Hell, that's nothing - my sister got an N64 game for 7 cents. It was some crappy wrestling game, but still - 7 cents. Of course, s&h was 2$, but that's still pretty amazing, hence why I don't emulate N64 games. They're just so cheap (except for Ogre Battle 64, but it was worth the 60$ getting it - the game is absolutely amazing).

Ha, I think that's a clinical addiction, buddy. The game I get random urges to play... X-com. I'll be sitting around doing something, and suddenly I'll have this urge to do a speedrun of X-com. It's a little disturbing, even if it is the most perfect game in existence.

Yeah, Stunt Island did that - it was the only way to get into the game... Wait, modern games? Modern games just aren't cool enough to incorporate manual trivia and quizzes .

I have an anthology book of the Mario comics (taking the 'best of the best' or something). Those are freaking weird. Damnit, the prestige is obviously still there, somewhat - what are we doing in this thread if the prestige wasn't there anymore? It just applies to the older games, is all.

My parents went to a library a few years ago and found an old Nintendo guide (I'll get the name of it later...) sitting in a 'take home for free' box, so they pulled it out and wrapped it up for my birthday two years ago. They certainly got a good laugh for it, but I read it out of shear scientific curiosity. It's funny that people would have payed about 30$ for that source of information (the information wasn't even that helpful)... shit, 21 years ago (1988 - Megaman 2 was considered 'brand new' in that guide). Wow, that makes me feel a bit old, the fact that I can remember those days, at all.

I don't care what people say - Silver Surfer was an amazingly awesome game. Hard as hell, but I finally beat it. Thank god the music was epic for that thing.

Well, if you need music quickly we (Rozo & I, and whoever else wants to write something for this) could share musical jobs. Obviously the in-game music would be great but writing title music wouldn't be bad, either. I'll just write something that can fit both criteria . What kind of game will it be? Is that picture from the game (thus the game is in a more abstract style)?

How much music do you need? I could whip something up for you, if you only need a song or two.

Oh yeah, you know what I'm talkin' about... My older brother actually got to the fourth level, back in the day, but after almost a year of investment he just said 'Fuck that shit!' and never touched the game again. I don't know if a legit run of that game is even humanly possible (I owned a strategy guide video tape - you all know what I'm talking about, right? - and it actually said the game was impossible without a slow motion controller... What the hell kind of strategy guide is that?!). I'm currently working on beating Contra without cheating (got to level 7 yesterday, woot), but I can assure you Battle Toads is on my list somewhere - someday I'll be able to make that claim. Thanks, I'll use that to alleviate my guilt.

Hey, that's the attitude you need to hold - you must not hold anyone in higher regards than yourself if you want to get ahead.No one should take offense in that. Don't write just to sound different, though - write to make good music, and if someone says your music sounds like someone else's, forget about it if it works well.

Nice name. I think this mix is cleaner than it was before. I still thing the drums are not too fitting, but let me be more specific - the snare is just too overpowering. The sample just stands too far out. Experiment with some rim shots or something instead - something that is lighter and not as dominating. The mix is pretty balanced, but it could use some fattening up, as it sounds a bit thin the way it's mastered. Generally, that means you could use a little boost in the mids - give it a shot. Try some of that out - and may the Neblixsa genre continue to grow...

Not bad at all, Artemis. I'm enjoying it, for what it is. It's quite difficult to use 'real' instruments in a mix, because it tends to be difficult to emulate a real sound without sounding fake. I'm afraid this mix does sound too fake, but hey, this is how we learn. Imagine your a classical guitar player - would you play the notes straight like that? Most people would tweak the dynamics (purposely or on accident) between every note, and they would be using more pitch bends and such. The same can be said with the other instruments (although I can't imagine a piano doing too many bends ). I noticed that the track certainly does have clipping, yet the volumes are quite low, as well. Often, when this is the case it's peaking in a very particular frequency range. I think there's too much 'low' EQ overall. Try tweaking the EQ for the tracks so they don't have quite as much bass and that might help bring the bars down below the red. Sorry, even though this is true I lol'd when I read it. It just looks weird when you talk about using your eyes to write music... It's true, though.

Ha, first remixes... I don't have my first midi remix, but I have something that's at least close to my first (I think it was my second or third) - don't worry, it's terrible (I think I wrote that about eight years ago). My first VG remix on Reason isn't actually too bad, but I had no clue what production was, at that time, so there are a lot of issues with that. Funny, though, that I joined this site right when I finished this mix because I was planning on submitting it (don't worry, I couldn't figure out how to submit things, at the time - by the time I did I realized that this song sucked too much and scrapped that idea). I've gotten better since then, though (I swear I'll get that popping yet - the mp3 compression screwed this song up a little bit). Funny my earliest and my latest Reason song are almost the exact same length.

Yeah well, that green bastard deserved it somehow... I'll justify it someday, 'cause if I don't I'll suffer from severe guilt for the rest of my days. If anyone really wants to know difficult, forget Battletoads. There are some really insanely difficult (and obscure) games out there that just don't get any attention. Look up the game Amagon, for example - insanely difficult (not for any of the right reasons, either). That is a game that will haunt me for the rest of my days, as I know I will never, ever be able to beat it. I shit you not, that game was insane. Seriously, what game gives you very limited bullets that don't reload at the end of a level or when you die? Messed up shit, right there...

Um, I don't care what songs you used, this mash-up is very tight. I love it a rather lot, like a crack baby loves crack before it ever even uses the substance itself. I'm a mash-up whore, I guess.

Hah, who didn't leave their games running? Nowadays electricity costs so much, though... I'm actually glad that part of gaming history is gone.

I have to say it's very aggravating watching my nephews play video games today and having them ask for help constantly (and if they don't get the help they just give up on the game entirely). I vow never to reveal that I actually could kick the crap out of the games that they play because I would then fall under the repressive stream of cries for help that my younger brother and sister must deal with, right now, but it is none-the-less really annoying watching them give something a try and tell me it can't be done, then give up. It wouldn't be so bad if they just stopped playing because of that, but they keep returning to the same games, play up to a hard part and give up. What the hell are we teaching the children, to give up when something is difficult?! They've gotten a little better about it, over time, but really - because other people can now simply play it for them there is no pleasure in the journey, anymore. Kids these days now only play to win - what's the fun of that?

Alright... well, with a sort of time table and availability of tracks and such I might be interested. I've been looking for an excuse to really touch up my orchestration technique, and this looks like a good opportunity. I don't know how much time I've got right now, but I may do something with this in a few weeks or a month. Who knows - I'll pm you about it if I remember and have a track .

Well, the good news is that the high EQ doesn't hurt my ears anymore . Unfortunately, the rhythm guitar still blends too well with the other instruments (aka it's too muddy ). Now that the general mastering is at a nice level you can tweek the individual tracks to separate them better from that rhythm guitar. I believe the whole master track could use a boost in volume, too, however you could do it (turning it down was a good idea, but I think you went a little too far with it ). The drums are pretty slick, though, now that I can hear em', and the shredding leads are really good when they're there. I don't know if this is too liberal or not, because I sort of recognize it throughout the whole thing in pieces (personally, I think it's within their range of acceptable material). I don't know if they'll be counting seconds for this one or not, but if you want to be safe, count how many seconds of recognizable source there is in there. If it's over 2:32 worth of source your pretty safe (that's about over 50% of the song, which is what good ol' Larry looks for). Is there any way you can compress the file down to the 6mb limit? The 12mbs make it difficult to download and listen to, atm - it takes too long to download . Besides, you'll need to take it down to that, anyway, so why not? I think it's getting much better.
