Album Project: The Darkness and the Light (Tentative) - ReMixers ahoy!
Gario replied to Bahamut's topic in General Discussion
AHA! So it took you four days per FFIV track, then? I guess your human, after all . Hey, getting someone to push you is certainly a good thing - I'm afraid I don't have that kind of luck, so it sucks to be me . -

And that's why we hate you, as a community. No, really . Fine, I'm almost 80% sure I won't have anything for the project, with a 20% chance that I throw something together for it, at the last possible minute. There, it's a compromise, but the best I can do on such short notice. Happy, bLiNd? -

Hmm... I'm almost 100% sure I won't be able to produce anything musically for this album (already involved with too much, as it is), but I could perhaps see if I could coordinate something for an RPG - I'm trying to get some outside connections for that, anyway, for other purposes. When do you expect this project to be finished so I could have some idea of a time frame for this? -

Interesting idea... I hope you get at least some attention for this project. Will you set up an RPG to go along with it? -
Well, I'll be damned. That's some sick music for the NES, dude - someone needs to develop a famicom game just so they could get your music in there (just to see how it would work out ). I've gotta study the Youtube video that you have and see if I can even figure out what you did there... I agree completely.
-
Holy shit. Man, that would be amazing if this could actually have ever been on the good ol' NES (I don't think so, though - too many channels there ). That doesn't take away from how awesome it is on it's own, though - I think I'm sold on this one ...

Well, hey! Congratulations, DD! Like everyone else so far, I've had bare minimum contact with the guy (a single post in these forums, where he basically called me lame, lol), but I still appreciate what he's done for this site (and also appreciate why he hasn't done as much on this site lately ). Cheers!

SHNABUBULA HATES CHIPTUNES...thank you time magazine
Gario replied to Sam Ascher-Weiss's topic in General Discussion
"'Video Game Music' is a dying genre that deserves no attention...", say's DJP, "... only morons would go out of their way to rearrange and appreciate it." ... Really? Really? I frankly can't believe what they did to you, Sam. That 'quote' above is almost more believable than what they quoted for you. I would congratulate your spot in Time, but it's actually better not to be in that magazine than it is to be subject to blatant lies from them - people will actually believe Time more than they believe you. I still think their cover up edit was bullshit, as it still misrepresents your view on the subject (although not contradictory, anymore, at least). EDIT: Reading the article further, I found out that chiptune artists are not really musicians, nor are video game remixers... Do I even need to comment on that? Wait, where did she make that jump?! Musicians (from purists) think it's heresy, but man, video gamers think it's awesome... I guess we're not musicians, here, if we enjoy mixing video game music. What a hateful article - I'm sorry your name is even associated with it. I guess it's good for publicity, though - the best thing that could have ever happened for Stravinsky's 'Rite of Spring' is that a riot started during the premier performance, so I'm pretty sure this will boost your sales significantly, even if it is for the wrong reasons. -
Bionic Commando ReMixed: OK, We'll Groove - History
Gario replied to Brandon Strader's topic in Projects
Hell, this is Bionic Commando, we're talking about here - you all should look forward to signing up for it. Since more than one track of the same song is a possibility on this album, we should see more people joining in . -
Palpable/diotrans debut EP release: Flickerfall - Delayed Reaction
Gario replied to Palpable's topic in General Discussion
I missed this post yesterday, I guess... Nice work on the vocal / electronic combination - it fits your voice quite well, Diotrans. Damn, and I thought I was all special when you sang for my little track . Ah well, nice job, you two! -
OCR01893 - Mega Man 2 "Wily's Requiem"
Gario replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I remember this from the WIP forums, and since then I've been waiting for it to get on the damn front page. I'd tell you it's great, but you know what? You don't need me to stroke you ego any more than it already has been, so I'm not gonna say it . By the way, good work. -
Happy Birthday, 99... Too bad you can't get to lv. 100, due to system limitations. That's life, man - try to enjoy your birthday, regardless.

OCR01892 - Final Fantasy IV "Éminence Grise"
Gario replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Ah, one of my favorite songs from the album. Really, you guys did a great job on this one - the arrangement and the vocals meshed perfectly. I can't say much about it, except it's another example of OCR excellence that you both have graced us with . I'll personally smote anyone who disagrees (well, not really ). -
Nah, I already know I'll kick your ass, dude - don't fret (haha, pun). If there was a winner for this contest I'd so pwn you. Really, though - I'm hoping a lot of people get their stuff done for this, as it would be a damn shame if it had only a few entries, so good luck (and hope that your inspiration will come sooner rather than later).
-
I'm frankly surprised that no one has taken it on yet - the soundtrack was great stuff. Maybe it was a bit dense for most people to work through it? Shame, though.

B. Computer I'd say A. Consoles, but you know what? Once you get your games on the computer it all becomes so much more convenient, so I haven't used a console in ages...

LUFIA 2: WAVE MOTION [[Sinistral Battle Theme]]
Gario replied to Theophany's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I made do with the track you have with the whole mastering thing, so don't worry Speaking of which, here's what I did - you'll notice the sinistral section is much clearer than before, but the second section sounds terribly hot. I wasn't going for perfection, so you know... don't kill me . EQing, if done right, can make the track really stand out (like the sinistral portion of my track, for the most part)... while when it's done wrong (like at the end of my EQ'd track), it'll sound like complete crap. Of course, not every problem can be fixed with the EQ. You'll need to find a way to separate the sounds better before doing the mastering on this track - I think part of the solution should be done in the mixer, not the EQ or compressor. By the way, try to make the original track's volume as high as it can go without clipping before incorporating the compressor - it'll help give a nicer sound, in the end. That electronic bass really does need to be taken down a few notches, though - it'll allow you to turn up the rest of the track considerably. Your live instrument sounds are quite nice - did I mention that before? Hope this helps, and good luck with this -
LUFIA 2: WAVE MOTION [[Sinistral Battle Theme]]
Gario replied to Theophany's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Nice, sinistrals... and a bit of the ending, for good measure. Alright, to answer your questions... 1. Not right now - volume's too low and the file size is too high (over 6mbs). Beside that... 2. The strings are muddy - you'll need to seperate their sound from the electronic stuff you've got going there. The same can be said of the brass you've got going there, as well. Now, the electronic bass in there is far, far too loud - in fact, it's clipping more often than not. Look into balancing that better. 3. Zircon goes into some depth about your questions here. It sounds like you could use EQ in the individual tracks as well as the master track, but if you'd like I could send you a compressed, EQ's master version of your song, just to see what the difference is . Essentially, it could help your track be louder (compression) and clearer (EQ), but be careful not to overdo either (overcompression will cut the sound out when you don't want it to, and over EQing it generally can cause clipping if your not careful). Yeah, compression and EQing can help, so look into using those to help clean the track up. -
Looking for collaboration partner!!!!!!!!
Gario replied to dudemanscott's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
54/61 doesn't exist - the denominator must be numbered in powers of two. Just take my word for it . As for the suggestion, it's more to help keep the flow of the music rather than a simple label. Write the parts with that in mind and it'll flow better than if you simply 'wing it'. Good luck with it, like I said before . -

If it helps you can often classify 5/4 as a combination of 2/4 and 3/4 (which are both pretty common) when writing the parts. -
