  1. Everyone else has been silent on whether or not they're still submitting something. The only final I have to take for school is on Wednesday and then I can get back to work on my entry, which will be submitted. Seriously, there are a LOT of gems out there that haven't been touched. Pick your favorite game with awesome music that hasn't been touched and see if you can find a MIDI. If not, just pick another obscure, unmixed song.
  2. Yes, PLEASE extend it! I need motivation to turn this WIP into something I actually am cool with posting in Workshop but seriously, lots of people on here are in finals mode right now and extending it will allow them to participate.
  3. Seconded. I've got ten hours in on a promising mix but I'll have to file it away till after finals. I might turn it into a WIP, but I'm pretty sure my musical skills need to advance a bit further before I post it...
  4. WOW. I may just have to participate in this. *rifles through obscure game midis*
  5. This is by far the most obscure game soundtrack I have ever come across! Vangers: One for the Road is a game released in 1998 by Russian game developer K-D Lab. No, I hadn't heard of it either before yesterday. After managing to find a few YouTube videos of gameplay footage, I found one with a very catchy song. The rest of the soundtrack* is pretty catchy as well but that one is by far the one I find most interesting. It's track four, the theme for Necross. The obvious problem, at least for music n00bs like myself, is that such an obscure game doesn't have any midi files of any sort. If anyone can either find a MIDI for that song, figure out if it is possible to extract the sequence data from the game, or make one just by listening to it, that would be awesome :] (yes, it's a tall order, but I'm assuming this post is probably going to be ignored anyway ) *: this is not the official download for the soundtrack, but the official download has a glitch in the Necross theme DX
  6. Hi guys! Seeing as I'm probably not the only DDR / ITG player on the forums, I figured I'd post this for my fellow arrow-smashers. A friend of mine named Robby runs a site called Beatgamer dedicated to rhythm games. Quote from the site: This site could turn into something awesome, but the forums have fallen kinda dead as of late. I really want to bring them back! If you're in the rhythm game community (or want to be) and you live around here (or even if you don't), join the forums! The required registration code for October is "banzai2011" (no quotes).Even though I don't run any part of the site, I want to see if I can also attract people interested in developing rhythm games (or at least testing new ones out). This is mostly because I have an idea I want to start developing. A dude can at least dream, right? Anyway, for those about to join, I salute you. </painfully lame AC/DC reference that I refuse to remove>
  7. That was my reasoning as well. SpaceChem is AWESOME. (yes, I used the image sig function in the game )
  8. As weird as it is to think about it, the entire path of my life (and countless others) was set in motion by Steve Jobs. My grandparents on my mom's side met at Apple in the early days. My grandfather's employee number was 256 and my grandmother's (a year later) was 644. They loved working at Apple so much that their wedding reception was at Apple, in a Apple building, with all Apple employees. I was born before my mom turned 20 so we were living at my grandparent's house for a while. In that time, I became fascinated with my grandfather's computers. I remember one time in particular where one minute I had downloaded a game and a few minutes later there was a virus on the computer. I was hooked, for better or worse xD When I was in third grade, my grandfather gave me his old IBM machine. That was the first computer I ever owned, and this would be the computer on which I would (still in third grade, mind you) learn HTML and write my very first website at the ripe age of EIGHT. Nowadays, I cringe at the idea of actual web programming and avoid HTML whenever possible, but I am studying computer science and going into video game development. This is a route that probably would not have been as fun to go down had I not had my amazing grandfather with his computers, who in turn would not have been there in the first place if he didn't work at Apple, which in turn would not have been possible if it wasn't for Steve Jobs. Thanks Steve. You have not only shaped my entire life, but you have given two of the most important people in my life the best job of their lives that they still miss to this very day. R.I.P.
