finished naruto techno remix
timaeus222 replied to JamiesRemixes's topic in Post Your Original Music!
I liked the rain sound effects. For some nostalgia, I presume. It seemed that 0:48 came suddenly. Try having some sort of precursor to it. It's a big contrast between chillout and drum 'n bass. Perhaps fade in the bass at that point. Try to lower the mix level on the bass to about 90% its current value. It's very distorted right now. In fact, try putting a limiter and making sure nothing hits its threshold value. -
@electric concerto: No worries. I just don't want to feel like I'm insulting anyone or being insulted. The electric piano was under the effects of a virtual guitar amp. It was weird that it sort of worked for a while there; the preset was actually called "Vocal and Piano", so I thought it would have worked since it improved the soundspace. @Pixel Panic: Yeah, I do know that criticism doesn't have to be positive, but I just meant that if there is criticism, there should be positive assurance to keep the remixer motivated. Thank you for your criticism too. I'll see if I can do something different with this, but I REALLY want to start off the remix with that electric piano. Maybe I can fix the EQ of everything for now. :{} I'll also try some stuff with reverse cymbals and new drum samples. EDIT: Will add V2 here later.

I never tried to be an ass. All I said was that if you don't know what you're talking about, do some research, get experience, and contribute with positive motivation. This is a remix community, not a criticism-heavy forum. I just want information from a sure person. I even said "No offense" by the way...

I knew the snare needed work. Just wanted to make sure. The song isn't overcompressed until the last three notes. I'll fix that. The electric guitar "sample" isn't really a sample. It's an acoustic with a virtual amp. Perhaps you could suggest some amping features you would have put or something. I have Guitar Rig 4. The saw wave lead was meant to not have too much resonance, but I guess I could increase the treble some. The arrangement shouldn't sound too random if you listen to this song, because it was kind of based off of it. It honestly doesn't seem like you know what you're talking about. You weren't sure of a lot of things, and you seem to only advise to your preference. No offense, but there are things you said that aren't true. Electric Pianos can sound really nice, and there's no reason to not have an Electric Piano intro other than if it seems prolonged. Also, a sax might be too bold for this type of remix.

This is one of my favorite themes in Black/White, and I just got some insanely cool ideas on this! I do plan to submit this. :3 I have a hunch the drums may need modification, and maybe the tonal suitability, but that's just me so far. I'm using FL Studio. Totally influenced by WillRock and Diggi Dis. ;D Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Sj8DpYZu_Q "Mirror 1" "Mirror 2"Remix: http://www.box.com/s/jsyp66te9t945fk12gi6

finished Sonic CD - Stardust Speedway (Jazz/Funk)

I feel like you should reduce the bass boost on the bass whenever it reaches really low notes so that the actual notes can be better differentiated when it's playing by itself. Also, the piano feels like it could be humanized with a bunch of velocity edits. Even though you played with a MIDI keyboard, you may not have played it exactly how you wanted it. Here's your chance to edit it! If you want a very dynamic piano plugin, try to get 4Front TruePianos if you can. The parts with lone claps seem... low quality. Try layering the claps with something else; I usually only have claps as a high frequency layer to my snares. -
This is a really cool heavy metal song of mine. http://www.box.com/s/ysngkjl300vndoyfz2b7 Slightly influenced by Bullet For My Valentine. My friend likes that band.

wip Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2: Hidden Land Remix
timaeus222 replied to King Kayle's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I feel like the snare's really lacking the punch. Try layering a low end to it. The reverb is a bit much on the panned synths. Try making them slightly more legato instead. Also, try thinking about what fits and what doesn't. Take out any unnecessary instruments that wouldn't make a difference if they weren't there. For example, if an instrument can't be heard, why have it there to clog up the frequency spectrum? Your remix is really heavy in the mids. The bass frequencies are really only occupied by the kick, and it's really intense in a slightly bad but not so demeaning way. Try EQing this song more. Add a bass to be sidechained, then fix the EQ on the kick just a bit so it isn't giving anything lower than a frequency of 63 Hz. A kick would best work through a notch filter if you want it to be heard. The last thing I feel needs to be fixed is the repetitiveness. Try to have a feel for where your song's going. Plan out what you want to be your intro, body, A section, B section, and outtro. That might help. -
finished 'Castle of Doom' (Ambient/Electronica)

Nope, it's not a rendering problem. I guess I didn't think of the wrong synth instance. It's definitely different now. Also, I checked the amount of Previews on the V2 remix. There aren't any. My mistake, I put the wrong link. This is the right link for the V2. http://www.box.com/s/4s9fozqlalgkjiegl0ak (V2) I updated it again though. It should be more ambient, especially in the beginning. Yes, I have EQ'd everything. A lot, actually. And someone already has told me to lessen the vibrato; I had done that also. I appreciate your trying to help me, but most of the things you've said so far were already established. :/ I will try lowering the bass's mix level some more. http://www.box.com/s/dqg1bsr78xzyfdhmkire - V6.2

This is sounding really nice! I also feel the kick is a bit strong. Try cloning that kick, putting a Low Pass filter on one, a Low Shelf filter on the other, and lowering the frequency on both to maybe about 200 Hz. I partially agree with DarkSim. A thick saw coming in would be quite effective, but maybe you could additionally adjust its resonance so that it won't be so piercing. Maybe some vibrato on the saw would be really cool too.

finished Final Fantasy 6 Overworld Remix

It's quite good so far, actually. I would suggest you to widen the main bass and perhaps amp it up a smidge. The snare could have a bit of a High Shelf filter to give it some more high end. Maybe some cool harmonies? Anyways, this is sounding nice at the moment. -
Here's my first attempt at Dubstep in combination with Ambient and Electronica, so I'm wondering how I did on the production quality of this. I'm not completely sure about submitting this, so just focus your critique on how good/bad this sounds overall for now. I'm thinking the drums are fine. I'm only worried about if it's crowded, if my choice of sounds was working, or if any of the sounds are overpowering for any others, etc. All non-percussion sounds were with Zebra 2.5 with the exception of the White Noise.
