  1. Is this source tune an actual classical piece, or just inspired? It sounds like an actual piece to me but I can't identify it.

ReMixer : WASD Real name : Austin Green Userid: 30406 Website: www.WASDband.com Game: La-Mulana (Windows) Name of Arrangement: Monumental Subterranean eXploration Individual Song names : Mr. Explorer LA-MULANA Fearlesss Challenger Curse of Iron Pipe This song is from WASD's debut album, Shift, a collection of metal remixes from various games for Windows and DOS. As a PC gamer, I always found it disappointing that there was a lack of appreciation for the soundtracks of computer games. So, I decided to start a band that solely plays music from those games! I worked really hard on the entire album and it's been a blast putting it out. This La-Mulana track is the most melody driven track on the album, and was a real treat to put together. Hopefully you guys enjoy these riffs, melodies, harmonies, and breakdowns as much as I enjoyed creating them! And check out La-Mulana 2 when it releases later this year! Long live PC gaming! 4. This is very sweet, and I definitely like the live version of the track better than the source. The mix has too much reverb or at least needs a high pass on the reverb. I like each iteration of the melody that you've got here, including the one that has been "trucker's gear shifted" up. Ultimately though, it's just the same melody over and over with zero interpretation and nothing original added and no transitions between them, so I don't feel like this is a complete arrangement. I'd sure love to hear this back though, as a more cohesive arrangement with your own spin added to it. It's a lovely start. NO (resubmit)

Love Song" Remix Title: "Love Long Lost" Original Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFD1VRrT5F0 Additional Comments: The empty sound at the beginning and end was intentional, so don't feel as if you need to cut those parts out.
  6. ^Quote Vote^ Nuts nailed this vote. The leads imo really are the biggest issue. When the first sync lead enters at 0:44, it is PAINFULLY dry and so loud. The lead at 1:15 feels better because the contrast with the backing isn't so stark, mixing-wise... that second lead may have a touch of reverb on it, glueing it better with the track. There are several things you can do to make your lead sit better in the mix, but still shine. First, lower the volume so it's not so up-front. Give it just a touch of reverb with a long-ish predelay (90ms is a good target). Give it some very subtle delay. (Make sure you high pass reverbs and delays though, so that nothing below at least 200Hz is getting reverb or delay, as those will only provide mud.) Another thing you can do is to give your leads some filter movement. There are many ways to accomplish that, I suggest you look into it. I usually just slap on an instance of Etch because it has presets for filter movement, but you could also automate this with another plugin. I also want to add that I hear no sidechaining in the mix. If it's there, it's too subtle. You should experiment with sidechaining the kick to your bass and pads pretty heavily, and you can sidechain leads much more lightly (so it's not so obvious, but just provides some groove). In my own mixes I sidechain my kick to just about everything (even atmo and white noise sweeps!), in varying degrees. In your mix your kick isn't the greatest kick sound, but it's also buried due to lack of sidechaining. I suggest finding a better kick, and snare too. I have one more thing to add, listening again, I hear quite a few sour notes in the lead writing, and places where the melody contour gets messed up. Examples are: 1:19-1:23, 1:33-1:37 (contour messed up there), 1:53, 2:08,2:33 (sour notes), 2:45-3:00 (melody is awkward). None of this is dealbreaker, just something I noticed. NO (resubmit)

Im also known as Fungist. There is no real difference of the productions under both names, i just found "B-laze" to be harder to search for when people was looking for my music. But i preffer being listed under B-laze on OCremix so that my earlier music is grouped with my new. I Wanted to make Big Room house, its really not my domain and is my second take on the genre. After thinking shortly of some games i instantly figured out that Gobi's valley was the right track to remix. It has the eastern/egyptian theme and would fit great into a bigroom house remix. I started trying out a Lead for the main melody, and kept tweaking it until i had the preferred sound to match it with the egyptian theme of Gobi's valley. Then i just kept on producing the track using lots of sound effects from the game. When it comes to mixing Big room house it shouldn't really be a big deal, i did however end up with lots of sounds for the breakdowns and less for the monotonic climax and it did put some faults here and there but i fixed them as well as i could with my current low budget studio monitors. I have yet to seem some music of this genre on OCremix, so why not fill some more colors into the rainbow. Im currently looking through the project information as i write this and thought anyone would be interested in knowing this: Project started: 25.9.15 Total time spent producing: 20 hours 34 minutes. Project Finished: 22.01.16

  10. I love the approach, and the intro vocal clips give me chills in the best way. THIS IS A LOUD MIX. I'm seeing -4.9db RMS on this bad boy. I think the final limiter could be dialed back just a teensy bit, but that's just because anything over about -6 makes me nervous! Still I gotta admit this master is clean, I don't hear unwanted distortion. Mixing gets a little busy when the vocal clips are competing with the big bass synth, in the intro and again later on. I'm hearing enough source and I really like what you've done with it. Overall, this is pretty badass. YES

