nearly everything people use on a daily basis, from machinery to magic. Using Moon Stone-powered ships, people sail through the skies to trade, fish, and make a living. In this world lives Vyse, a teenager with a heart full of curiosity. His family and closest friends are all members of the Blue Rogues, a faction of air pirates who steal from the rich. They then use what they've stolen to protect the innocent and help the needy. Vyse serves with his father's band of pirates, and he is formidable in combat thanks to his skills with twin cutlasses. Aika, a feisty redhead and his best friend from childhood, is equally skilled at fighting. The two often team up to take down large groups of opponents without fear. The primary targets of Vyse and his fellow Blue Rogues are the forces of the Valuan Empire, who come from the more advanced civilization under the Yellow Moon, and whose empress is obsessed with controlling all that she sees. The Blue Rogues also battle with the Black Pirates, a rival marauder faction that doesn't hesitate to kill and steal from everyone they come across. Vyse has always desired to explore more than just the area near his home, to fly "beyond the sunset" and encounter things people have only imagined. He and Aika thus find their worldview thrown for a loop when they meet Fina, a mysterious girl from an unknown land. Fina has a secret mission that puts her in direct conflict with the Valuan Empire and their ambition. In their attempts to keep their new friend safe from harm, Vyse and Aika realize this mission will take them on a trip around Arcadia, to lands no one has seen in millennia. Unable to resist the call of heroism and discovery, the three set sail for the adventure of a lifetime.

All good points. That said, the battle system does provide a huge amount of skill if you're not over-leveling. A combination of putting thought into advance gem setups and strategizing your choice of characters and attacks makes for some amazing battles. The problem is that in most cases, you don't need to do any of that. The other problem is, you'll never realize this is even a thing unless you forever remove Sharla from your party (she's a crutch for people who are stuck on the mentality that you have to have a healer in your party, and artificially extends battle time in the process). But if you know what you're doing and use this to its full, you can take on enemies 20 levels over your party successfully. It's pretty much required knowledge for the optional super bosses, of course.

In addition to making the suggested fixes and dropping the number of times I used Fina's name from 4 to 2, I also realized I used the word basis twice in that first paragraph, and edited an additional spot there as a result. Here's the newest take. PS: How many people in these 150 pages of thread have joked about paying you guys to edit other stuff they've done? Cause damn, you're good, and I wouldn't even be joking. ---------- In the world of Arcadia, all of the continents are floating islands. Thanks for the suggestions; I'm back in town now and can edit this more often. I left it "formidable" since I didn't want to have to change the other instance of fear. As for Empress Teodora, she's a fairly generic high queen RPG villain who wants to use terrifying giant monsters to subjugate the entire world, so "obsessed with controlling all she sees" is pretty accurate. I was fine with changing to "has no qualms about". Here's the latest. ----- In the world of Arcadia, all of the continents are floating islands. Honestly, of the four quotes, while I still prefer the first for its badass quotient, the second is the best in terms of his characterization, no doubt. A significant part of the game is the Swashbuckler Rating where you have to make solid decisions, not be a coward, and be a good leader and person. As a result of that and the general tone of the game, Vyse's optimism is so obvious that many people described Skies of Arcadia as a refreshing alternative to the trend of FFVII clones full of grimness and depressing characters. So any quote that clearly shows his optimism, tendency to help people, and bravery in one go is the best one, and that's the second one. I'll go with that one. I thought "formidable during combat" might work well in place of "feared on the battlefield" or "fearsome". It's accurate enough, especially as Vyse gets more and more well-known over the course of the game. I tried "formidable while fighting" first until I realized I used the word fighting the very next sentence when talking about Aika. Chopping off the "age of discovery" line from the first paragraph gave me an excuse to add the word discovery to the final line, which I felt should mention something besides heroism alone but didn't want to use the word discovery twice, so that was fine with me. On a side note, just realized I spelled feisty wrong. That's fixed now. Here's the latest attempt. ---------- In the world of Arcadia, all of the continents are floating islands. Six colored moons orbit the planet, and lunar asteroids called Moon Stones fall from them on a regular basis. - Yeah, his second quote is probably the best of the bunch for the terms of the bio. I prefer the Impossible quote just because of how badass it is, but I'll concede that one. - The "and keep what they take!" bit was actually a reworded quote from the game, but it was from Vyse excitedly describing his job to Fina, so I see how that doesn't necessarily go well with an attempt to be grammatically sensible in a bio. Here's the second draft, taking all of your suggestions into consideration. Well, if we're preemptively claiming bios to write, Vyse is MINE, son. Step back.
