  1. Your ReMixer name: MrKyle Your real name: Kyle M Raub Your email address: Your website: http://eiravaein.com Your userid: 22266 Submission Information Name of game arranged: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Name of arrangement: "La Gran Manantial De Salsa" (or "The Great Salsa Fountain" if OCRx prefers it) Song Link: Name of individual song(s) arranged: Great Fairy's Fountain Additional information about game including composer, system, etc. (if it has not yet been added to the site): All there Link to the original soundtrack: already on site Mix Comments: Early this April, my best friend since I was 4 years old got married. I was the Best Man and part of my gift to my buddy and his wife (cheers Jared and Stephanie!) was a dedicated composition in the style of their own choosing. They said, "We'd like something like a salsa or a tango...something upbeat and fun that we can dance to." Stephanie is very closely tied to Argentinian culture and Jared is a lead programmer for a game company...hence, "The Great Salsa Fountain" was conceived. I wanted to write a piece that incorporated the flavors of salsa and tango but which also had just a bit of a tongue-in-cheek feel at times. I didn't actually decide on the Fountain track at first. One of the first things that Jared and I bonded over as kids was gaming. And since we both had SEGAs, I tried to find a track from Road Rash, Phantasy Star, Sonic, etc since the tie in was more personal. But, alas, after thinking about nothing but salsas and tangos for many days and playing through the OoT OST, Fountain just hit me. Done. (There is actually a tinge of Gerudo Valley in there as well, but that was more serendipitous than anything else and wasn't part of the original ReMix concept so I didn't include it up top.) The piece was arranged on piano and guitar first with a latter heavy shift toward the piano since it just "danced" better for the track. It is a blend of MIDI-controlled VSTs, synths, and acoustic instruments (guitars, some hand percs, FX). The big thing that I really wanted to put into this track was the Spanish crowd calls that are most often associated with the salsa genre. I tried of couple of things that just didn't work and then decided to give some game FX a try. Link and Navi's voices, though needing some moderate processing to make them fit, worked really well. Though really, how could I not use "Hey, Listen!" ? ... I didn't really want the voices to dominate at all; just act as a reminder of those crowd calls. This was just a ton of fun to make and I hope others enjoy it. Cheers! --------------------------------------
  2. Oh my. Interesting and bold ideas here, mixing synth timbres and electronic drums with sampled brass. Unfortunately the brass is falling completely flat here with zero realism. It will take quite a bit of articulation layering to get those brass lines sounding anywhere near real, I'm afraid. It's a huge pain in the ass, I know. But what's here just isn't doing it. The drums are on autopilot and not very interesting. There are long stretches in this remix with whole notes one after the other, like 0:48-1:12, and 1:36-2:24 where there isn't much of interest going on. At 2:00 an arp pattern starts up that isn't mixed very well or this just isn't a good timbre. Sorry to come down so hard on this track but I think there's a ton more work needed to get it passable. 3. Hello OCR joojs! Hope you're all doing well! Note: This remix is part of the "Untitled 2014 FIFA EP" made by Ivan Hakštok for OCR. Contact Information Chernabogue Alexandre Mourey fflproduction.fr Submission Information Mario Strickers Charged (Football) "Ball of Steel" "Road to the Stricker Cup": YouTube Link Composers (from Mario Wiki): Mike Peacoc, Darren Radtk, Chad York System: Nintendo Wii Though I'm not a fan of sports/soccer games, I played a lot of MSCF with my friends. We love this game (and we love destroying other teams with Bowser). This EP was the opportunity to pay tribute to a game I love, and to a music I really think is under-appreciated. I planned to mix brass that sound epic/encouraging with electro elements, and I think it works quite well. Enjoy the FIFA 2014 EP, it was a really interesting idea, and I'm glad I could contribute! 