  1. @ Powerlord: I think you're right. The problem with doing that is that I end up with an absolute ton of snapshots that I just don't really care about. Thanks for the tip, though.
  2. Oh snap, gonna have to keep a record of what my top defenses are from now on. ... ..um...I finished first on my team as Sniper once. No, twice! (Also, finals are done. Should be back home by tonight, so I'll likely be on for a looooooooong time tonight.)
  3. DAMN. Brushfire, your sig is awesome. Also, is there something up with the Steam servers? I can connect to OCR fine, but don't have access to Friends or extra items.
  4. Y'know, sometimes I feel like all I do is complain about my shitty ping... .... ....but my ping is really shitty. Until Tuesday, that is!
  5. Exactly. ...no, really, I'm being serious. There's literally nothing difficult about hitting ESC and Mute Players. That's another rule I've never really understood, although it makes more sense: micspamming effects the entire server until whoever is spamming feels like they should stop, while sticky camping lasts until someone is intelligent enough to play pyro. Or heavy. Or scout with bonk. Or... The beat goes on...the beat goes on.
  6. @ djpretzel: No, no teacher has said one way or another about 'The Red Wheelbarrow,' it's just my personal feelings for it. If it's meant to be solely about a red wheelbarrow that's glistening in the rain, then that's great. I suppose I subscribe to Frost's school of thought that poetry should 'mean' and not simply 'be.' 'The Red Wheelbarrow' doesn't offer any deeper meaning, in my mind, than the simple imagery. And I don't think so, but just to make sure, was that 'emo angst' comment aimed towards me? Felt a little hostility...just making sure that it's my imagination. /offtopic @Skummel Maske, Deathtank, most everyone: I feel that if you can past the admittedly horrible controls, the rest of the game is pretty enjoyable...unless you're not into the filling in the blank spots, which I can understand.
  7. Bleck, I appreciate the crusade against spawn camping...but it's really a non-issue. If you're being spawned camps by a demo, either a) go pyro and blow them away or go heavy and shoot them. Seriously, not hard.
  8. @Archaon: There's a difference between what the Path does and what you're describing, I feel. Some games are notoriously bad for simply putting you down and making you create a story both forwards and backwards and then giving it some symbolism...but I don't feel the Path does that. Or at least not in a bad way. It presents storyline, albeit shallow, and more or less pushes you in the direction it wants you to go while allowing you a little bit room to be creative and interpret. I absolutely despise games/literature that just kinda says stuff and expects you to fill in the gaps (Elliot's _Paradise Lost_, shitty poetry like William Carlos William's 'The Red Wheelbarrow,' Joyce's _Ulysses_, etc)...but I don't think I'd put The Path in that category. Tale of Tales other games, specifically The Endless Forest, would definitely go there, though. Then again, you could agree with me completely and still see The Path as too vague, which is completely cool; I guess I just like games that leave a little wiggle room. [Edit:] @NativeJovian: Thanks for suggesting white to me. I cannot believe I didn't automatically think 'white.'
  9. Damn. People are mean. As has been stated, you're preloading Left 4 Dead. It's free to play for today only (I think, I could be wrong). Portal: What does the error say? Is it just a crash, or what? What OS are you using? There are tons of things that could be going down here, you'll have to give a bit more info. Regardless, try deleting and reinstalling. HL2: My HL2 does this from time to time; I think it's due to the fact that I'm on Vista x64. When you start the game, like before you can even choose 'New Game' or any of that, does it say 64 mode active or something like that on the top of the screen?
  10. @ EdgeCrusher: Sorry to hear that she didn't like it. @ Dr.Flintlock: You're right. The instructions tell you to stay on the path, but if you do that you lose (or, the game says you do). The only way to win is to go off and find the wolf, which is different for everyone. The wolf does not equal rape SPOILERS SPOILERS (for the majority of the characters; only one, possibly two could be taken as rape) SPOILERS /SPOILERS but it does mean you win...at least, according to the game.
  11. I'd be interested in that Family Photo, but the only two classes that I'm decent with are Pyro and Spy...and it looks like they're taken. Which is cool. I can sit it out if it's necessary. And ducky, you forgot the best two things about pyro: the airblast and the axetinguisher. Light someone up, airblast, follow in with axe is an instant kill (unless it's a heavy, which means you'll have to light someone up for a full second before the airblast/axe). Pyros are so easy to play...and yet there are very few people who play them correctly.
