  1. In those, you don't even need to jump. >.< Taking a leap of faith and landing perfectly on a Necky is one of the little joys in life.
  2. There are more good vocal mixes than Permutation. I generally don't like vocal tracks either, but I think everything with PixieTricks is great.
  3. DKC2 is probably a better game than DKC, but I prefer the original because I like the mundane enemies better than the pirate ones. Also, in DKC and you can pretty much just hold right on the d-pad through the whole game and jump at the right moments.
  4. ... There was a sequel to Total Annihilation?? TA is one of my favorite games of all time.
  5. Thank you for commenting! Yes, I noticed that the rain sounded like a bad recording, especially if you don't know it's rain. I'm considering just trying to get a better recording that sounds more distinct. The humming is in the 2nd version, just turned down because I didn't think it was very good. We have some mics and a mixer set up for my job recording audio commentaries. I just played in front of it. I didn't mess with the mixer because I'm not the one who knows how to use it. Oh I'm glad you listened to that one as well! I've had a uke for something like eight years but I really just started playing it frequently a year or two ago. It should be noted that Bard Owl is heavily layered, so it's probably not even as impressive as it sounds. Thank you for the advice. I didn't expect a proponent of the humming. I'll probably have another go at it at some point.
  6. Even though nobody seems to care about this board, I'm posting my newest song. The other night an owl started hooting outside my window. I didn't know what it was at first because it was such a strange, rhythmic call. I looked around online and found it - a barred owl. The owl's call was stuck in my head and this little song is the result. If you listen, please let me know what you think.
  7. Did you mean to direct this at someone else? Because I don't know what you're referring to. I just said not to change the piano. Or are you saying that that's a quirk of yours?
  8. I greatly enjoyed this. My brother's an 8-bit nut so I'm sure he'll love it too. It's a shame more people haven't commented about this.
  9. Hello, everybody. I wrote this little song today on my ukulele. I've been watching Mushi-shi and it's influence is pretty obvious. It's nothing impressive and pales in comparison to most stuff you find on here, but I think it's nice in its own simple, peaceful way. Enjoy. ^__^ UPDATE: Even though I don't think anybody has listened to the original yet, I have made some changes. It hit me that this song is about the arrival of spring, and I decided that maybe I should put the song over the sounds of a spring shower, which just happened to be going on outside my window. I think it works. Let me know which version you prefer.
  10. I'm torn about this. The arrangement is good. The rhythm is very catchy. But the lyrics... I wish he had gotten some help with them. I just can't take it seriously. I'll be cringing at every listen. "Got my fairy in a jar, keepin' death afar" is not good. Also, the lyrics had nothing to do with the story of the game, but after a while I just figured he knew that and didn't care. So it's a really good listen if you don't really listen to the words. EDIT: I should mention that the female vocalist is very good. I'd like to hear more from her. The male lead has a good voice as well.
  11. I've gotta say, I'm a fan of the piano. It's plain, and that contrasts really nicely with the guitar. It's what makes this remix good. This is one resounding "don't change it". The mix overall is really nice and unique. I'm keeping this version.
  12. I feel the need to say that I like the "bees" and the tiny piano.
  13. I thought I commented on this, but I guess I didn't. I really like it. I'm impressed by what you got out of this source. I don't have any real constructive criticism, but I figured I should let you know it's good.
  14. Shame these guys didn't reply to your update. I never heard your first draft, but I like the new version. This song has been done to death but you manage to bring something new to the table. It has this intense tempo that's like a driving force behind it that keeps you interested. The only big issue I have is those orchestra hits. They sound totally canned. They should be replaced ASAP. I'm not a mixing expert or anything so I hope some of these other guys can comment on that stuff.
  15. Dude. Awesome. This is so much improved. That new solo is just what this needed. Great work!
  16. Oooh this is good. Honestly, this SHOULD be good enough to make it on the site, but they can be real sticklers sometimes.
  17. I'm glad I could help. I look forward to an update.
  18. Well, it sounds great. By that I mean the quality of the instruments, etc, sound great. Each individual song is beautifully done, but as a whole the song suffers. It lacks wholeness. It seems like a string of different songs one after another. The sum is not greater than its parts. I don't exactly know how to help you with that, but one way to fix this could be to mix songs that go well together and really work on flowing into the next song. The Sun's Song is the greatest offender. It's so short and pointless as it is now, but if you sprinkled it throughout the song in the background at opportune moments, it would become really cool to hear. I'm not good enough at arranging to suggest anything else, so I hope this helped. I'm sure some other remixers around here could give you some great pointers. Again, though, it SOUNDS wonderful.
  19. I'm not an expert either, but I think I can help some. Definitely Koopa: The most egregious problem with this track is the lead instrument. It sounds bad. The drums themselves sound good, but I'm not a fan of what the drums are doing. Toooo much cymbals, especially if the drums are going to be so prominent in the track. They're also too straightforward-- one clash per quarter note. It doesn't do anything to set a mood or help the track. The best part of the song is the bridge around 1:30, and that's the only place without the constant cymbals. For the constant cymbals to work, more needs to be going on with the other instruments. Generally, the song has very little "depth". It's too straightforward and has too few surprises-- except for the bridge, which I like a lot. Thoughts While Drowning: I like this one a lot more than Definitely Koopa. It's calming and has a lot of good ambiance. The only real issue is that it's very similar to the source material. It sounds almost exactly the same. The slides you added are great, but I feel you should try to bring some more new things to the arrangement. I hesitate to say that, though, because I think the track is really good as is and I wouldn't want it to become too convoluted. What I would try to do is lengthen what you have, adding some harmony tracks as you go along, building tension. Then, for the last measure or two, cut out all the new stuff and just coast to the end. Of course, that's just my opinion on what should happen here. You could easily have better ideas. I just think it needs to do something more to distance it from the source a bit more. Kakariko Village: I... REALLY REALLY like this. It has a great acoustic atmosphere and it's very calming. The banjo and harmonica sound great. I even like the occasional mistakes. If you do add an ocarina, I would suggest only using it occasionally for emphasis because I think the banjo and harmonica really work perfectly on their own. I hope this helped and nothing came across too harshly. This is all just my opinion and I don't mean to imply I'm better at this than anybody else because, again, I'm no expert.
  20. Hm. I didn't really recognize the source tune in there, and what you have is really repetitive. Keep working and come back when you have a bit more done. EDIT: I recognize the tune now. It's a very very small part of the source, so I'm guessing you've just barely started. If this is your intro, it's too long unless you add some progression to it.
  21. I got Rhythm Heaven several days ago and the music is so incredibly catchy, but all the songs are only about a minute in length. Also, the songs with lyrics seem like they weren't well translated. What I'm wanting is for somebody to lengthen these songs and possibly improve on the lyrics. My favorite song from it is Munchy Monk 2, which is a really peppy ska type tune. This particular tune has no lyrics, and would be really fun to do (I'd think). Munchy Monk 2: Remix 4:
  22. Can somebody please link to this "preview" that everybody is talking about? I can't find the damn thing anywhere. EDIT: Found it...
