Congrats DA!! Woohoo representing the female gender on the panel. And dragons.

Yaaaaaay my video is done!! I'm pleased with it, even though it's n00bish and not exactly a well-crafted masterpiece. But I hope you enjoy it. It's uploaded to YouTube as a private video. Biznut should I invite you to view it?

I think this is a great idea Dyne! I'd like to be involved. I'm a firm believer that having the support of a group can make a dramatic difference in motivation and progress, over working alone. My background is rooted in playing instruments (piano, guitar, voice, violin, viola, flute) and music theory/composition, and would be happy to help novices with questions in these areas. I personally would like to improve on production, and arrangement in electronic styles. I would participate here or over on Facebook. Weekly meetings, that sounds like something for IRC? I think the meetings are a great idea too because I'm a big proponent of group challenges with explicit deadlines, like the compos or NaNoWriMo because it gives a way to keep people accountable and let us check on each other's progress so we don't slack.

I'm almost done, like 80%. Planning to finish up on Sunday. Very happy with how it's turning out, and totally pumped to see everyone's videos!! Yay!

Yay this was my first time at Genericon and it was awesome! Among the highlights for me was playing in the hallway for tips: Also awesome was getting to hear OCRemixes being played at Meka's Lounge, and of course our panel which was a great time as always.

So snow day off from work means I started filming today. I've got 10 seconds of video into iMovie and actually it looks not bad! Yeah I decided to stick with iMovie for now, I figured out how to get it to do what I needed. I don't know if I really have enough ideas to fill out the full time of the remix, but... I'll figure out some filler to throw in there ; LAOS - that sucks, good luck in finishing your video. I'm sure you'll be able to pull it together, friendlyhunter and biznut had some top-notch suggestions. Also the synchtube thing looks cool, looking forward to our viewing party! .D Yaaaay I'm excited!

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually was going to post in here asking for recommendations for free/cheap video editing software. I don't fancy putting this together in iMovie, considering you can't line up video with audio very easily (making the idea of a MUSIC video kinda pointless, how am I going to convey that certain visuals go with certain parts of the song?) and also I never figured out how to turn off the audio from your imported video file, if there is a way. Have not started filming yet. I'm actually stuck on a specific (and significant) problem, that I would post here for help but it would kind of totally give away what I am doing. So I'll try to figure out something on my own and/or enlist the help of Palpable. Edit: LAOS, you can do it!! Just have to push through the slump to your 2nd wind. We want to see what your awesome video is!!

So I have pretty much decided on my concept and the remix I'd like to use. What did we decide about contacting the remixer? Should I ask them for permission or is it more like, "hey I'm making a music video of this and you can't stop me!" But I mean, in a polite way. And should I update the thread with my choice of remix or should we save it as a surprise? I'm getting excited though I'm not sure if I'll really be able to pull this off. But I'm gonna try. In the next few days I will start with the first step: set/prop construction!! This is going to be fuuuun!! .D

As I am totally new to video, my progress is that I practiced taking video with the camcorder and putting it into iMovie and editing it. I still have not chosen a remix or settled on one idea. Srsly I'm not sure I'm going to be able to pull something together, but there's still more than a month left, so I'm not throwing in the towel yet. But I'm glad that people sound so confident about their videos! I really look forward to seeing them. And I'm sure there will be a lot for me to learn from in seeing what everyone else comes up with.

A very sexy Suzumebachi(25) and Dyne(107) Birthday Thread.

Happy birthday you guys!! <3 -
Funny, Palp just introduced me to this source a few days ago. Really digging this new arrangement! Lots of great elements in here, like the acoustic guitar and awesome vocals. I'm still learning as a producer myself, but to me the production sounds good overall. At around 2 minutes in, I think the vocals get swallowed a little by all the other elements that come in then. Love the quiet part at 3 minutes, very sparse but is still compelling and a nice build up to the next chorus -- and then I looove that moment when the beat comes in. After that, the timing feels a little off in some of the percussive elements, I don't know whether this is due to the playing or it could be excess reverb/delay in the high end. Or maybe just my headphones ; Great vocal stylings at the end. Overall very enjoyable mix, will definitely be repeat listening to this one!

Weird. I usu DO get motion sick very easily from games in first person view, but this one didn't make me sick. Then again, I only played for about 2 minutes before I got bored of it.