  12. @ Dr.Flintlock: It's not about getting raped. You play one of seven girls and you're only given the instructions to 'go to grandmothers' and 'STAY ON THE PATH!' I bought it, played it, showed it to the girlfriend (who's very anti-games) and she loved it and is going to buy it as well. We 'beat' it together and neither one of us is really sure what it was intended to tell us. We've tried talking it out, but we both took such different experiences from it that it's kinda difficult, TBH. It's a very artsy game that's meant to 'mean' and not to 'be,' the opposite of many games today. That being said, I'm not sure what it's about. The guys over at Joystiq summed it up nicely: it's like getting punched in the nose by a centaur. At first it hurts, but then you get to spend a while trying to figure out what the fuck just happened. Definitely worth your money, though. [Edit:] Deleted spoilers as there are no tags for it. [Edit 2:] I could go on and on about this game...so if anyone wants to ask questions about whatever, I'm willing to answer.
  13. I was referring to defensive engineers. But after thinking about it for a bit, I'm not sure I mean it. I'm just saying I could see some people arguing that it's lower than other classes and that it's in reach.
  14. durrrrrrrr Woah, stop. You're getting to me. I didn't mean to sound whiney....but what was me.Y'know how sometimes when you minimize (or just because, haha) the game'll mess up and show someone swimming instead of walking, turn weapons into other weapons, etc? Well, sometimes the guy turns invisible. Last night it was Seldon. Unknown to me, it's easily fixed. If you type, in console, 'record DEMO' where DEMO is the name of the demo, it fixes the problem. That's what that was all about (thanks to Baha and Seldon for the fix). This has already been talked about to death, but I figured I'd chime.I think that this sentence and Rambo have it spot on: some classes (Pyro and Engineer spring to mind) are easier than others (Sniper, Spy) for a completely new guy to pick up. But, just because you're successful with a class doesn't mean you're good which is exactly what Bleck said. The skill ceiling is high for most classes (Engineer is the only exception here, me thinks). I think the difference is pretty obvious between a decent Pyro and one who buys into the whole W+M1 strategy. Same between Bahamut and newsoldier123. [Edit:] Sorry, this is longer than I wanted it to be. Apparently I _really_ don't wanna study for my exams.
  15. Haha, Chadly, jeah, I think that was me. Wasn't pissed, just thought it was a pretty crazy chain of events. I think that was the third or so time I had gone up there. Before that, I had run into a recently teleported in pyro who caught me on fire so I figured I was dead, but you guys let me stand up there for quite a bit of time before I died. And yes, Rambo spy checking a pyro fresh outta spawn is hilarious. So good.
  16. Oh, wow. Forgot tonight was custom maps night. Assuming the great God of College Internet allows, I'll probably be on quite a bit (my last class was today). @ Rambo: You are the only person who's paranoia doesn't bug me. Some people literally jump around the levels in circles. While this is a good strategy, it's highly aggravating. You, though, just get CRAZY PARANOID and start attacking air before I'm anywhere near you. Seriously man, last night we were on Goldrush and I had almost made it to that upstairs sniper area before the first point and before I'm even there, you're yelling at Tiddlywink about how he's going to die because there's a spy around. Needless to say, I laughed for a looooooooooooooooong time. <3s
  17. We're glad to see you on the better version, Jovian. Or, at least some of us are. And I'm going to like playing against you if you hate spies. People who despise spies (PUNNY) are my favorite...unless they go pyro and just chase me all over the place with no regards to their own life.
  18. @ linkspast: Just join in. I think we're probably amongst the most helpful group of people to play with, as we're not dicks to new people. @ Bahamut: I'd be okay with it...the problem is just that there are so few people who consistently get on. Also, the password needs to be better broadcasted.
  19. Absolutely A, harder than more modern games. Why, though, is up to speculation. As most have pointed out, things were much less refined back then and the hobby was less widespread. Nowadays, there aren't games as hard as Battletoads because, first, it's too damn hard and secondly because modern games are better play tested, which leads to some difficulty being toned down, whether it be simply because it's too hard or because of bugs.
  20. I was psyched before but now... Damn. That's all I can say.
  21. @ Bahamut: The problem with resetting the stats is that this 'problem' continues to arise. People who play a lot will always rise to the top. The reason I write 'problem' is because I'm not sure it's that a big of a deal. The people who pay attention to it all are likely the ones who play a bunch and the people who play just for fun don't likely care very much about it. I think what most people are interested in is how many times X person kills Y person with Z weapon, and what X person's kill to death ratio is. And by most people...I mean me mostly. I seem to recall other people saying/thinking along these lines but I cannot remember who nor can I dig up any previous posts to augment this line of thinking.
  22. The most interesting part is that part about the backpack and the ability to delete items permanently. Makes me think there are going to be some non-class-specific items. Grenades come to mind.
  23. @ bonzai!: Pretty much every single day, we'll have at least one person ask Rambo what happened to you. Then he responds in a hilarious way.
  24. I prefer pacman normal. Party makes it too obvious when the ghosts are coming and the annoying is either hilarious...for about 30 seconds or awful the entire time. That being said, they're both a ton of fun. I _really_ like Swift. That and the one with the tug-of-war style cart...they're a lot of fun.
