  1. What you've done with this tiny source is really incredible. I love it. It sounds great as is, but I do think recording a live guitar would be worth the effort.
  2. What I'm really liking is how much the instruments get switched up just for tiny sections. The back and forth of the soft and brass near the beginning is really invigorating. It feels like I'm flying through the song and there's a wide cast of characters popping in and out. The World 1-2 section is neat but the energy drops a bit. Maybe the "echo" could be a bit more creative with the source, like some kind of tune dance-off in the middle of the song. I dunno. Something to keep that section from being so much of a break from the flow. The drums don't bug me any more, although I didn't pay much attention to them. That's good though. It means they didn't stick out in a bad way. Whatever you've done worked. Anyway, my advice is rarely seconded by other listeners, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, but I hope I'm helpful in some way.
  3. You've got a really cool arrangement here. I'm digging it. I've been waiting for a good Frantic Factory mix and mashing it with the factory theme from DKC worked very well. My main problem with it? It's not as intense as it should be. I feel this mix should be a bit more... menacing. It's a bit too easy going. Maybe you could add industrial sounds- smashing, steam, clangs, chains, etc. That is, of course, only if you want to go that route. I definitely think it needs to go further along SOME route, though. Intense may not be what you want to do, but right now it's too non-committal for me. Pick something and go for it. BTW, when I write critiques like this, I often feel I'm not making any sense. I'm also kind of tripping on cough medicine, so please feel free to ignore me.
  4. This newest version is really good. After 3:00, it's superb. It actually made me smile and snapped me out of my three-day depression. Thanks.
  5. You're on the right track. I'd have it progress a little bit faster. Personally, I've gotten sick of what's going on by the time it gets changed up. The samples around 3:40 sound pretty fake, and I liked what you did with the tune in this little section better in the first version. I like the bells, but maybe... more of them? Keep it up.
  6. Well, I got 200% the other day. Now I miss it. There's still Time Attack that I could do, but it doesn't get you anything. GREAT game. I hope Donkey Kong Country 2 Returns is on the way.
  7. I currently have 119%. Still got a lot to do. This game has a hell of a lot of replay value.
  8. I stumbled upon some samples of music from the game. You can listen to them here. Thought you folks would be interested.
  9. My optimism for this project has all but died. Nobody seems to care anymore I mean, isn't Dave Wise in on this? Doesn't that motivate anybody to, ya know, finish what they committed to?
  10. I just realized this should probably be in Off-Topic. I apologize for that.
  11. Hello. I am afflicted by Cystic Fibrosis, a terrible disease that primarily affects the respiratory and digestive systems. Every year, we raise money to find a cure leading up to Great Strides, a CF walk. The walk is in on October 9th, so from now until then, QuipTracks will be donating any and all money we earn to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. "What the hell is a QuipTrack", you are probably asking. Allow me to explain: QuipTracks are mp3 commentary tracks that make fun of and add lines to ridiculous, inane, asinine, insipid, uncouth, or otherwise unpleasant movies. If you've seen Mystery Science Theater 3000, you know the concept. So this whole deal is a win win for you, since you get to help a worthy cause AND enjoy some QuipTracks. Cystic Fibrosis fills the lungs and pancreas with sticky mucus, slowly killing the lungs and hindering digestion. Those afflicted must spend hours every day inhaling medication and attempting to cough mucus out of the lungs so they can breath. They also need to take a myriad of pills with every meal so that food will digest. The average life expectancy is around 40, but that number is constantly rising as breakthroughs are made with donations from people like you, so please spend at least a couple bucks on a QuipTrack this month to help extend my life. Thank you! QuipTracks.com PS. Obviously, I don't have a very large presence in this community, so it's entirely likely that you think this is a scam and that we'll never give anything to CFF. I originally posted this on a message board more familiar with QuipTracks that we've built up some trust with. If nobody here believes me, that's OK and I totally understand.
  12. He said they'd be the last in the console's lifetime, not period.
  13. But that's like saying Master Chief is better than the other long wolves because HE has green armor. I personally just don't care if she's a woman. That simple fact doesn't make her better. If she's shallow, she's shallow. But no, nobody here is going to change eachother's minds. I am disappointed by the backlash, as I feel it may discourage the creators from continuing on a path they're passionate about and that I really like, but you're obviously entitled to your opinions.
  14. Wow. I don't even need to say anything, do I?
  15. I'm not sure this really applies to a game that's such an obvious departure from what the fans are used to. If they just wanted to cash in, I think they'd have made the same game that was a huge hit in the past instead of taking such a big risk.
  16. Well, this isn't a routine battle with Ridley. He's supposed to be dead. It's a shock. And even if it was a normal, that's just how PTSD works. You never know when it will be triggered. You freeze up. No matter how many times you face it, it won't go away. And no, Sakamoto didn't make her "more of a woman", he made her more of a human. Everybody has weaknesses. It has nothing to do with gender. And no, staying consistent to the manga is not a slap in the face to the fans. It's quite the opposite. If he'd ignored the established backstory, THAT would be a slap in the face to the fans. This is who Samus is and she's been this way for eight years at least. Sorry you didn't know. And so what if he did change her? She didn't have any character. She was boring. I have no idea why she would be your favorite gaming icon. She was even more worthless a character of fiction than Master Chief.
  17. I agree completely with you. That middle section of Metroid fans think they're more hardcore than they are. Her reaction totally makes sense with the manga. She even has that panic attack when she thinks Ridley will kill all the Chozo. Now she thinks he's finally dead along with all the horror he's caused her, and here he is again, in perfect health. Plus, she clearly has PTSD, which functions just like this. The authorizing thing I thought would be really stupid, but I think it worked for the most part just fine. The only part that seemed dumb was when you had to go through the heat for a while until you were authorized to not burn to death. Gameplay wise, I loved it. The auto-aim wasn't because they didn't use a nunchuk. It was imperative in 3D space. Plus, you've got enemies in the air and on the walls. How the hell would that work? And it didn't make it easy, either. I died a lot; much much more than I've died in a game for a looooong time. Only issues I had were the scanning sections, which were totally unintuitive, and the fact that it was over so quickly. I still have a lot to collect, but still...
  18. Woah, this is cool. I'm excited for this track, but I don't think it's quite ready yet. I agree with Gario about it feeling too mechanical overall. Work on giving it a human feel to it and it'll turn out really nicely. I never really believed they were real instruments. If you can fix that, this is going to rock hard.
  19. Nice. You've preserved that weird Earthbound vibe while also making it your own. Several parts made me smile. Great all around.
  20. Hey, Neblix... Tydin didn't make this song. He was complimenting it, not gloating.
