It was a pretty good event, and 50 launch window games?? Whoa, that's nothing to sneeze at. I'm probably going for the premium set, although I just hope that Nintendo Land comes in a proper case rather than one of those cardboard slips so I can display it properly. But the TVii thing confuses me. The Wii U doesn't have a port for cable tv, so how on earth does it know what channels you have available? other than that, it looks really cool, but if Nintendo is so set on making the Wii U your entertainment center (so you never have to switch inputs to the TV again) then why didn't they spend the extra $15 and just put in a DVD player? I mean COME ON.

3DS: Friend Codes on First Page, OMG THE THIRD DIMENSION
Overflow replied to The Damned's topic in General Discussion
Got the 3DS XL and NSMB 2 today. I really like the metallic blue of the XL, but I hope the stores around here get their act together and start selling screen protectors. I haven't played much of NSMB2, but so far it's pretty fun. Nothing revolutionary, but it is fun. Doing some tests with screen sizes and such, I turned on my 3DS on a DS game and set it to the 1:1 resolution. The image is tiny, but obviously, still very playable. It got me to thinking. Who else here would buy a DS Micro? I personally really like the Gameboy Micro, and I think the tiny screen makes the image really sharp, and it's so nice and compact. I would definitely enjoy a DS micro to carry around with me at all times to play some pokemon. -
OMG WHY DIDN'T I GET THIS GAME SOONER I just played through it for my first time, and dealt with several companions throughout, but most of them only last a little while. My symbol looked like two sets of wings. On the second last level I met with someone with a much shorter scarf and a more intricate dress, and their symbol was four "n" shapes. It was really emotional and touching trying to climb the mountain together and figure out how to hide from the wind and the monsters while always staying close for warmth. We stuck together till the very end, and I feel as though I made a connection with that person Sadly, it didn't list her in the list of gamers I played with, or at least I didn't see her symbol. I know this sounds cheesy but...is there any where like a forum to look for other people who played? I'm kind of interested in finding out what this person was like lol.

Haha I just got an android phone too, though I still need to update it to version 4 (it's version 2 atm ) it's a Sony Xperia Pro but I have yet to fully figure it out

Haha well then I don't play online anyway. I just don't think every game needs photorealistic graphics, and in fact, they can sometimes even be a detriment to the gameplay: if your realistic looking character can't manage to walk around a simple ledge or obstacle it can break the immersion.

I've heard the same things, and possibly read the same article but I have no idea where it is. It really does make a lot of sense: if game companies are spending billions to make their games due to the higher cost of better graphics, chances are they'll never make that money back. I really think games need to move more towards stylistic than photorealistic, similar to how Nintendo's been doing it. Besides, amazing games don't need the greatest graphics. They sure don't hurt, but really, Ocarina of Time on N64 is still a classic that looks great even today, and Wind Waker will always look amazing. And lest we forget the NES and SNES classics that are still fun and regarded by many to be the best games of all time. Besides, like someone else said, in a FPS you probably aren't going to admire the scenery much. Graphics need to be suited to the game. Metroid Prime, for instance, is a series that almost demands high-end visuals, since you move slowly, interact with the environment and explore the same areas over and over. In fact, I STILL discover new things on Tallon IV every time I play. A game like CoD however has you running through the levels, likely never to see them again, and like someone said, most gamers probably turn off all the fancy graphical features to improve framerates for online gaming. Point is, graphics don't really need to get all that much better anyways and need to be used as the gameplay dictates, rather than the other way around.

I wish the silver XL was coming to north america. That's the one I would have gotten. Instead I'll have to settle for red or blue. Maybe I'll wait until the silver comes out here... -

3DS: Friend Codes on First Page, OMG THE THIRD DIMENSION

The biggest issue for me - and I realize this is pretty trivial - is that I love the way the 3DS keeps count of your playtime for each title, and if I play the same game on a second system I lose that feature since I don't plan on transferring the system data. I'd have to add the playtimes from both systems together. Not to mention the online data is probably tied to the system, so I won't be able to play any online games on the XL. That said, I'm still going to buy the XL if for no other reason than to continue building my collection. I guess it will be really nice for home-play, and I'm interested in seeing how the 3D is supposedly better. Oh and I'm guessing you're not an ambassador, Mirby? -
Next Super Smash Bros. being co-developed by Namco Bandai

I've never considered Smash Bros to be a competitive game, at least not in the sense that that word is being used here. It actually really annoys me whenever I play against someone 'competitive': they refuse to play Brawl and the super finicky controls and twitchy gameplay of Melee just end up frustrating me and I just get upset while they wave-dash and edge-guard. I like Brawl more because it's slower paced and more focused on FUN rather than the competition. What's the point of playing Smash Bros if you're not going to use items or play on the fun stages? For that reason I have zero interest in Project M. Also Game and Watch is better in Brawl and he's awesome. -

I like Brawl better than Melee. -
You know the launch line-up for Wii U is actually pretty exciting now that I've gotten over the initial disappointment of E3. Lego City actually looks like a fun time (apparently there's a mini series on youtube...might be worth checking out). Pikmin 3 of course will be great, and even Nintendo Land should be fun. Then there's Scribblenauts, Rayman Legends and NSMBU. That's a pretty good line-up for launch.

