I have a feeling I'll be working on my track right down to the wire, buuuuut if it all works out, I think it will be very interesting to say the least Here are some brief Robotnik Round 2 reviews from me. Nice job everyone, I really enjoyed all the tracks this week! Tuberz McGee: loving the vibe of this track. This is probably your most solid vocal work (along with 'Gotta Go Faster') that I've heard to date I think. I think you've found your calling here buddy with this pop-rock sound Mixing is a little muddy in parts, the guitars especially could be punching through a little more I think, but overall this track is a ton of fun! Garpocalypse: I was not prepared for this Bringing in all the big guns. Kudos to probably one of the most (if not the most) ambitious mix I've seen entered for one of these compos. Nice guitar work and nice vocal performance from Brandon! Lyrics are a little cheesey, but I completely get what you were going for and it fits the genre perfectly. Mix is a little muddy in parts (low end seems a bit heavy) and a few of the vocal line timing was a bit off, but overall hell yes, let's rock out TGH: wow, what a fresh take on Death Egg zone. I would never have imagined it in this style. Mixing and instrumentation are all very crisp and the vocals are spot-on for the genre. Awesome job! therex: that intro is so cool man, I dig it, and that initial groove you got going around 0:43 is slick. The lead there feels like it could be a bit more dynamic and punchy on the high-end, to really shine through in the mix, but it's got a cool sound regardless. Transition at 1:27 felt just a little awkward, but I really love the jazzy drums and epiano work you got going on in that section. Cool way to mix it up. Awesome job! Flexstyle: Not much to say here. Expert execution of the genre and instrumentation. I love the arrangement too, you did a nice job integrating two iconic sources. I particularly enjoyed around 3:00 when things got pretty intense and that Chemical Plant groove got kickin'. Killer tune! urdailywater: Oh man yes, I do love some solo piano stuff. Another nice arrangement and integration of the sources. Ice Cap suits the style a little better I think, but the Chemical Plant usage was clever and felt very poignant interlaced between the Ice Cap sections. Really nice job Phonetic Hero: Really cool atmosphere right from the get-go. That piano and light airy pads played off one another really well. Build-up felt like it took a little while to get going, just given the overall length of the track, but from an atmospheric perspective you nailed it. At 1:22 when things got going I really love that panning synth you have going along with that gated-ish pad thing (whatever it is lol). The Aquatic Ruin melody sounds killer in this style too. Really cool, unique piece! Arceace: another really high-energy track from you Awesome groovy bass work too. Nice breakdown section at 1:30 with Aquatic Ruin, lots of cool instrumentation and percussion going on here. Something about the lead at 2:15 felt a little off to me, can't quite place it, but it was playing a cool melody. The subsequent section was pretty groovy too. Nice source integration throughout too!

OCRA-0045 - Sonic CD: Temporal Duality

I picked up the magazine today. I know it's just a tiny blurb, but this is still so awesome. I used to subscribe to Game Informer when I was a kid and I never would have imagined that something I worked on would end up appearing in the magazine. So cool. Here's the full-screen image: -
I don't know about that! It's too close to call right now!

Alright, here are my short reviews for the week. I seriously loved every song this round – they are all so good and choosing between them is very tough! Great job everybody! ladyWidfire – love the opening groove and that filtered sweep sounded nice too. These lyrics are completely off the wall haha, and you and Stevo did a great job executing on them. That chorus is nice and catchy. Not really a whole lot more to add – this song was a lot of fun and both the vocals and instrumentation clicked well. halc – This song has a certain amount of swagger that I really like. It’s cool to see you and wildfire have a lot of fun with your tracks (and deliver on Pete's random round rules, haha). Your vocal delivery sounded even better on this track than it did in Round 1! I really liked the use of the Sonic sfx and your accent vocal ad-lib parts (do-do-do, yeah!) were a nice touch. A really fun track! Sir_NutS – this track really reminded me of some classic NutS action. I really like the ambient percussion you used in this track in addition to the main beat; it really creates a nice atmosphere. The little vocal bits are really cool too and add an extra layer of depth to the song. Nice job! Ivan Hakstok – this was one rockin’ track. I am really digging the arrangement here; clever use of both sources! Awesome guitar work, as usual too. I like how the synth and the guitar play off one another in the second half of the track too. Lots of high energy! Amphibious – I love the energy in this track too. The percussion is awesome throughout; I think it really helps the song feel alive. The little e-piano solo bit halfway through was a real nice highlight for me, as was the subsequent guitar parts. This was another really nice arrangement that had some really nice blend of source usage. Nice! jnWake – I know I already commented a little on your song, but yeah I am completely digging it. I love how you used the e-piano chords with Metropolis, they give the track a nice chill groove. The guitar was definitely the highlight of the mix for me though. That solo at the end, so smoooooth. I think you summed up our match pretty well; my track had a bit better production value, but I think you arranged the two sources a bit better. Really well done! I'm really looking forward to the Pingas bracket mixes this week!! I know you guys are gonna deliver some awesome stuff!

Well this just got awkward... Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone, I appreciate it!

Yeah it seems like we might get all 8 tracks in for this round. Goooooo Robotniks! Yeah my arrangement was a little more liberal this time around. It used Metropolis for mostly backing stuff and the 'chorus' section. The lead synth melody at 0:50 - 1:20 and again at 2:42 - 3:12 is the A melody section from . The lead synth melody at 1:52 - 2:10 and then the piano melody directly after are verbatim the B melody section from Sky Road Zone 1. Most of the other stuff is interpreted a bit more. But yeah, I loved your track. So smoooooooooth. The guitar work is great throughout and is the highlight for me, personally, and the chord progressions are cool too. Nice job! I also liked how you used the Metropolis backing melody part on the e-piano, pretty much in the same exact way I did

Thanks for sharing! That is really cool! I'd be interested in knowing the month/cover too as I'd like to pick up a copy. I used to subscribe to Game Informer way back in the day. I honestly didn't know they were still around. Cool! -

Oh no way really? That's awesome. Do you have a link or a screen grab perhaps? I'm curious what they said! -
That awkward moment when none of the remixers in this round have voted yet cause we're either a) waiting to see how things play out, waiting to see how one another votes, or c) each song is too good to decide between. Hehe. The mixes were all great this week and the voting is so close in each matchup so far! I'm loving it!

Hey Robotniks, I hope all is going well with mixing this week! All of these match-ups are epic and I'm eagerly awaiting the results! From what I've been reading in this thread and elsewhere, it sounds like there is a lot of good stuff in the works! My birthday is this weekend and the best way to celebrate will be to have all 8 mixes turned in You guys didn't disappoint in Round 1! Also: I know Darkesword already mentioned this too... but in regards to some messages in the voting thread being "moderated". I can see these posts too (since I am a mod of the Social Group), so I've been approving these daily. No worries! Thanks!
