  1. I'd actually be happy for JUST it alone to crash... ...when it crashes, my entire computer shuts down. Seriously. I'm completely unsure of why. No messages, no warning, just BAM black screen. Also, for those of us who preordered, we can now start preloading (that is, downloading the game through Steam so that we can play as soon as Valve unlocks it).
  2. I like vertical sync...and anti-aliasing. I'm not a graphics whore by any means, but nothing breaks the immersion in a game more than realizing that the 'straight' lines on a building or something are all crazy ass jagged.
  3. Martian played for a time and there were a ton of people on. It looked like it died quickly, though. And I know this isn't the Left 4 Dead topic, but I feel I must ask you Zephyr: Why not? What about it didn't feel right to ya? Powerlord: I, too, absolutely hate their lack of servers. I swear, it's like there are 10 decent ones and 8 of them are unplayable due to lag.
  4. Mattoco, hey there. We played earlier and I had no idea you visited these forums, haha. I was actually going to post something about one of our runs (when the witch was literally on the last set of stairs up to the safe room), but I see I don't need to. And while I agree that Advanced is probably the right difficulty, I really do enjoy playing on Expert. Sure, I get my ass kicked, but it really makes me feel frantic about the fact that, holy shit, there are zombies coming up the hell right now. Run, run! Shoot 'em! Help, I'm down! Etc.
  5. I simply don't understand Valve. "Let's release this demo of a highly hyped/looked forward to game to the masses and then put out all of five servers. But, and here's the best part, let's make four of them REALLY suck." Guys, you knew it was going to be a hit. Why didn't you get ready for this more? To date, I've played more games hosted on my computer/internet than on any actual server. [Edit:] Also, as many others have pointed out, the system requirements are actually pretty obtainable. I think my computer (dual core 2GHz, 2GB RAM) runs it a little worse off than Half Life...a LITTLE worse off. Probably better off than it runs TF2, actually.
  6. I'm going to throw my vote to the 'yes' majority here. I've had Steam since my mate gave me an account with Counter Strike, Half Life and I quickly bought Half Life 2 shortly thereafter. The only problems I've ever had with it were when Valve was attempting to do something massive in terms of upgrades (the first few TF2 updates come to mind, along with Steam chat). Actually, that's not true. I've had one major problem outside of Valve's kindness, but that's because of my shitty OS, not Steam. Either way, my vote goes 'yes.'
  7. I thought it was a lot of fun. I'm glad we at least tried it, regardless of whether or not it becomes tradition. Also, I think the amount of people we had were just right. There's nothing wrong with 6 v 6, or however high it got.
  8. About the Watchman game: Apparently, it's NOT going to be based on the book, but based on a time before the book (a prequel, if you will). So...expect a lack-luster, probably souless brawler with a few characters you might recognize in it. I'm not too worried about it, as I'm sure most intelligent people will stay as far away from it as they possibly can.
  9. I will make an effort to drop in and play with everybody, assuming Martian and I are still invited.
  10. The problem, as I see it, with doing a server lock down for only OCR people is that there might not be enough people. :-/
  11. I know this isn't the place, but I simply can't help myself: Left 4 Dead is too fuckin' good.
  12. Man...Internet drama. I actually didn't play last night, sorry to everyone for that. Have a test today (in about 30 minutes, actually) that I needed to study for. Turns out, I probably shoulda played...as I'm going to get my ass kicked by the test anyways. :-/
  13. Either I'm having the weirdest form of deja vu ever (actually, I've never had deja vu. I've always wanted to, though), or duckyboy had posted something after Dyne. Look at this sig or something to that affect. Is there any reason it was deleted (baleeted, deltaco, Homestar, etc)? Oh, and to the Americans here: let's hear it for the new president! Huzzah!
  14. @ Bahamut, in response to your example: By the time BLU has pushed RED back that far (to the point of literally bombing the doors), they've already won. I honestly cannot think of a single time where they've been able to bomb the door and not won. Also, and this is dangerous I know, but I gotta agree with Atmuh here: sure, it's not technically a spawn door (and, TBH, there're other ways to get back to that point), but...it's still pretty dumb. So, it's not technically illegal, but still pissy. I'm not sure how you would ammend the rules to fix this (as, like Baha pointed out, it's not an uncommon scenario to have doors/areas like this), but...it probably needs to be fixed, or at least given some serious thought. Also, I'd like to propose that spawn camping of all kind (for an extended amount of time, mind you, not simply a Spy waiting for one kill at spawn) should be outlawed. Sure, there are plenty of ways to counter it (like I've stated before, I don't have a problem with sticky camping either), but...it seems like the general consensus is that it's not appreciated. The only people I see who are defending it are Bahamut and the rest of ZUZ.
  15. Was thinking the exact same thing, haha. Jolly good show, mate!(Bad form, Jack!)
  16. So, is that whole 'OCR Only' thing going down? If so, who all's invited?
  17. I'm trying to figure out what kind of game your girl's family would enjoy. If they're in it for the story, then they'd probably enjoy games that are more or less known for the story (Bioshock comes to mind). If they enjoyed FF7 due to the combat, you're going to be much harder pressed to find another game that they'll enjoy on the PC (barring FF8, of course). I guess you could always get an emulator and go with older games (FF6 has been mentioned and I will second it here). If they're in it for the epic-ness, games such as Baldur's Gate, Mass Effect, KOTOR, Oblivion, or Fable might do them good...but I don't see them being family oriented in any way. You could always just give them Half Life.
  18. Sensu...Sensai...you took my beans? Also, when the hell did you start playing?
  19. I'm going to second this: the reason I play on the OCR server is because I like the people, but that includes the ZUZ clan. And Bahamut, if you were serious about getting better, you would turn crits off. [Edit:] Also @ Bahamut: I didn't understand the second part of your post replying to mine (sorry), but the first part, about sticky spawn camping, was my misunderstanding. Sorry about that.
  20. I'm going to throw in a pair of shiny pennies on this. I don't think there's anything wrong with Uber Chaining. That's all fine and good, and no one should be punished for that at all as it is clearly just for fun. Along these same lines, no one should be punished for playing X class in Y way, ever. That being said...the server explicitly states that Spawn Camping is banned. Why? I dunno, it never really presents itself as much of a problem for me. But those are the rules that are, and we should play by them. I think it's safe to say ZUZ has been told quite a few times that this is against the rules. I'm not saying what should be done or hinting at what should happen, I'm just throwing that out there. @ atmuh, others: I've had a lot of fun playing with ZUZ. I have to disagree and say that they do talk, not as much as some people, but enough. I remember one time when it was 5 of us in the server, playing some awful map (I think it mighta been Fastlane) and we all had a pretty good time, dicking about and talking about it. (Oh, P.S. @ ZUZ: you guys picked up Reset? Nice find...he's really pretty good.)
  21. Played tonight for the first time in ~2.5 weeks. Had a lot of fun. Not too many people (and it REALLY dropped off after Goldrush), but still a lot of fun. Also: does Reset visit these boards? 'Cause...he's really good.
  22. @ PL: Of course! I get way to into it usually, so you'll just have to forgive my craziness/harshness. It's all out of love.
