  1. I've had it for about a week now. Before playing golden shooters such as Halo, Gears, and Mass Effect, this would have been awesome. It's not bad, though. Good things: The unique elements such as the Jetpack, Super-sprint, burn-in spawning, on-call assistance (turrets and tanks and such) and customized loadouts (your weapons and gear) are done pretty well and do add a fair amount of fun and opportunities for strategy. Nothing is quite as satisfying as killing an enemy by dropping on him from the sky. Bad things: The campaign is a JOKE. This game was not in any way intended for those who expect to spend a fair amount of time in single-player mode. The story is nonexistant, and the voice-acting will make you cringe. I beat it on hard difficulty in just a few hours. The multi-player is fun but can get repetitive due to the limited play modes. It seems like people are going to have to tweak the rules amongst themselves to get more out of it.
  2. Okay, I must say I'm intrigued after watching some videos and reading some testimonials, but I am still having trouble believing there are THAT MANY words and objects stored in this game. Has no one stumped the game yet? I mean, chloroform? Seriously? How about Zoloft to take away the guards' aggression?
  3. Yeah, I was thinking rock for the Character March as well. The Water Ruins would be awesome as nearly anything (besides jazz.) Does no one else like Abduction as much as I do? It's the song that plays when you beam up in Mizar's Pyramid.
  4. Seconded. Dark Cloud 1 and 2 need some coverage.
  5. Well, as soon as you have the opportunity/desire to get a mature rated game, Bioshock is a must-have. There are very few games out there that immerse you so entirely in an environment (no pun intended, as you're underwater the whole time.) It is definitely a very gory game though, so be prepared. You WILL see mutilated bodies around almost every corner.
  6. There is not a single Jet Force Gemini remix on this entire site. This is so wrong. There are at least three tracks from this game that could produce stellar remixes; unfortunately, the best one (IMO) I cannot find on the web in ready-to-listen format. So, here are the other two I have in mind: Water Ruins/Lost Mine (Gets really good at 1:25) Character March If you want to hear the best one (Abduction) or need the other two in MP3 format, let me know, as I have all three.
  7. There's also a very important factor to consider when gauging new games against old ones: nostalgia. NOTHING transports you back to certain memories like video games; the only important senses they are missing are smell and taste (unless you count the smell of adrenaline and the taste of sweat when you finally reach the last level on hard difficulty for the first time.) This is exactly why I still love and regularly play some classics, and can't get into others because I never played them as a kid (Chrono Trigger, for example. Bought it for the DS a few months ago. I could see why people marveled at it back then, but as a "modern" gamer it didn't hold my attention.) After playing masterpieces like Mass Effect, Bioshock, Gears of War, etc., older games don't have a prayer unless I grew up on them.
  8. Preordered already? What sold you on it so much? The only thing I saw that was top-of-the-line were the graphics, though to be fair the trailers don't show a whole lot of gameplay.
  9. Been looking for upcoming PS3 RPG's now that I've decided on the console (platformers and shooters are relatively in abundance). Anyone heard of Demon's Souls? It looks pretty good but I'm getting kind of turned off by the amount of people saying it's so hard you may have to replay some parts dozens of times. I want a game to be challenging, but I don't want to have to start a specific supplement regimen aimed at keeping my blood pressure down because a game royally pisses me off.
  10. Mega Man would out-bomb the Mario Bros. movie; it would be unrecognizable. Metroid or Zelda would have the best chance of representing itself well, and are also the choices I would most like to see.
  11. The similar gaming styles is one reason I chose the PS3. I believe you're 100% accurate in saying the experiences between the 360 and PS3 are similar, just with different titles, but that's a good thing to me. If it were not for MGS4, God of War III and R&C Future I would probably have chosen the Wii and taken you up on several of the games you listed, but these exclusives are games I refuse to miss.
  12. It'd be great to have both. Another reason I picked the PS3: when I compared the lists, I felt that the PS3 exclusives had much more replay value, a very big factor to me. After holding out this long for a decent price drop, I'll be IRATE if they drop it right after I buy. Which they probably will after this holiday season with all the people screaming for Sony's blood, because they have refused to really drop it yet.
  13. I do appreciate the warning. You obviously have the best interest of my credit card at heart. To others the Wii may indeed be a twenty or thirty game investment, but after looking at the lineups and hearing about some other unknowns here, I would only be buying a handful that would suit my taste. You may be right in the Wii having a much more promising future for the masses, but even in that case I would be buying ten or more out of the few PS3 games while only buying MAYBE five or six out of the hundreds of Wii games.