  9. Dammit that's a good entry xD

  10. Ah shit, that's way good xD Even though I'm going to mark this as a major WIP, I'll still say this is my entry for the purposes of the deadline. I present for your listening pleasure (?) J & R's Epic Adventure! ...whew. Now I gotta take a break from music and remixing for a while to focus on school. EDIT: WOW. I totally meant the R to be a D (Drill Man, DUH). Ummm, the song is about Jewel Man and Mega Man (or Rockman) teaming up against Drill Man? XP
  11. I'll see what I can get done tonight and tomorrow and then I'll figure out where to go from there.
  12. I haven't had any time to work on mine beyond a sketch yet. However, I should still be set for Monday. If we didn't have our mixes due Monday, I would probably keep pushing it off xP
  13. If you're reading this and you are capable of winning a PRC, you NEED to win one and pick a Starfox 64 song that isn't Sector X as the source for the next one
  14. While CS is still what I'm aiming to do with my life (game development specifically), I still want to be able to produce GOOD music and I know that I'm not going to be satisfied with my music until I know that what I hear is what others will hear. (I still need to get better at making music, but I'm not purchasing these right away anyway) I'm stuck in that boat too. That's why I'm going to be primarily relying on the good will of my friends and family for cash as birthday presents in November Thanks for the advice guys! I'm not going to be able to afford them for a bit, but I'm glad I'm picking headphones instead of monitors for the time being. Maybe I'll buy monitors if I ever get a posted mix
  15. zach, how is your mix coming along? I'm just curious to gauge my own progress (which hasn't been much).
  16. I'll check out my nearby Guitar Center then. One final stupid question before the thread is dead: I suspect I gravitate towards bright headphones, but maybe this is just because I've never had a pair of headphones worthy to properly mix with. Is it pretty easy to tell when you've found THE PAIR or is there something I need to keep in mind to avoid purchasing biased headphones? I definitely appreciate the help! Those who subject themselves to my music appreciate it too
  17. That is a good idea given my budget. Hmm...I hate asking questions like this, but what would you guys recommend for headphones then? AKG and SRH seem to be the two brands that fall around that price area...
  18. After a rather nasty realization recently of how much my current speakers color the sound in my music, I'm ready to start looking for monitors now. Earlier today, I spoke with an Avid rep that's at my school for a tech fair. Upon asking him about monitors, he recommended the BX8a's or the BX5a's for higher-end stuff OR the AV 30's or the AV 40's for budget monitors. Based on the little bit of research I've done, the AV 40's sound like they would be a good fit for me given my poor college student status. So, two questions: 1) is there a different set of intro monitors anyone would recommend over these and if not, 2) at this early point in my musical experience, is there really any reason for me to shell out hundreds more for the higher-end monitors? For reference, I'm currently using the Logitech X-540 system as a 3.1 system. Thanks in advance!
  19. RollerGames is an NES game based on the old TV show. I've been wanting to remix this for a while after listening to on YouTube, but I don't possess a MIDI file and the last MIDI file I tried to make was utter crap. Therefore, if someone could remix this OR provide me with a MIDI file, I would appreciate it (yes, I've already checked the usual places)
  20. lol in that case, let's bump it back one week to October 3rd. There are things I need to get done for school that unfortunately are more important than OCR
  21. I'm glad I decided on two weeks. I haven't advanced past a sketch at the moment. I will, however, make the deadline. After this mix, I gotta go on OCR hiatus for a bit to focus on school and game development. Also, let's keep this on the first page
  22. The second match (I think?) has officially begun. zach72 and I will report back before the end of the day on September 26th with our Jewel Man and Drill Man battle remixes.
  23. I use a Logitech surround sound system minus the back two speakers simply because they're the only good set of speakers I have. I typically listen to music and mix on this system with the bass dial halfway. Even after cranking the dial all the way to max bass, it still doesn't sound as bad as it did at my friend's house. That leaves four possibilities: The sub just can't deliver the actual amount of bass that is produced and therefore I need to look for new speakers if I want a more accurate sound representation. (this system was like $99) Something is weird in my soundcard settings. Both. I need to quit whining and just get used to these ones for the sake of saving some money right now. Anyway, I'll quit derailing this topic and I'll post in the proper place if I need any help. All of the entries sound awesome guys! How's that for on-topic?
  24. WOW. I listened to my entry earlier today on a higher-quality sound system at my friend's house and my song sounded like shit. Sorry if you're drowning in bass frequencies!! DX After my next compo (GRMRB Exhibition Match), I'm going to hold off on mixing for a bit until I can figure out what to do about my speaker situation. (not to mention school is nuts, but that is another story)
