  1. Good, DNF can still hit that 33 year mark of production - Jesus was born, lived, died and rose from the dead (for those that believe it), changing the faith of a multitude of people before DNF could hit the shelves... I will wait patiently for that mark. After all, it only has 21 years to go - it's more than a third of the way there!
  2. Personally, I've been waiting for this remix for quite some time due to the title (it IS provoking, so it naturally perks people's interest). The title is perfect - provocative and get's my interest before even listening to the music, thus assuring that I (and I'm sure many others) will listen to it in the end (that's the goal of a title, by the way). That aside, I'm glad that you did this one. It brings OCR a lot of respect from me (not turning down something due to it's lack of traditional melodies/harmonies). Now, all artistic stuff aside, it IS oddly entertaining to listen to, despite the lack of melody. It sounds very African in it's use of drums. I really like African drum circles so I really enjoy this song. Nicely done!
  3. Hey, GLL, I didn't mention it in my voting but the singer really sounds like the vocalist who did the D2 Act 2 singing... I mean that as a compliment, really! Very exotic .
  4. Wait, how did you see his vote, Analoq? Isn't it supposed to be concealed until voting is over?
  5. Wait, someone who's working on the patch posted here?! Very fascinating... now hurry up and finish!
  6. So does this mean we only have a day to vote? I guess that's good (I hate waiting a week to find out who voted for whom, like at OHC and ORC ).
  7. Woa, could I have one of those? I'd totally look good in one .
  8. Thanks for the extention, Bundeslang. I've got mine up now, thanks to that. I really liked the source, by the way . Man, Prophecy, you should submit to the ORC - you know how to make a mean midi.
  9. Hey, if you want to submit try PM'ing or IRC with a judge (Zircon, BGC, DS, etc. - they probably would have more accurate advice about the whole thing than I would). I don't think the harmonies included count very well as 'source', but I could be wrong and it'd be a shame to hold you back because of a mistake in my judgement. Ask them about the source in the song. They would give you a straight answer on the subject.
  10. Hey, it obviously works, so I recommend you don't change it to fit OCR (other than making the strings louder - that'll just make it sound better ). There's more to music than OCR, that's for sure - just because this isn't an OCR song doesn't mean it isn't great. It did well at soundclick, that's certainly something to brag about .Of course, if you could get more source, that'd be great, too - but I understand the problems you'd have doing so... Maybe you can incorporate the source into the texture that you've got repeating throughout the song. It could work - it's at least worth a shot, if you want this to stand a chance on the panels. Nice, #2 there, huh? Great job! I'm glad you ego is too big to hurt... We should butt heads sometime - see who's ego would win out (I think I'd win, rawr... ). Edit: Now your #1 on the Electronica charts with this one. You beat them all! Be very afraid, everyone...
  11. With an extension I'll probably have something up here, too. Either way I'm going to get working on one now
  12. C'mon, guys - don't leave Will hangin' like this. Get something going for the poor guy! I've got something up for ya, I hope you like it . Edit: Thanks, everyone - three entrees isn't bad at all .
  13. I'd love to help and give critiques, but the link doesn't work. By the way, why do you zip your music? It's generally easier for the people to listen to your stuff if you post the Mp3 file on a music host such as these. Repost it and I'll try to give you feedback.