ReMixer name: sschafi1 Real name: Sean Schafianski E-mail: Submission Information Name of game(s) arranged: Final Fantasy VII Name of arrangement: Judgement-Funkadelic Name of individual song(s) arranged: Judgement Day Comments: This is my funk arrangement of Judgement Day, as featured on the album Materia: Final Fantasy VII Remixed I had a lot of fun recording this with everyone. It was quite an undertaking, mixing in tracks from eight performers and taking a few months to complete. The name is a play on the 70s band Parliament-Funkadelic. This is a drastic change in genre from the original, but I wanted to make it fun and also showcase how versatile Uematsu's music can be. We start out with an intro played by the amazing Doug Perry, before transitioning into the "head" of the chart. Marc Papeghin's drum chops suit this style of music very well and lends an impressive foundation for the track. The main melody is played through with embellishment and a drum solo transitions us into Felipe Salinas' guitar solo. He takes a chorus and Marc transitions into the very short coda with another feature. I really hope you enjoy this mix, as it was a great pleasure to produce it Credits (these musicians deserve it): Marc Papeghin - Drum Set Nuri Tett - Bass Doug Perry - Percussion Fredrik Häthén - Alto Saxophone Charles Ritz, Dutcher Snedeker - Keyboards Felipe Salinas - Guitar David Peacock - Strings

I think it lends itself well to a drum and bass meets metal fusion! Most of the bass sounds were created using Massive, except for the drums (which were part of a free sample pack I found online) and the guitar was my beat-up old Squier Strat going through POD Farm. Everything was mixed, EQed and mastered in Reaper. Hope you enjoy! Best, Jay

The Cammy theme has always been my favourite in all of Street Fighter. With this piece, my goal was to take the spirit of the original and fuse it with my favourite modern dance genre in Complextro in order to create a track designed to be light, fun and above all groovy as hell. I hope that you find it compelling and worthy of being a part of OC. Please let me know if you have any questions or queries. Thanks

I was feeling pretty burned out around the time I started this song, dealing with the compo and work stress. However, I think the 3 remixes I wrote for the compo turned out to be some of my best, and proves to me that my skills as a remixer are improving. I decided to go with a 12/8 time signature because I was having trouble getting the two sources to mix well together, and I figured the act of converting the 4/4 songs into 12/8 would spark the interpretive juices. 12/8 is such an underutlized time signature, IMO; it makes the tunes sound so fun and bouncy. I used 12/8 on Smooth Dream, and I have another remix I'm working on in that time signature. They're all partially inspired by Kubbi's Gravity. Sorry to ramble! Hope you like the remix!

ReMixer & real name: Eino Keskitaloe-mail: Names of games arranged: Legend of Dragoon Name of Arrangement: Pale Ale from Bale Names of individual songs arranged: Royal Capital Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjoUI1ZVne4 This is for Hakstock's PSX project. Ivan asked for an unmastered WAV, so the album version is probably going to have a better sound and should be the one posted (assuming this passes). This was originally done for HoboKa's Meat 'n' Potatoes compo round #22 (http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/MnP22) so the source usage should be straightforward. I was going to finish this for the Hometown Heroes project, but since it unfortunately fizzled out (great concept!), I'm happy Ivan adopted it for the PlayStation album. I wanted to do something quick and simple, so I fired up Renoise, put a C64 drum loop on, figured out an easy, somewhat droning guitar riff off the source and built from there with a bunch of synth samples. The structure is simple and repeating, but I tried to put in a lot of small-scale variation, especially post-compo. The guitar recording quality is a bit poor I'm afraid, but by now you can probably tell I'm into pretty lo-fi stuff anyway.. cheers, --Eino

This arrangement began as I had the theme Turned into a Rabbit! pop into my head one day and I had the thought, “That would make some cool action music!” After beginning an arrangement and getting through about the first thirty seconds of music, I realized that the one theme alone would be good but it would work better if I added another theme. Enter the Boss ~BGM~. After lots of work, I ended up with the piece as it currently stands. Some of my favorite parts of the piece are those that I wasn’t expecting. When I had about two minutes’ worth of music I hit a wall and couldn’t decide where to go next. It was then the solo piano and percussion introduction came to be and I think it sets the tone well for the piece. The ending also came somewhat unexpectedly as a result of the piano intro. Once the introduction was complete I knew I wanted to do a similar thing to end the piece but adding in the entire orchestra. The results create both a “home” to start from and “home” to return to that gives the piece not only a stratifying return to the beginning but a victorious finish.

  22. previous decision Hi, It's been a while since I've been active on OCRemix. It's been a while since I've been active in the whole music scene altogether. I've sent this track in about 2 or 3 years ago and it got rejected, mainly because of repetitiveness and production issues. I've since then been away from my DAW for a while (call it a sabbatical if you will) and latelty I'm picking up the pace again. But I never could let go of this one remix that just barely got rejected. So I revised it, time after time, and with help from the good people on the interwebs (you guys know who you are) I think this one is now done.