Usually I go with the first color that any system was unveiled with: White DS Lite, Blue 3DS, red DSI XL etc, simply because I like that iconic color. But in this case the black wii u looks REALLY good...I have to think on it some more...

Why couldn't mario get this

Same here. I really hate that term, but I'm not sure what else to use. If you say Casual everyone assumes "Angry Birds, Draw Something" etc. If you say Retro then everyone assumes "NES, SNES" etc and that's it. I play any game I want to, from any system from any era. My favorites are Platformers, RPGs and puzzle games and though I'm not a fan of the standard FPS, I did quite enjoy Voyager Elite Force and CoD4. What kind of gamer does that make me? I vote we make up a new term to describe the person who plays any game. "Gamer."

Riiiight, because MICROSOFT and SONY make so many games. As far as I'm aware, out of all those games you mentioned for the PS3 and 360, the ONLY ones actually made by the console developer were the Uncharted games, and even those were only second party games. The others are all third party games, which are either multi platform and, in some cases, now coming to the WiiU. So, let's try this again: How many games has SONY or MICROSOFT made since 2006? Yeah, that's what I thought. Those 15-20 NINTENDO developed games don't look so paltry now, do they? As for Animal Crossing City Folk and Wii Music: I actually love both these games. I sunk over 140 hours into Animal Crossing, and I have a blast fooling around with the instruments in Wii Music and recording each instrument to a song separately to create the perfect cover. And, as I hope I have made clear, I am a pretty "hardcore" gamer. And really? You're making your purchases based on what everyone else likes? Your avatar is an Electroplankton. How many copies did that game sell, again? If you don't like the kind of games Nintendo is making anymore, that's fine. But you shouldn't refuse to support them because a bunch of other people dislike Nintendo. If you don't want to play Nintendo, then don't. I always was, am and always will be a NIntendo fan, and the Wii is one of my favorite consoles of all time. Not only does it have some of my favorite games of all time (Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy) but the wealth of First Party Nintendo games are top notch AND it has access to a wide selection of classic games, making it one of the most versatile gaming systems of all time. Are Nintendo or their games perfect? No, of course not, but they make the games that I want to play, and that is good enough reason for me to stay a Nintendo fan.

Pretty much this. See, with a PSVita or an XBOX, you aren't really sure what you're gonna get, besides probably a Halo, a CoD, a Wipeout and maybe a Ratchet and Clank and the two GoW series. Other than those - or if you aren't interested in those games - it's a crapshoot whether or not any games you want will come out for the system. But in the case of a Nintendo console, you know that there will be Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Pikmin, (probably) F-Zero, and in some cases multiple instalments of these series. You have a guarantee that these games will arrive at some time, and when they do they will, as they almost always have, become the some of the highest rated games of the year, if not all time. And honestly, with rare exception, I'm not really interested in the world of games on XBOX and Playstation. The style, graphics and gameplay of the core Nintendo franchises really, really appeal to me and are more fun and accessible to me than almost any third party/other console game I've ever played. I own the other systems but rarely turn them on. The only games I ever play on the PS3 or 360 are Captain America: Super Soldier and Red Dead Redemption.
-
I don't admit this, and I consider myself a pretty 'hardcore' gamer, as much as I hate that term (After all, I own over 25 systems and upwards of 400 games). I personally found their offering of First party games on Wii to be top notch. DKCR, Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Metroid Prime 3, Zelda Skyward Sword, Punch-out, etc.

It seems Nintendo tried to do the exact opposite of what they did with the 3DS, as in, present a ton of launch software that will be available at or soon after launch, rather than what software will come down the line. If you recall, some of the biggest games they announced for the 3DS were games like Mario Kart, Paper Mario and Kid Icarus, all games that came out long after release (or not yet even). And we all remember the drought of games after the 3DS launch. They have said they're trying to learn from their mistakes, so rather than tantalize us with the promise of a new Zelda, Metroid or F-Zero that will come in a few years like they did with the 3DS, they're trying to assure us of a strong launch line-up consisting of games like AC3, Batman, Aliens, NSMBU, Pikmin 3, ZombiU, NintendoLand, Rayman Legends, Lego City, Mass Effect 3, Darksiders 2, Scribblenauts and Tekken. Actually, when you group them all together like that, that's a pretty good launch line-up. Sure half of them are ports, but they'll be enhanced ports, and system launches often have ports of older games. Besides, it's better to get a good assortment of "hardcore" games ready for launch, even if they're older, rather than wait several months for any decent "hardcore" game because devs are still trying to figure out the new controller.
