Diablo 2 1.13 Patch possibly as soon as next week! Join us!

Not in DPS... Seriously not in DPS. The other builds have their perks, but in raw damage the poison necros take the cake (especially with their lower resist combination). -

'Fraid not... I generally hang out in the westside, too - but for the sake of all you OCR peeps I made an east-side account. Yes, people die... that's the beauty of it all. I can't play without that risk - the game lost it's rush some time ago and was re-energized by the concept of actual risk involved. Admit it, when you get to low life a chill goes down your spine. You can't replace that in any way - that's true fear generated from a game. Play it on single player for some time - you'll die less and less, learning exactly how to survive longer and longer. The first loss is always the worst, however - if you can get back into the game after losing a char over lv50 then your a hardcore player. Try it before you go hatin'. Besides, weren't you one of the players yesterday? -
You my good sir is a hero amongst men! Seconded, here. That's just awesome.

[DnB]Kirby Superstar - "Dark Energy"
Gario replied to BlackPanther's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I'm afraid that I've got to agree with Snappleman, in this case - the mix screws with a very characteristic part of the source in the wrong way. I have nothing against screwing with a source in an unconventional way (hell, I've been accused of it before), but if you chose to do so, do it for a significant musical reason, not due to an inability to work with it. If your going to do a remix, please never use a midi score - transcribing the music takes more time, but it also gets you involved into the music in a way that using a midi score couldn't ever do. You'll be able to catch what you like (or don't like) about music easier (as you'll actually be rewriting it), thus giving you more opportunities for discovering remixing potential. If you can't transcribe it then that also is a good indicator that it may be a song that's too much for you to handle at this time - if that's the case I'd recommend putting it on hold for a while and coming back to it later. By the way, the beginning of the song is quite cool - the unresolving strings, the sound effects, etc. set the mood very, very well. After that, though, you take it somewhere that it should've gone (I have nothing against DnB, but standardizing the music to fit a 4/4 pattern doesn't work). Good luck! -
*WIP* - Mega Man 4: Dive Man Jazz Remix
Gario replied to SuperiorX's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
? PrototypeRaptor and I laid down the heat down there and scared him a little (all for the better, though; look what he's got now ). Besides, do you have any idea how often I said those ill fated words about my own remix? I'd say about 5 or 6 times...I was playing MM4 yesterday and gave Diveman a no powerup run for shits and giggles (my younger brother said he couldn't beat him so I had to try it out ); when the song started playing I thought to myself 'Man, I wonder if SuperiorX is still working no that song?'. I guess this answers my question . I can hear the stuff that you've improved on; in fact, it's so drastic that the parts that you didn't adjust sound completely terrible in contrast. That bass... it is so weak right now I can't physically hear it. I hear something that may be trying to be a bass, but at the moment it just distracts from the music. Turn it up a lot, please! Let me tell you that the function of the bass is to give the rest of the music a strong foundation to build the rest of their harmonic material from (especially in jazz), so that weakness ruins an otherwise great song, here. The piano has many of the issues as before (particularly the dynamics are too stark to sound natural - try making them more subtle), but of course you said you didn't touch them yet so I forgive you (for now). The space is filling up much better, this time around. The solo instruments still sound dry for the part, though - because they are the solo, the dry effects are much more salient than the other instruments. It's better, but it could use a touch more reverb, here. The instruments still quite unnatural - the sample quality is still glaring (not as bad as before, but still noticeable; the J's won't care if it 'improved', they'll only care about what they hear at the time of listening). The sound is a bit too straight for too much time, and the vibrato doesn't have any variation to it. I guess I'm strange about vibrato, but I do it manually using pitch bends. Modulation has a similar effect, but it really sounds like modulation over real vibrato. Try using pitch bends and vary how wide the vibrato is periodically, it'll really help with the realism (along with the proper reverb adjustments, it may get very close to a 'great' sound). So, how did you do your panning work? When it comes to obtaining a real sound panning shouldn't be about balancing the sound - it should be about emulating a real performance. Study the arrangement of a real big band set-up (what players would go where) and imagine placing a microphone in front of them all in the center. Pan according to where everyone should be (of course, don't make the panning extreme, +/-20 should be the limit, and that may even be pushing it for this type of song) - it helps emulate realism. I know an orchestra arrangement off the top of my head, but not big band - you'll just need to look it up (youtubing big band performances and observing their layout should work fine). It's sounding better - you really got much more variety going on in the instrumentation. Some more could be done to make it a little better, but I don't think it'll hurt your chances nearly as bad as it would've before so change (or don't change) to your discretion, there. Keep it up - it's getting closer, there! -