OCR Meetup: Las Vegas, August 2010: **PICS PAGE 43-44**

That's very generous of you, though I would be fine splitting it 3 ways to be fair However I don't think I'll have a definite answer on whether I'll go just yet. I will probably be considering this over the next few months. Also, I'd love to see a Cirque du Soleil show. My sister told me she's been trying to see O for years but it's always booked way in advance. -

Against my better judgment, I'm seriously considering. It's difficult because I was planning to take off of work for all of July, but it's possible I'll be able to get away with going for the weekend without taking off any days (I don't work on Friday), and if the airfare/accomodations aren't too expensive... yeah, I think this may actually be doable. What are some of the proposed activities? I don't have much interest in casinos/gambling, and have some amount of interest in seeing shows. (Those are 2 out of the first 3 things that come to mind as definitive Vegas activities.) But srsly even just hanging out together not doing anything in particular I think would be an awesome time, so whatever activities end up happening I'm sure will be super. -
Holy crap... MAGFest is really over
-
Sounds good. Agree that your place is more convenient for most, I just didn't want to suggest "hanging out at someone's place" without offering my own, you know, basically inviting myself over to somebody else's house. ; See y'all there!
-
Just checked with Palpable, and we'd like to offer our place to hang out on Saturday. (Would have said so in this post before but wanted to check with him first.) It's in Fairfax, maybe about an hour away from Brushfire or Stevo's place, but we have plenty of space and board games and a Wii
-
I'm in the same boat, but I still want to try. I'm totally innundated at the moment; in a couple of weeks I'll go through the remixes to look for an appropriate mix for which a vid would be doable.
-
I'll third the preference for something other than Medieval Times, also bc I've already gone, it's pricey, etc. Also just wanted to second not worrying about my dietry restrictions bc I can usually find something. I don't know that we have to plan any particular special activity, what if we just get together at someone's place and hang out with drinks and video games and stuff? I can bring board games too, I have a ton.
-
Ah Wes, you are too awesome for doing this. Sure I'll sign up, sounds like fun Though I have to be honest, there is an item I know is in there that I don't particularly want ,)
-
Hmm there's a lot of awesome I could write about, but there are basically just 2 things I want to say: This was my first MAGFest, which is strange bc I had been considering going every year since like 2006 but didn't manage to make it until now. Anyway, I wasn't sure if anybody would really know who I am since I'm relatively new and have not done much of note on OCR. But all the OCR folk I met were very friendly and I felt very welcomed as a part of the community. It was really uncanny to walk around the convention and pretty much everywhere I went, there was somebody from OCR to hang out with. Above all the things I did, the best part was spending time with and getting to know the people I met. And by Sunday night it felt like I was saying goodbye to old friends. The other part that was really great was jamming in jamspace or randomly in peoples' rooms. I don't have many musician friends outside of OCR to jam with, and I'm used to just either playing solo or making music on the computer. So this was quite a special experience for me. I'll have to learn more VG classics to play between now and the next MAG, and practice guitar a lot to make myself more useful in future jam sessions.

Sorry pie, next time we need to schedule our SSB at a time other than when you all are doing your judgey stuff. But of course I agree that the original's where it's at. I also would have liked to get in on some Tetris Attack.
-
yesssss we will. but smash bros was awesome too. (until someone tripped over the power cord.)
-
Vin + I did too. Next year, we are so taking that Monday off, or whatever day of the week it is. None of this "we'll just go to the con for the weekend" silliness.

I'm going to be taking a (temporary -- I hope) hiatus from the OHC, to focus on my various personal projects, some of which include original songs that I want to flesh out and polish. This in itself may not be such a newsworthy event to be posting about it in this thread, but I did want to say this: When I started the compos back in June, it was because I wanted to get better at music, specifically making music on the computer and using FL Studio. I had all these song ideas but didn't know how to express them, I just didn't know the tools well enough. As I expected, the compos really helped me improve in that area. Now I am at the point where I feel ready to do that, hence why I am now taking a hiatus to work on my songs. What I got that I didn't expect was new friends and a sense of belonging in a community. I think it really just hit me at MAG, when I met face-to-face so many people I knew through the shared experience of compos. So thank you starla for the OHC, and thanks everyone for listening to my music and critiquing it and helping me improve, as well as just making music and having fun together. Keep rocking, you guys are awesome <3
