  1. Phase II: Requests

    =========================================

We're now entering Phase II, which is the songs/games request stage. It is important to remember a few key points...

    • You MUST include SOME form of source tunes. THE MORE SOURCES, THE BETTER.
    • You are STRONGLY ADVISED to try AS HARD AS YOU CAN to provide a midi file. IF YOU PROVIDE A MIDI FILE, YOU INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD YOUR SONG WILL GET DONE.
    • See VGMusic.com for details.
    • In Phase II EACH USER ONLY GETS 1 REQUEST. ONE. UNO. DO NOT MAKE MORE THAN 1 REQUEST. IF YOU DO I MAY EVEN IGNORE ALL YOUR REQUESTS. IGNORANCE is NOT an excuse.:banghead:
    • When posting sources please be sure to respect the boards policy on piracy. We will be working with users and mixers to best ensure that your sources are viable.
    • I reserve the right to REJECT your request for any which reason including, but not limited to: Insufficient source, over remixed, overt obscurity, unrealistically difficult, and a long long list of other things.
    • Don't be dumb. Seriously. As the people requesting this contest is, in essence FOR YOU as much as it is for the mixer. If you really and truly want to see some stellar results. TAKE YOUR TIME and DO THIS RIGHT. Be AS THOROUGH AS YOU FEEL NEED BE.

That's all I got for now. Have at it.

  2. Hey man, good to see you around here.

Also, I can promise a good WIP after a month, but not a finished song. Don't know if that automatically disqualifies me or anything.

Just do the best you can. It's all we can ask.

Matter of last minute clarification: "Challengers MUST include a source tune for reference." Does this mean that we must provide a link on the web to a midi or MP3 of the source tune or just provide the Title of the song and where to find it?

I ask this because the song I want to use for the challenge is not obscure and is in fact available on an OST CD. I have the source tune for the challenge I want to make both on CD and on MP3. But, I could easily find it on the web as an MP3 or I could just point to the much better recording on an authored CD and say to the challegner, "Look here for reference."

Maybe I'm just worrying about nothing, but I was curious.

BTW: Good luck to all the remixers in this event. I respect all people who can compose/remix music because I can't due to poor musical ability. :(

The first thing I'd say to do it direct to a the original sound file (PSF, NSF, GYM...) or YouTube video if you can find one. There are a LOT of YouTube videos of songs out there. If all else fails and you really can't find reference other than an MP3 give specific instructions and we'll take care of the rest.

if there are suggestions without midis (and there will be) how about those who desperately need a midi state so and they get those sources?

I never use the midi anyway so it feels like a waste if I were to get a source with a midi and somebody who needs one didn't and therefor can't make a track with the quality they are capable of

The only problem with that is, there's some odd 55 remixes to go through, so it'll be a bit of a process. All this is being considered though, which is why there's a break between the requests stage and the mixing stage so we can figure out song distribution JUST being the random script. We're trying to make it as fair as we can for everyone to optimize the results.

HOWEVER you are ENCOURAGED to find a midi, as many of the mixers signed on will likely have trouble without them.

    BUT ANYWAY....

Mixer sign up concludes at 11:59PM EST tonight.

Afterward I'll make a few more specific suggestions of things to consider when suggesting your song.

  3. So, I was noodling aound here wondering if I should post this YouTube video I made or not, since I hadn't really been hanging out here for ages. I noticed a few threads where people (pretty understandably :D ) seem to think I vanished off the face of the earth or something around 2002. I didn't. I've done over 30 game remixes, not counting the PMM/OUS stuff. I stoppoed submitting music to OCR for a whole lot of reasons that over time all either resolved themselves or became irrelevant. I've been meaning to submit some stuff here for quite a while now, but haven't because I think most of my recent work hasn't deviated enough from the source material to be OCR-appropriate. At some point I'll start sending stuff in again. I just haven't yet.

    ...doesn't explain why SOMEONE hasn't submitted to R:TS yet....a-hole.

  4. We'd actually like to diversify our merch.

Doug, we will pay you with gold bullion from the farthest corners of the earth in order to have you design cool stuffs to buy.

That goes for anyone else. We'll bring this up in a more organized fashion once we have some actual $ available to produce a product.

    Been workin' on it...

    ...no, really.

In this week's epsidoe of ThaSauce Cast, SgtRama guest hosts along the starla. This episodes features a more structured format that more closely resembles of traditional radio show such as VGFrequency.

Starla and Rama discuss topics in the community including Video Games Live, the upcoming Contra IV album by SnappleMan, and the Freshly Baked reMixer Challenge on the OCRemix forums. They also showcase some songs, new and old, from throughout the community including a song off the Mega's new album "Get Equipped!", a new original by RoetaKa, and a throwback original from DiscoDan circa 2002.

    Shownotes forthcoming...

  6. Current Status:

    • Phase 1: Wednesday, January 23rd - Saturday, Febuary 2nd, 23:59PM EST
    • Phase 2: Sunday, Febuary 3rd - Saturday, Febuary 9nd, 23:59PM EST
    • Phase 3: TBD

After Phase I mixer sign-up will be locked out. However Phase I is going to last for over a week from today, Phase II will last for 1 week after that. Following that there will be roughly 5-7 days to work out song distributions, and THEN you'll have 1 month from that time to actually finish the song. So we're looking at a few weeks from now to even get started, and then a month following that.