My, my - aren't we negative? No, we survived for 2 hours and quit for now. There were only three of us, though, so it wasn't nearly as fast of a run as yesterday was I'd say, we should do HC more often - if you want on the ladder that's the place to shoot for! Now that we've had some practice, does anyone have an idea as to what they'll be for the real reset? What class and what build are you planning on using to gain ladder dominance? It'll probably be a good idea to think about that one... I will probably play HC using a Wind Druid (nice for the elemental survivability and general ass-kickage)... Is anyone else planning on laddering in HC, or am I gonna be alone on that venture? Agreed - it's why I never turned back. You will not have experienced true terror, though, until you die at act 3 in hell difficulty with one... -

Sorry for the double-post. Bumping to let you now that the Hardcore run is happening at 4:20 today. Come now in channel OCR, or join us in the game oc pass remix. See ya there! -
I'm actively trying to get out of my pesky habit of only listening to mixes of games that I recognize and figured a mix by bLiNd would be a good place to start. Amazing. I haven't even finished listening to it and can already tell you it's amazing. Very, very catchy, and I noticed that it isn't conventional bLiNd, either (conventional bLiNd is good, too; it's just great to see him moving out of his own comfort zone). If you love electronic music, download now. If you don't like electronic music, download now and learn to love it - bLiNd will be your instructor.

Yup, the 'Wizard of Oz' SNES game was basically the same thing...
-
Ah, ripping off Walmart. I think everyone's done it, at least once... Many years ago my mother bought my older brother the 'Wizard of Oz' for the SNES... we were so disgusted that our cousin rewraped it and we traded the game for Yoshi's Island... I can't say you could get a better deal than that. Yes, it does... give me 138$ for it.

Don't worry, it's coming along quite nicely. It's about 2 minutes at the moment (and it isn't even finished). I just want to give you a hard time . Don't tempt me - I'll post the hammer theme from Donkey Kong for the PRC if I win next time (I've remixed that before and got about a minute out of it - pretty good at the time, if you ask me )... no I won't - that's too cruel.

Good, got one at least for a little while (Actually I probably won't be able to stay on for longer than two hours myself, so it works out pretty well). Ya, hardcore, so if you want to come don't die at those damn beetles! I'm glad the run went well, sorry I wasn't far enough to join you at the end! I'll be in the 'OCR' channel at around 4:15 today (+/- 5 minutes) and try to get the game started at 4:20 (yeah, 4:20). Remember, this is Hardcore Ladder, so the point of it is to avoid death (and get as far as we can as quickly as possible, of course). Make Hardcore Ladder characters if you want to join in! -

Alright, so who would be up for a HC run tomorrow? Wednesday, 4:15 Eastern, East coast server - I'll be in the OCR channel on Bnet. New chars on ladder (for practice, of course). Anyone up for that? -

For PvM, I find that Dentists (Bone-mancers using teeth as their primary skill) are quite viable, if played right. Jailers (Thorns / Bone Prison builds) are decent, but they are for more solo play (people don't like waiting for the bone prison to go down...). Not to say the good ol' skelly build isn't viable - in fact it's probably a little bit better than all these for PvM - there are viable alternatives, though (I got my HC pure bonermancer to Hell Act 3 before getting raped by some undead fetishes... I may have cried a little for that one ) Poison-mancers are excellent for PvM play as long as your online with other people (as those pesky immunities don't come into play as much, there). Golemancers, to be honest, are a gimmick - don't roll one for serious leveling. You need to be on an incredibly high level (and packed with summoning charms) in order for them to be viable. They're used to kill players outside of town without risk to yourself (If you get to that point, though, it's worth it for the 'lol, my clay golem just kicked you character's ass hard and you can't do nothin' about it!' factor. For all of these builds, though, utilize your curses well and you'll be ahead of the game. Personally, I prefer dentists, myself - I just wanted to help fill the role of 'damage absorber' for the run (that I couldn't make it to). Hey, if we really want a spot on the ladder we should be practicing for some HC runs rather than normal runs - they're much more exciting and the spots don't fill up nearly as fast, anyway . Anyone up for one tomorrow (4pm eastern)? -

