  1. I always find it interesting when a game uses variations on a certain theme throughout the game. Particularly, I think variations on the same battle theme are AWESOME. I'll use Pokemon Ruby / Sapphire / Emerald as an example. As you'll notice, the battle music starts as being relatively care-free (Pokemon battle) and slowly transitions over the course of the game to more serious stuff (so to speak ). Once you reach the FINAL, insanely tense battle with the champion of the Elite Four, the music changes to reflect the HOLY-SHIT-this-is-the-final-battle-and-then-I'm-the-most-badass-player-in-Hoenn-not-counting-my-IRL-friends-that-still-might-be-able-to-kick-my-ass feeling. 2. First show is TONIGHT! I've got tons of crazy stuff lined up: YouTube remixes, a Newgrounds remix, some AWESOME ReMixes, multiple covers, songs from very recent indie games, and MORE! Oh yes, and staying true to my sig, I've added a tiny splash of DDR music as well.
  3. I'll see what I can do about recruiting interesting people on YouTube and a few other places. Here's hoping there are some remixers that frequent the SLC Reddit... Also, I just received Banjo-Kazooie the other day to remind myself of what the levels feel like. *stealthbump*
  4. They were cool but exactly zero of them had that perfect feel. I did like them, though. volterock, I'm not planning on uploading any of the commercial songs (partially due to the fact that this is run through a major university that frowns upon file sharing like this) BUT I will list out every song on the Facebook page after each show. For the commercial songs, I may or may not track down where to buy them. For the free ones, I'll link to where you can get them.
  5. I've officially named it! The show is now called VGM Scramble and the Facebook page is here. Thanks for the ideas guys!
  6. Listen via kuteradio.org OR the TuneIn Radio app (search for KUTE) Best way to stay updated with the show? Keep an eye on the Facebook page! Podcast info: (effective from Show #5 onwards) During the first hour, I will play all sorts of VGM, free or otherwise. This music will stay on the airwaves. The podcast will only consist of the second half of the show which will contain either music that is freely available to begin with or music from artists I have directly contacted that are cool with me putting their stuff in the podcast. While this does reduce the length of the podcast, it also ensures I won't have any legal issues down the road. Show info: I've recently become a DJ for my university's student internet radio station. Taking my obsession with games and music into consideration, I've naturally decided to make a video game music radio show. Wait a minute, I'm pretty sure I've heard this somewhere before: Mechanized_Angel has a radio station. KyleJCrb has two. jmr has one. Cyril the Wolf has one. OverCoat has one. etc... Since lists are so awesome, let's make another one! Why on EARTH would you want to listen to my radio show? OSTs / OSVs Remixes from across the internet (including stuff that people typically don't look for / know about) ReMixes (with proper attribution, of course) Covers (XOC, Minibosses, Bad Dudes, etc.) New stuff (Super Meat Boy, etc.) Old stuff (although I'm not sure if I want to go further back than the 8-bit era) Everything between (Paper Mario: TTYD, Lego Island, F-Zero GX, Pokemon Sapphire / Ruby, etc.) Obscure stuff (ever heard of a Russian role-playing combat racing game called Vangers? Listen to my first show!) Selected DDR and ITG tracks More music, less talk! This thread was originally just for naming the show until this genius one popped up out of nowhere.
  7. Despite my rather poor entry in the GRMRB, I'm game.
  8. Good god, I have such a hard time playing this game. That being said, I'd love to see something as insane as Boatmurdered or Headshoots going on here, especially if names from the community get tossed in as characters. EDIT: I'm not going to play, but I'm cool with being casted in as a random character.
  9. HMM...Well, I don't have any solid ideas right off the bat. Maybe I need to let this one soak in a few times...
  10. No idea but perhaps this list can help you out?
  11. Might I recommend Lego Island? loomcore had a sweet version of Brick by Brick started but he hasn't even been on the site for about a year now. I would tackle the race theme (music only and in-game with sound effects) but 1). I can't find a MIDI anywhere and 2). I'm not quite at the point where I can notate music by ear. If anyone wants to tackle it, here is the soundtrack.
  12. I'm pretty sure I just dropped to a new level of suckitude with my entry, but I have submitted a "song".
  13. My brain is so distracted with a billion other things right now. As a result, mine sounds like crap so far. Not that this is new information or anything. XD I suppose we'll see what the next two days bring... EDIT: I have 1:24 so far. Oddly enough, even though it has felt like I've been working on this thing for quite some time, I haven't even broken four hours yet. o_O
  14. This is true, but most of the time my other interests (like gaming and coding and not failing to get my CS degree) usually get in the way of important music stuff (like actually developing my ear and actually using a keyboard instead of manually tweaking hell if I know what in the piano roll). Therefore, I am forced to use MIDIs for now. >_>
  15. Oops. Perhaps it is best that I haven't worked on my track yet. Since we aren't allowed to bug the directors, is there a tentative release time for the existing Banjo-Kazooie project?
  16. This is still my favorite title for the album. XD On a serious note, that could be doable. It depends on what everyone else thinks, though. I'm a pretty big n00b when it comes to music, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
  17. For whatever reason, I made it less than 10 seconds into Meteor Spacecraft before thinking it should be done in a style similar to or Pogo by Digitalism. After listening to the rest of the song, I concluded I thought correctly, particularly with Circles. :]
  18. Flat Notes covers just the original Paper Mario. That album will be awesome when it comes out, but we definitely need more coverage on the other two games in the meantime. I'm most familiar with TTYD so lemme drop a few more epic tracks: Macho Grubba: http://youtu.be/RFKrhiKrbHo X-Naut Fortress: http://youtu.be/WvF3uPr5dUg Lord Crump / Magnus Von Grapple: http://youtu.be/DA_5D3itRug Rougeport Sewers: http://youtu.be/HqobTr9Ro0s Glitzville: There are plenty more, but these ones sound the most remixable.
  19. Since you already have lyrics, you might have a bit more success if you hit up the Recruit and Collaborate forum. Just spitballin'. On a side note, I would LOVE to see some remixes from Sonic Riders or Zero Gravity. The soundtracks in both of those games were awesome.
  20. The second source sounds promising. If I can figure out how to recreate the bass sound that I used in Kirby Benassi in a different synth, I might enter. If not...hell, I still might enter.
  21. Not sure if anyone is a fan of Evol Intent (drum and bass / dubstep act), but they recently released a free track (direct link) which is their take on (what I think is) the Punch-Out!! fight music.
  22. Bingo! Aside from school and life getting in the way, I only participate if there is a MIDI simply because I don't have a musical ear capable of picking out all of the notes. Like Obtuse mentioned, there will still be times where the source just doesn't interest enough people. However, I definitely think having MIDI files required will make that less likely to happen.
  23. Hmm. FL Studio is telling me I spent 14.5 hours on this. One of these days, I'll speed up my process. Oh well! My remix has been submitted as well. *whips out an umbrella for the inevitable rotten veggie onslaught*
