  1. This is my Western rendition of "Dark Groove" from Jazz Jackrabbit 2. Feel free to say stuff. This is going into my next music album and very soon my high school grad project. Should I get rid of 1:54 - 2:14 (a meh variation) and/or 3:34 - 3:55 (a repeat)? I might submit this in the future as an OCR if it proves worthwhile. I already submitted something else last week. https://www.box.com/s/d60173cac93c28f0d317 - Normal https://www.box.com/s/09cee3fb69f11f41f8e7 - Shorter version (1:54 - 2:14 and 3:34 - 3:55 taken out)
  2. I love using TruePianos, but I want to know if I might be overdoing the velocity edits sometimes. I play piano, but still, I just want to know. Yes, there is overlap between hands somewhere. Let's just say it was played on two pianos at the same time, because these octave positions in combination sound best for this particular song, IMO. ;D Here is an excerpt from a remix I'm making. https://www.box.com/s/3a9b22514c2d484bd53a - Drums + Bass + Pads + Piano
  3. I do know how to play guitar. I just don't have the tools to record it, or an electric one.
  4. Since I had already submitted, I think I'll wait for a judges' decision first. xD
  5. Have you tried Spicy Guitar before? You're so pessimistic. >_> Spicy Guitar DOES have chord detection and it realistically plays the chord that it finds the notes playing. So no, I'm not using a sample of a single note. That's too lame. >.>
  6. This v5 isn't bad at all! Maybe boost the higher frequencies of the lead a tad and add some vibrato on it. You could also make the sound at 1:05 a bit louder for a bigger contrast in a section shift. Also, at 1:20, maybe a sound decreasing in pitch could serve as a good transition. Overall, some of the backup and lead synths you use are kind of bland. Try changing to a different waveform for your synths for a wider sound. You can also, rather than boost the higher frequencies, widen the frequencies it covers little by little until it sounds right but does not muddy up the other instruments as well.
  7. Alright, that could be a quick fix. From what you said earlier, I can do fret slides instead. That's possible with my plugin. I just find it not efficient when it's only a half step. And the initial attack won't really be at 0 seconds, since this is literally going to be somewhere in the middle of a future remix. I appreciate the guitar-expertise help!
  8. That's what I originally thought. Hm... What DOES it sound like to you?
  9. What if it was just a fret slide? Would that sound like what I did? (I don't have an electric guitar)
  10. Probably. I can't really say anything else about what goes through his mind sometimes. Nothing against him of course.
  11. I didn't realize the third link was pasted like that. I changed the link now. Yes, it does sound significantly different with a bass and drums in context. The intent is a western feel, so the vibrato in those places was intentional. https://www.box.com/s/317bef1f55dfba2c80fe @SnappleMan: FYI, the chorus is completely realistic, or at least, however real Guitar Rig reputably sounds. For $399.99 it has to be worth it. The acoustic guitar "sample" isn't a sample, it's a free plugin, but it's actually a really good plugin. It has a lot of good stuff, like picking position, picking speed, impedance, color, etc. If it had pitch bend without a pitch mod wheel on a MIDI keyboard, it might be one of the best free ones out there of acoustic guitars. I actually controlled the pitch bend option with automation clips rather than a real pitch mod wheel. ------------ Later it is meant to be a remix of this: If you listen to the part at 2:04 or at 3:44, that's what this full is supposed to be a remix of---that section.
  12. I'm seeing how realistic I can make sequenced guitar and bass sound. Does this sound real? https://www.box.com/s/a5b6622b1a74b4a6433a - Isolated Chorused Electric Guitar V1 https://www.box.com/s/d1df9c3281120b5e30e1 - Isolated Chorused Electric Guitar V2 https://www.box.com/s/317bef1f55dfba2c80fe - Chorused Electric Guitar + Bass + Low pass drums
  13. True, that's actually kind of what I was imagining as well; my sister has a full-fledged synthesizer for performances.
  14. I would prefer a combination of the two. VST plugins combined with a MIDI keyboard. The MIDI keyboard can be used for improv, idea fleshing, and idea forming. VSTs can allow you to get the sound you want, and you can master everything virtually.
  15. This "life skill" is essentially just saying what you mean in such a way that you can make it humorous and helpful at the same time. For example: "Your song needs some work here and there. Actually, you know what, it needs a lot of work. Take this crit seriously, but assume it's constructive and considerate because I'm just too tired to say nice words right now." = ironic, humorous.
  16. The main problem I have is that I want to someday sequence a realistic electric guitar, but without pitch bends it won't work so well. I can kind of imitate fret slides, but not anything close to whammy bar effects. I do know how to automate pitch bends with non-FL VSTs that have pitch control in them, like Zebra and Massive, but Spicy Guitar is my best free option so far for an unamped acoustic guitar, and it has no pitch modulation option for automation, unfortunately.
  17. Well, I had to. >_> Any musician who has taken lessons probably has had to.
  18. I updated the remix and removed the phaser! https://www.box.com/s/7b056a8c3417d31bae5c - 192 kbps (v2) https://www.box.com/s/51902283176a34f60bbe - 224 kbps (v2) I'm submitting this at this moment (anyone is still free to tell me what they think! ).
  19. It does. At this point I only know to automate pitch when the feature exists in the VST itself.
  20. Maybe I should have mentioned this. I'm thinking of non-FL plugins when I'm asking about pitch bend. The normal pitch bend method works for FL plugins, but when I try it with stuff like Spicy Guitar or Zero Vector, it doesn't go past +/- one half step.
  21. Well... I know how to pitch bend in FL, but is there a way to increase the pitch bend range? So far it only works for +/- one half step. I want to do stuff like fret slides or something at some point.
  22. I agree with chimpazilla. Try having some more high quality synths in there. If you want the 8-bit sound, be creative with glitchy effects or something. The drums, however, don't have to be 8-bit drums. Neither do the synths. You can still have expressive synths for 8-bit songs. Just add vibrato and maybe some pulse width modulation.
  23. That made me laugh. No, seriously, best post I've seen all week. xD I'd suggest Meteor Mic. I believe it was $60 or something. You can find it in Best Buy, last I checked.
  24. Well, I'm hearing bongos, various brass (maybe a trumpet), pianos, shakers, and a picked bass.