  14. Will do, though I think I am going to wait until the holiday season to see what other bundles are offered. That will also give me a chance to save a little more so I don't get stretched too thin. (Textbooks are expensive as hell.) Bahamut: Just out of curiosity, why would you have said the Wii is a better investment?
  15. I appreciate all the responses, guys. And seph, much thanks for the PS3 list. I've been doing a good amount of research, and I believe I have come to a conclusion. And the winner is... PS3. Wireless, Blu-ray, and from what I can tell more of a potential future than the Wii. The Wii does have a lot to offer, but after looking at its current and future lineup I would feel like I'm spending the $250 just to match it with buying four or five games. I can see myself getting much more value out of the PS3, and the Best Buy bundle is a killer deal. Thanks to everyone who posted, especially Neko and seph for their detailed lists. When you hear from me again I will be somewhat broker, but hopefully happier in spite of it.
  16. That's an interesting format. Very good writing. The mark of a good story-teller is varied diction and proper cadence. The mark of a great story-teller is when I have to go back and look for that kind of stuff, because I read the whole post without realizing I was reading it. And by the way, I don't think I will ever play that game. Ever.
  17. Oh, I would definitely agree, but some people have told me that while MGS4 is awesome, Ratchet and Clank is the best PS3 game so far. I didn't say I agreed with them, but I've heard it from more than one source.
  18. Your list was great, and it would be nice to see a comparable PS3 list (if anyone feels up to it, though Neko's was pretty massive). And I forgot earlier: I have heard more than one source say Ratchet and Clank is THE reason to get a PS3, kind of like Galaxy and Wii. Any truth to this?
  19. Point conceded. But I haven't seen anyone say something like "Dude, BLANK is terrible, just look at how many more games BLANK has to offer." There have been lots of pros and cons, but really no definite "pick this one" statements. I might just have to flip a coin.
  20. It's actually getting harder to decide... Not counting Mario and Metroid, are there any other Wii games coming soon that will be blockbusters? Has anyone played The Conduit? Is it as awesome as the promotions make it sound?
  21. Wow, thanks for the time investment in your posts, guys. That gives me a lot to look at and consider. Completely forgot about Metroid Primes. How do they compare to other popular shooters? Darkesword: I do have enough for either, but if I get the PS3 I'll need to be ECSTATIC about it in order for it to take my mind off the brutal murder of the cushion I had built into my checking account.
  22. Now that it's been "confirmed" that MGS4 will not be ported to the 360, I'd have to say the scales are still slightly tilted toward the PS3. I just have a feeling that the Wii may have already played its trump cards (such as Galaxy, Zelda and a newly announced New Super Mario), whereas the PS3 could potentially have A LOT up its sleeve with its predecessor's success. Thoughts? And another variable: Who will be the first to jump to next-gen? I would think Nintendo, but I'd be interested to hear other opinions. P.S. Galaxy alone worth the Wii? Really? I never heard such high praise for it before.
  23. Whoa, hold up. The 360 is getting Metal Gear? As in a port of MGS4 or a completely new one? This would drastically change the equation.
  24. Well, a lot of the problem does lie in which exclusives I want. I'm dying to get MGS4 and God of War III for the PS3, and some Resistance would be nice too. But for Wii there's SMB Galaxy 1 and 2, SSB Brawl, and possibly Twilight Princess. I guess the most accurate way to put this is: if the PS3 and the Wii were the same price, I would get the PS3. But the PS3 is currently (I think) $150 more, and as Dhsu already mentioned, it's hard to find a model that is backwards compatable. (Not a huge issue, but nice nonetheless.) Does anyone know if the PS3 library is going to explode one day like it did for PS2? That would be a big factor. How about other exclusive RPG's?
  25. Alright, I need some help from the Sony and Nintendo fans. Just realized I've gotten ahead in my finances so it's time to treat myself. I'm going to buy a new console (I already own a 360), and I need to know which is the better buy. I'm leaning toward the PS3 but the Wii is so much cheaper I wonder if I might get more play value out of it. But then there's the Blu-ray...it's a difficult choice. Here's my library of 360 games for comparison. Which road is the right road? Halo 3 Halo Wars Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts Bioshock Time-Shift Mass Effect Gears of War 1 and 2 Fable II I'm not all about shooters, I like RPG's, platformers and some fighting games too.
