I'll try to keep this short. I've never been too good with debates. Personal feelings aside, it's clear that we have a fair number of regulars who feel strongly towards the issue and think we need to take action. What sort of action is that? It's one thing to ask nicely to clean up one's language, but is this the sort of thing we need to clamp down on as hard as racism? By which I mean, racism warrants an instaban if the admin in question isn't feeling particularly generous. Do we want something similar for anti-GBT slurs?

TBH it's probably more a result of being desensitized to it. College tends to do that to a person. If it's any consolation, I can only think of one person who I'd really let get away with it without scrutiny. My personal philosophy is something along the lines of "Is anyone seriously offended by this? If no, ignore, otherwise take steps." See my previous note and apology for tuning out goings on in chat for why I may be completely oblivious to actual complaints about the issue. I do understand where you're coming from, though.

To put in my own two cents on the matter, saying something like "What is this faggotry" won't make me bat an eye, mostly because it's a well-established expression that a) is not aimed at a specific person as a slur, removes said slur from its original meaning to the point that it's more or less lost completely and c) is really annoying to phrase it to remove the slur completely. Unless we have an overwhelming urge to change it to "What is this politically correct homosexuality?" So I guess what I'm trying to say is...context, people. It's important. I'd also like to point out and apologize for my tendency to tune out goings-on in both text and voice chat that others may find objectionable.

Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include: Team Fortress 2 Trading changes Added some anti-scam advice to the chat window. Increased trading slots to 8 slots per person. Added item rarity colors. Added the item’s original name to the item description. Made most tools tradable. Fixed Ellis’ Cap and the Frying Pan not being tradable Hi Powerlord. Couldn't resist. :3

I remember being able to make that Dustbowl jump as a Spy in our Highlander match. Needs pixel-perfect timing, but it's possible. No doubt the +10% speed would make it easier though. The irony is that I haven't been able to make it since.

... Do you have any idea how much I use my gun anyway? If anything I'll use it less to preserve my disguise. It'd be lovely if Spy gets used more frequently in comp, but I'm not holding my breath.

I wasn't aware that swearing in and of itself was bannable. Racism, etc. definitely is, and we have very low tolerance for douchebaggery. Swearing tends to be present in both, but isn't necessarily inherent. So I ask, was the banned person being a douchebag? EDIT: While I'm thinking about it, I'd also like to announce that I have approximately zero tolerance for the latest method of building multiple Sentries. That is all. (Yes, I loathe Engineers, why do you ask? *innocentface*)

To be fair, that Badlands video was more or less a complete steamroll. And IMO his self deprecating humor outweighs any feelings of "this guy sucks" that I feel.

Wing? He's really not bad. Looks like he just had an off day that he decided to publish for the sake of that epic Scout crouch at the end.

So imagine my surprise when Lumpy messaged me and said that you guys were on my map. Well, it was actually mostly pubbers from what I could tell but still made me feel fuzzy inside.

So Valve has announced the winners of the Art Pass contest. Very quickly by their standards, I might add.

It's annoying when loud, but otherwise I don't have a problem with music ingame. If last night was any indication, it also does a great job of loosening everyone up socially, which I see as a plus.

And there was that one guy who ignored me when I said to watch the language and asked why he should listen to me. "Player has been banned by ParanoidDrone (Reason: Because I'm an admin.)" (It was only for a half hour, calm down.)

Given how often RED just sits there, I'm not convinced that converting them to TF2 is a smart use of resources.

This is funny because I'm one of the admins. Only Powerlord and FireSlash have direct server access though. And Bahamut too, but he comes and goes. If I could free up enough space on my drive to actually install L4D2 I'd love to get in on this. I remember the pubstomps and ragequits quite well.

You guys are awesome. And now for something completely different. Those of you who follow my Steam activity may have noticed that I have been in the Source SDK a lot recently. Those of you who are interested in mapping may know that I have been developing a map in the past, tentatively titled Quarry, and that I contracted a massive case of mapper's block in the process. This is not that map. Well, not quite. Even though I was unable to finish the layout to my satisfaction, I was still able to think about one of the most common complaints about what I had published -- it was too big. The scale was fine, but the travel times were too long. Eventually a solution hit me, but it would involve rebuilding the map from the ground up. I was bored. It should be obvious by now what I decided to do. Launchpad is my attempt to take what I liked about Quarry and tweak it to address some of the complaints about it. Most notably the size, but I also took a stab at simplifying the layout of the interior spaces. It's still more or less the same map, just with a fresh coat of paint. And you turn left instead of right after the first point. Knowing myself as I do, if I tried to keep this to myself until I had finished all three stages I would never finish at all. So I decided to take the first stage, pretty it up a bit, and see who felt like taking a stab at criticizing what I hope is "Dustbowl done right." (Now Necro knows why I asked him about that the other day.) Anyone who feels like loading it up and telling me why it sucks and how to make it better is welcome to do so. My email's in the readme if you don't want to clutter the thread. (To those curious about the name change: "Quarry" was never anything but a placeholder name to begin with, and I eventually decided that the final point would be on the launch pad of a RED missile. I wonder if I could trade, say, my Sombrero for 3 Refined and use that as a shortcut to getting the Fez. Hmm...