Yup, Necros are the shit. I made a guy, but like I said, I won't be able to join you for about an hour, so I ran a skelly necro for an hour so I wouldn't be far behind. I may be able to pop into the chat channel for a few seconds when you all are starting but I'll need to leave for an hour after that. Looking foward to this - I haven't played with people in a while (and last time I did I was drunk as shit - beat normal hardcore in about 4 hours smashed with three other people, direct connection... it was epic). -

Thanks for the pass - you'll be seeing me there, don't worry! -
It took me a while to get around to it, but I've donated 20$ for you all. I learn a lot here (not to mention download all the stuff here), so I figure it's the least I can do.
-
A. The thing is, people complain when a game is 'too hard', so companies are encouraged to make things easier for this generation. Now games are easier . I guess actually working at something has lost it's appeal... In Alien Hominid it's called 'Thumb-sucker' mode

If you make the time at 3 PM (1 PM my time) I won't be able to join for an hour (I work until 2 PM). I'll just get my guy up to lv 9 or 10 so I can join you later. -
Har, it was the computer I was using (or the fact you re-uploaded the link ). Alright, listening to it now... May I say that you really know how to make a mix sound really clean? I mean damn, man - I'm pissed that I can't do something like this (yet ). It sounds a bit atmospheric, perhaps a bit too much so, for my tastes. I don't know if this would count as 'ambient' for the sake of OC standards, but it may cut it a bit close throughout (although it picks up at the end enough to make me happy). It's probably just me, though - I could use a little more sometimes (just try not to lose the open feel if you add some texture to some parts of it). I like it in general, though. It's got a vibe that makes it perfect to listen to if your working on something (other than music). It's got enough movement to (generally) keep my interest while not enough to distract me if I'm doing something else . I still think it's a touch too empty right now, at the moment. Keep it up!

Ha! Ironically due to the time shift (Mountain time, which means 4 PM is 2 PM for me ) I can join in with you for a little while. I'll probably use a Wind Druid if your patient with me (they're not very viable until lv 24...), otherwise I'll use a Fishymancer (Skeleton Necro). Let me know which. Sign me up - I'll see you tomorrow! -
Hey, nice remix, here. You know, I actually don't agree with introducing the source earlier, per se - I personally feel it adds to the interest of the whole thing - but I agree that you should finish it as soon as possible so we can get an idea of the scope of the whole thing. I'll put it to you this way - I subbed a song a few weeks ago that took about 1 1/2 minutes to get to the source (which is longer than your song, I think), but out of a 5 minute song it takes the bite out of saving the source, so it should be alright. If your writing a long song, holding the source until later is a fine idea. If this isn't going to be much longer then I'd introduce it sooner. I would recommend using textures and harmonies from later in the song in the beginning more, though - that way the intro will sound like it's leading to the source rather than just opening the song up from somewhere. It reminds me of UT a lot. That's a good thing. Is that fading effect on the harmonies intentional or is that clipping? I can't tell . Keep us informed - I want to hear this when it's done!
-
Welcome to the OC WIP boards. Giving this a go... I'm not feeling it, for more reasons than the chip-tune factor. I don't hear anything when the metal is being done (I listen to metal regularly, so it isn't that I have anything against metal...). It's a 'wall of sound', so to speak, but there isn't any variations made to the harmonies (which even the source does well enough) and nothing is really audible in there due to the fact that all of the instruments share the same aural space. The chip-tune is pretty good, though - just don't overuse your trump card, there. Balrog certainly has metal potential, but this won't work for OC. Like everyone else has said, bring in more arrangement material for the metal portions and clean up the soundscape (a lot) and you may have a contender. Huzzah!

Sorry, man; I'd love to comment and/or critique it but I can't download it. Nope, I tried that. The computer I'm on doesn't like that host, I guess. I didn't think that answer was worth a bump

... go shoot yourself in the face, and if you survive, get the damn game now. Go shock - you can always get the holy freeze aura from the NM Act 2 minion. Hey, let me know when you all get on - I frankly can't wait for that patch and a fresh ladder, and it'd be good to actually be able to play with people. I'll probably either make a Curse/Bone synergy Necro or Wind Druid, and I'll certainly be on the hardcore ladder, so if your doing HC, let me know, damnit! The common Diablo law (for me, at least) - if your too low of a level then you need to push foward - almost always better to level at the highest place you can handle (unless your under 55 and you beat NM Baal - then you won't be able to beat the game... happened to me once, lol).
