  1. Nah, it's not so much that as it's just the same as any other piece of recorded music. Right now, federal law prevents the unauthorized distribution of copyrighted works, and posting a zip of a game soundtrack, even if there's no "official" album, is definitely unauthorized distribution of copyrighted works. The music is certainly under copyright law, even though the initial distribution media is a bit different.
  2. Technically, I don't think that link follows forum rules, as that could be construed as piracy. As much as I'd like to have the soundtrack in such a nice little package, I don't know if the mods will want to leave the link up.
  3. I'd definitely be interested in a compo of this nature. Whether or not I have time will have to be determined closer to the start of the thing, but hey.
  4. This. I know I did release a track through my podcast, but (a) it was a bonus track, rather than a "true" album track, and ( I ran the idea past Emu before I did it.
  5. Righto, guys. New deadline is July 14 at 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time. I wanna hear some truly epic remixes outta y'all!
  6. Definitely extending another week--running a comment poll on http://www.facebook.com/flexstylemusic as to whether I should extend for another three weeks total. Wanna enter? Vote!
  7. Well, I'm going on vacation for the next week or so (starting on Sunday), so I'm really not going to have time to judge everything. What say I extend for one more week?
  8. Enchanted Riverbank is now completely, totally, one hundred percent done. And Emu has a wav of it. Good freakin' riddance.
  9. I've had several entries, but none within the last, oh, 3 weeks or so. I'm also kinda hoping to raise the current bar in terms of remix quality, as I've got a couple good entries but most are rather forgettable.
  10. One last bump before the contest deadline hits in two days. Anyone interested?
  11. Haha, yeah, I've got stuff that was accepted over a year ago that hasn't hit yet. It's a long game of "hurry up and wait" when it comes to mixposts. It'll happen eventually.
  12. Dude, I just noticed you won the FF6 compo! Fantastic work!

  13. Indeed, you're welcome to do so. I do find that whenever a mod has already reviewed a track, though, that it has lower priority in the eyes of other mods. Just personal observation. Once you've gotten a couple more opinions, I'd recommend setting it to "finished," if possible.
  14. <MODREVIEW> Well, I must say, this is quite a pleasant listen. I do indeed like the way you've gotten CVPiano to sound (can be difficult sometimes, I agree), and the arrangement flows very nicely. There's a rogue timing issue at about 0:20-ish; you'll hear it if you listen, I think. I will agree with the comments about repetitiveness in the section between about 2:00 and 2:30. My remedy would be to spruce up the piano part, do a bit more arranging with the source in that section. Put some flourishes in there, so that we know this isn't just copy-pasted from earlier in the song. Judges tend to dislike repetitiveness quite a lot. Overall, the piano playing is perhaps a bit rigid, although I'm not sure how much luck you'll have with that issue with CVP. Some of the timings are still just a bit too locked into the piano roll, if that makes sense, and I'd tweak the velocities a bit too. Put a bit more emotion in there if possible. I have no quibbles with the mix, at all, as it does a lovely job of avoiding distractions from the arrangement. Overall, it's quite nice, but I'd fix just a couple minor things before I submitted it, if I were you. </MODREVIEW>
  15. Also, I'd just like to mention that...Solarphonic Shock Waves is not available in the US, according to Spotify. Sad Flexstyle is sad.
  16. Let's see--on an initial listen-through, my only peeve so far is with the shaker. Just a bit loud and/or harsh. Other than that, and possibly the piano issue mentioned by someone earlier, I really can't find anything wrong. Love the vibe--it's a sweet mix!
  17. Very skillfully done VGM remix? Why yes, don't mind if I do download this one. Thanks for the heads up!
  18. If you want to have me help you take this in a Caravan Palace-esque direction, with very defined electronic elements, lemme know. I'd love to throw a house spin on this mix at some point if you're down!
  19. <MODREVIEW> Honestly, I really dig this. I'm a huge fan of this style of music, especially when paired with house (a la the new Electro-Swing stuff, Caravan Palace and the like). Just a couple of minor criticisms: - The finger sweeping noise (when you're changing chords) gets just a bit distracting at times. - Some of the longer notes with the clarinet (I assume) need a bit more articulation, if they're going to be held that long. They get just a wee bit stale after more than a half-note or so, I'd say. - A couple of the transitions, such as around 1:44 and 2:32 lack some energy. The beat stays very much the same throughout the entire track, and while that's not a bad thing per se, you could stand to add a few percussion fills and maybe a bit more excitement as the track progresses--just give the listener something to build upon. The mix sounds pretty decent to me, assuming you want the percussion to be so low in the mix. As an aesthetic choice, I think it works decently well. The train wind noise from the source tune is just a wee bit harsh, perhaps, but that's my only real nitpick. It's pretty good, really. I enjoyed myself thoroughly while listening, and I bet a bunch of other listeners will as well--the arrangement is pretty clever, and definitely has that "foot-tapping" quality to it. A bit more polish would really send you in the right direction, I think. </MODREVIEW>
  20. Bit hard to mod review this if you don't have a source tune around, too.
  21. I've sent you a private message, Firgof.
  22. My boss back at the recording studio I worked at in Nashville a few years ago swore by LaCie--wouldn't use any other brand, ever, end of story. I've personally had good luck with Iomega external devices for a long time, but I'm not entirely sure what they use as their underlying hardware in those things.
  23. Oh what. Moar free electronics stuff? I approve.
  24. Just to tide you guys over, I've included one of the bonus tracks off the album in my latest podcast. GET EXCITE. (also, search for the podcast in iTunes and subscribe to it, if that's your thing.)
