You can post your song 2 or 3 days after him, its not like in the real contest, so you can take your time and put everything in it. I think everyone will agreed with this, we prefer a good quality song than something rush.
I'll see what I can get done tonight and tomorrow and then I'll figure out where to go from there.
-
Errr I've gotten a minute and a half done, probably only gonna have 2-3 minutes at the end tho
hbu?
I haven't had any time to work on mine beyond a sketch yet. However, I should still be set for Monday. If we didn't have our mixes due Monday, I would probably keep pushing it off xP

If you're reading this and you are capable of winning a PRC, you NEED to win one and pick a Starfox 64 song that isn't Sector X as the source for the next one

If you buy top-of-the-line headphones, you'll never need another pair unless you're careless with them and treat them like crap. If you're serious about your music sometimes you've got to be willing to shell out the extra money for the better equipment. There are some things that just aren't worth skimping out on, and headphones/monitors are definitely one of those things.
While CS is still what I'm aiming to do with my life (game development specifically), I still want to be able to produce GOOD music and I know that I'm not going to be satisfied with my music until I know that what I hear is what others will hear. (I still need to get better at making music, but I'm not purchasing these right away anyway)
Ah, well... I'm stuck in the realm of music being just a hobby but still wanting my work to sound good.I'm also stuck in the realm of I have no freaking money.
I'm stuck in that boat too. That's why I'm going to be primarily relying on the good will of my friends and family for cash as birthday presents in November
Thanks for the advice guys! I'm not going to be able to afford them for a bit, but I'm glad I'm picking headphones instead of monitors for the time being. Maybe I'll buy monitors if I ever get a posted mix
-
zach, how is your mix coming along? I'm just curious to gauge my own progress (which hasn't been much).
-
I'll check out my nearby Guitar Center then. One final stupid question before the thread is dead: I suspect I gravitate towards bright headphones, but maybe this is just because I've never had a pair of headphones worthy to properly mix with. Is it pretty easy to tell when you've found THE PAIR or is there something I need to keep in mind to avoid purchasing biased headphones?
I definitely appreciate the help! Those who subject themselves to my music appreciate it too

Something I learned from Zircon was that you can get cheap, not-so-great monitors for $300, or amazing top of the line headphones for the same $300 or less.
I spent $400 on monitors about 5 years ago and spent $250 on headphones last year - I use the headphones for all my mixing now and I think the quality has improved greatly as well. The monitors I bought still get used, but when I'm doing the final mixdown I always prefer the headphones because the mix ends up coming out much tighter and more polished overall.
That is a good idea given my budget. Hmm...I hate asking questions like this, but what would you guys recommend for headphones then? AKG and SRH seem to be the two brands that fall around that price area...
-
After a rather nasty realization recently of how much my current speakers color the sound in my music, I'm ready to start looking for monitors now. Earlier today, I spoke with an Avid rep that's at my school for a tech fair. Upon asking him about monitors, he recommended the BX8a's or the BX5a's for higher-end stuff OR the AV 30's or the AV 40's for budget monitors.
Based on the little bit of research I've done, the AV 40's sound like they would be a good fit for me given my poor college student status. So, two questions: 1) is there a different set of intro monitors anyone would recommend over these and if not, 2) at this early point in my musical experience, is there really any reason for me to shell out hundreds more for the higher-end monitors?
For reference, I'm currently using the Logitech X-540 system as a 3.1 system.
Thanks in advance!