  14. Bitch smack? Wow, that seems a little extreme, doesn't it? Ah well, listening to the rendition you've got going here, it sounds like there is more source in there. It's not enough, still, but it's getting closer. I'd make the violin sound a little bit more prominent when it's in there - it gets a little drown in the mix, atm. Let me give a percentage of source you've got going in there... 1:43 - 2:25 (42 seconds), 3:41 - 4:51(I'm not sure that counts as source, but it IS related, so I'll give half credit... 35 seconds), 4:51 - 5:48 (57 seconds) That's a total of 2:14 of source in it (2:49 of source if I gave the 3:41 - 4:51 full credit), out of 6:34 of music. That comes out to roughly 34% of the music that has relevance to the source (~42% if I counted all 70 seconds from 3:41 - 4:51, but that's not exactly source - it's heavily related, though). It's closer, but still not enough to sway the J's on the source usage. Harmony usage generally doesn't count as the source, by the way, as I notice you have a lot of that to try to cover that aspect. This is a quote from LT (one of the J's for all the mixes that come through here)... This is about as far from the source that OCR lets people go - it was a close call, for them (I'm glad it made it through - it's a sweet song). Source isn't important everywhere - just here at OCR. I'm not telling you this won't pass because of any fault in the music, I'm simply saying that without the source being prominent in the music the J's will not pass it, even if they really like it (and I'm sure they'd love this - it's very well done). By the way, congratz on the #12 charts placement. It IS a very sweet mix and I personally enjoy it thoroughly, despite the lack of source.
  15. I think it sounds better than before with the improvisation bits - variety is the spice of life. Be careful with the sudden switches from one voice to multiple voices at a time, the volume spikes that result are nasty. Turn down the velocity for the notes a bit to compensate for it. The textures are still stale as they progress (although the drop off at 2:22 is quite effective), so try changing that stuff around as much as you can (more than you have, already). I think it's the texture that you've had playing since the beginning of the song that drags it down a bit - be willing to change the actual texture more than you do (not just the notes). Was that Battletoads I heard in the middle of that (2:21)? Wow, talk about underrepresented games, here - it meshes quite nicely with the MM2 music . It's nice, but I don't feel it's quite there, yet. Keep it up.
  16. I'm going to do this. There is nothing that you can do to stop me. Just get the sign-ups going and I'll join ya. Procrastination is my only enemy, and I vow to destroy him, as soon as I have the time .
  17. Well, if you hit an absolute brick wall on this song, try remixing another one. Sometimes working on other music will help generate ideas for this mix (especially since it encourages you to look at music from another vantagepoint). I wish you luck - musical blockages are never any fun.
  18. That's got to be one of the coolest terms for that ever. I guess all you can do is wait it out - I take it you like the music so listening to it a lot isn't really a bad thing. Eventually you'll get sick of it and be driven to listen to something else. It can take time, though, so be patient with it. I don't think it has any real psychological significance so don't worry about that. Your still normal (or at least as normal as you can be).
  19. Look at it this way, Rozo - your stuff generates interest even after it's been collecting dust for 3 months. That's gotta be a good thing, right? 2-23 : 5-15... Well, almost three months. I wonder when the judges will even get to this one - it isn't even on the panel yet. I'd give it another two months before it's through .
  20. Hmm... that IS an interesting request. I'd personally like to take a look at it (and it's time signature-shifting madness ), but I'm not sure I can, at the moment. We'll see . It's a great song, albiet difficult to remix.
  21. Wow. Just, wow. IGN really can't come up with anything interesting on their own, can they?
  22. I don't play DnD... I have, but I couldn't really get into it. However, my brother developed a whole tabletop game that really fucked with my mind (along with another brother of mine and a few friends - they agree with me completely). You had no say in your character - the game always started with the GM just disappearing from the game and everything starting with you sitting where you were... 'What do you want to do?'. The element that you were actually playing 'you', combined with his 'five second rule' (if an event was suddent or required a panicked response, he would count to five - if you didn't respond you did nothing) and his excellent sense of storytelling - it really would mess you up IRL for a few days... I haven't done anything like that in about six years, though - he got married and now has a life to worry about . Ah, good times, good times...
  23. IGN, always there to put things into perspective for us... http://games.ign.com/articles/981/981284p1.html I admit they do have a point this time, though.
  24. I don't believe you, Nekofrog. Prove it.
  25. Good lord, has anyone seen how many visits this James_the_Composer has gotten? Holy crap - he's only made something close to 5 posts yet probably has more visits than most people on this site... He's become the definition of what people shouldn't be, and everyone is curious! Great job there, James - your an OCR phenomenon!
