  1. Let's see--on an initial listen-through, my only peeve so far is with the shaker. Just a bit loud and/or harsh. Other than that, and possibly the piano issue mentioned by someone earlier, I really can't find anything wrong. Love the vibe--it's a sweet mix!
  2. Very skillfully done VGM remix? Why yes, don't mind if I do download this one. Thanks for the heads up!
  3. If you want to have me help you take this in a Caravan Palace-esque direction, with very defined electronic elements, lemme know. I'd love to throw a house spin on this mix at some point if you're down!
  4. <MODREVIEW> Honestly, I really dig this. I'm a huge fan of this style of music, especially when paired with house (a la the new Electro-Swing stuff, Caravan Palace and the like). Just a couple of minor criticisms: - The finger sweeping noise (when you're changing chords) gets just a bit distracting at times. - Some of the longer notes with the clarinet (I assume) need a bit more articulation, if they're going to be held that long. They get just a wee bit stale after more than a half-note or so, I'd say. - A couple of the transitions, such as around 1:44 and 2:32 lack some energy. The beat stays very much the same throughout the entire track, and while that's not a bad thing per se, you could stand to add a few percussion fills and maybe a bit more excitement as the track progresses--just give the listener something to build upon. The mix sounds pretty decent to me, assuming you want the percussion to be so low in the mix. As an aesthetic choice, I think it works decently well. The train wind noise from the source tune is just a wee bit harsh, perhaps, but that's my only real nitpick. It's pretty good, really. I enjoyed myself thoroughly while listening, and I bet a bunch of other listeners will as well--the arrangement is pretty clever, and definitely has that "foot-tapping" quality to it. A bit more polish would really send you in the right direction, I think. </MODREVIEW>
  5. Bit hard to mod review this if you don't have a source tune around, too.
  6. My boss back at the recording studio I worked at in Nashville a few years ago swore by LaCie--wouldn't use any other brand, ever, end of story. I've personally had good luck with Iomega external devices for a long time, but I'm not entirely sure what they use as their underlying hardware in those things.
  7. Just to tide you guys over, I've included one of the bonus tracks off the album in my latest podcast. GET EXCITE. (also, search for the podcast in iTunes and subscribe to it, if that's your thing.)
  8. and this is what happened: http://soundcloud.com/flexstyle/zircon-just-hold-on-flexstyles
  9. Bump, for great justice! C'mon, guys, I know finals are nearly here, which means you can definitely start thinking about entering this contest. Right?
  10. Got your email and replied to it last night, 4L. Just checking in to make sure you received it.
  11. Curse you, Jimmy! I was doing so well at saving money. Now I really want to buy the game. Must...resist....
  12. I do this all the time for tracks that I can't find a MIDI for. Saves me so much headache.
  13. Voted! You're tied for the lead now--c'mon, OCR, let's make this happen!
  14. Quite likely, depending on when they were actually recorded. Remember, I'm not talking about cassette tapes. I'm talking about big, massive reels of tape, the sort that gets used in recording studios all over the world to this day. Heck, I'd bounce some of my tracks to tape if I had the money. Sound is much warmer and has much more character than digital recording.
  15. Keep in mind that in the past, nearly everyone recorded to 2" tape. We didn't always have Pro Tools, y'know! A lot of artists still record this way even today. So, they could have recorded the tape at one speed, then played back at a slightly different speed when mixing, and then sent that mixed-down version to another tape for mastering, which was then played back at another speed . . . you get the picture.
  16. A guess off the top of my head would be that the tape used for mixdown was played back a little faster than it should have been when creating the digital master. That's just an educated guess, though.
  17. Meteo: I can't post on your wall (?!?) so I'll post here in answer to your question. Just head to my SoundCloud dropbox and share whatever it is you want to submit to me, making sure that it's at least 256kbps or higher. Of course, you'll want to include a note saying it's for the 'cast.

  18. New episode. Features A_Rival, Knife Party, halc, WillRock, The Foxglove Hunt, Shnabubula, and Radiowar. http://podcast.flexstylemusic.com/site/ep0015/
  19. Love it! This brings me some almost Beach Boys-y vibes, but also that Weezer lightheartedness as well. Love it, downloaded, and I'm definitely checking out the rest of the music from this crew!