RollerGames is an NES game based on the old TV show. I've been wanting to remix this for a while after listening to
on YouTube, but I don't possess a MIDI file and the last MIDI file I tried to make was utter crap. Therefore, if someone could remix this OR provide me with a MIDI file, I would appreciate it
(yes, I've already checked the usual places)

Chroxic, just say the word if ya need more time, as I also haven't gotten too far on my own mix
lol in that case, let's bump it back one week to October 3rd. There are things I need to get done for school that unfortunately are more important than OCR
-
I'm glad I decided on two weeks. I haven't advanced past a sketch at the moment. I will, however, make the deadline.
After this mix, I gotta go on OCR hiatus for a bit to focus on school and game development.
Also, let's keep this on the first page

Second place WOOOO! Slowly moving up in the world xD

The second match (I think?) has officially begun. zach72 and I will report back before the end of the day on September 26th with our Jewel Man and Drill Man battle remixes.
-
I use a Logitech surround sound system minus the back two speakers simply because they're the only good set of speakers I have. I typically listen to music and mix on this system with the bass dial halfway. Even after cranking the dial all the way to max bass, it still doesn't sound as bad as it did at my friend's house.
That leaves four possibilities:
- The sub just can't deliver the actual amount of bass that is produced and therefore I need to look for new speakers if I want a more accurate sound representation. (this system was like $99)
- Something is weird in my soundcard settings.
- Both.
- I need to quit whining and just get used to these ones for the sake of saving some money right now.
Anyway, I'll quit derailing this topic and I'll post in the proper place if I need any help.
All of the entries sound awesome guys! How's that for on-topic?

WOW. I listened to my entry earlier today on a higher-quality sound system at my friend's house and my song sounded like shit. Sorry if you're drowning in bass frequencies!! DX
After my next compo (GRMRB Exhibition Match), I'm going to hold off on mixing for a bit until I can figure out what to do about my speaker situation. (not to mention school is nuts, but that is another story)

Ok, finally subbed my PRC 202 entry.
zach72, if you're still good with everything (choice of Robot Master, length of two weeks, etc), then our battle shall commence on Monday.
-
Two hours later, I have finished to the best of my ability and subbed my track. I had some fun with some vocal samples.
-
finally started on my mix.
Taking a whole new approach, heavily reverbed acoustic guitars with space cores and hares doing background vocals.
No new approaches for me, but I'm definitely trying to emulate my genre of choice a bit more accurately.
I refuse to sleep tonight until I finish this.
-
Awesome, any due date you wanna stick with? Or just around a certain number of weeks?
Knowing how *well* things went for me in the GRMRB when we had just a week, let's go with two weeks to start. September 26th before the end of the day. Since this is casual, we can always stretch it out if we need to.
-
Chroxic, I'll challenge ya whenever you're free (and have figured out which robot master you're choosing), just say when
Monday, September 12th, I will begin remixing Jewel Man vs. Drill Man. If, of course, that works with you.
Chernabogue, you can have Gravity Man for all I care
I can't do shit with his theme right now Dx
-
Sorry I kinda vanished! I keep forgetting about this >_<
If I am permitted to do so, I would like to change my Robot Master to Jewel Man for the exhibition match. I didn't listen to as many Robot Masters as I should have before choosing Gravity Man and after I heard Jewel Man, I found myself with more ideas for him than Gravity Man.
If not, I'm still up for going into battle with Gravity Man.
EDIT: If anyone wants to challenge me, I will gladly accept right after PRC 202.
-
Really nice source picks.
--Eino
Seconded.
Wow, I already have two short sketches and one half-baked idea and there's still a week to go. Usually I don't have anything for a while o_O
I want to remix both of these but Im afraid I won't have time, but if I do it won't be that good.Yeah, same here. Both of my legit ideas are for Eladard.
-
WOW. Didn't see that one coming.
Real life is calming down for me from the frenzy it was last week, so getting something in should be a bit easier.
-
Nice job guys. If this semester wasn't out to KILL ME, maybe I would have had time to finish my take on the song.
This life thing is annoying, getting in the way of mah PRCs

Ah shit, that's way good xD
Even though I'm going to mark this as a major WIP, I'll still say this is my entry for the purposes of the deadline. I present for your listening pleasure (?) J & R's Epic Adventure!
...whew. Now I gotta take a break from music and remixing for a while to focus on school.
EDIT: WOW. I totally meant the R to be a D (Drill Man, DUH). Ummm, the song is about Jewel Man and Mega Man (or Rockman) teaming up against Drill Man? XP