4. Greetings, here's a good one I think, and the first mix I finished in 2014. Final Fantasy 2 album Source: Dead Music, Rebel Army Theme Dead Music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwLMPSeFqWc Rebel Army: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xV0E88C7ck ReMix: Brandon Strader, DetectiveTuesday, and Chernabogue Since Chernabogue originally made 2 attempts at the structure for this, I shall open up with his comments first: "This mix was first started a long time ago, when the FF2 project started recruiting in 2012. My first attempt to remix this track was a brutal metal mix. But later, Brandon suggested to change it, as it wouldn't fit the theme. So I wrote another arrangement, more acoustic/dramatic-oriented in a very short amount of time. Brandon decided to take ideas from both arrangements to create the final mix. I contributed by writing a short prayer in Latin and doing some background vocals. In the end, I really love the final mix, and am proud to be part of such a cool album. See you all in FF3...! " I am very appreciative to Chernabogue and the lot of work he put in. And I apologize to him for asking for more and more, an then ultimately changing the song completely. It was much more of a change than "Requiem for a Dying World" which was basically me slowing it down by 50% and switching between mellotrons and orchestral strings like a crazy person. Ultimately, I am hoping that this mix will strike you as much less divisive, as it is quite enjoyable. That's not to discredit the lot of work Chernabogue put into this of course, as the final structure is very much inspired by Chernabogue's structure of his second attempt. He originally wanted to end with FF1 Dead Music, but for this mix I chose to go with Rebel Army theme because it felt much more natural, and contextually it was PERFECT. And I like the fact that the album features Rebel Army as: solo piano, electronica, acoustic, metal, and... that thing BONKERS did... Very important motif. Chernabogue said his choir vocals were sort of church styled(?) so I tried to expand on that with a little reverb to really bring out the cathedral sound to them. I love it. I love that this is also the first overtly Christian mix I was able to make for the site with his help. I am calling this Rebellion because this song really expresses my feelings of what the album and the concept of "Rebellion" means to me. That's why it starts with "Dead Music" and ends with "Rebel Army". Though we may lose loved ones and randomly encounter many unfortunate events, in the end we must remain strong and have the resolve to carry on. Chernabogue's latin prayer is the ribbon that ties up the mix perfectly. Tuesday, aka DetectiveTuesday, aka Anton, brought a really incredible sax solo for the song. It's so much more complex and jazzy than I could have imagined, but I knew what the man was capable of after hearing him jam at MAGFest 12. When pressed for a statement, this is all he had to say: 'Brandon made me do it.'" Requiem Aeternam dona eis, Domine; Repræséntet eas in lucem sanctam; Et lux perpetua luceat eis. Requiescant in pace. Amen.
  5. I'm not picking out much Sunken City here at all. There's a lot of original soloing that's cool but unrecognizable as Sunken City. In fact, this almost sounds more like a remix of the other source, the anime. Ok, proper source breakdown time. I hear Sunken City melody (five notes) at: 0:03-0:18 15 seconds 0:46-1:01 15 seconds 1:12-1:16 4 seconds 1:30-2:00 30 seconds 64 seconds of a 120 second track, or 53%. It squeaks by, but still feels more like the anime tune overall. On the production side, the lead is quite dry and piercy, needs some reverb. The drum groove is on autopilot. The production is not too bad but that lead is so dry. The song is super short and has an abrupt ending. This one isn't doing much for me, I'm afraid. NO
  6. Your ReMixer name: urdailywater Your real name: Aaron Corbitt This is a song for the Lime of the Season Project. I highly doubt it'll even be on the panel by release date, but please don't do anything with this 'till that comes out. Remix name: Drowning in a Sea of Bass Source Game: Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons Source: Sunken City: This was a very fun song to do. It's pretty liberal in fact, 'cause the source is so sparse. I try my best to keep it in though, especially during the chorus parts. I try to especially put in a lot of source towards the end. This was a first in trying a completely electronic, poppy, fore on the floor beat driven track. It was pretty fun to do and fun to listen to. I wasn't planning on submitting this at first, but I do feel like it's worth trying if anything. I enjoy it, hopefully you do! oh yeah, this was majorly inspired by the kill me baby ed, especially the bass. . if you didn't like this, that does a much better job at what was trying to be accomplished. dumb anime, catchy song.-------------------------------- Sunken City: Kill Me Baby (anime):
  7. The acoustic intro and outro are lovely but the source connection is tenuous, it only seems to be chord progression. The transition at 0:57 into metal is a bit jarring, but then the source melody comes through clearly. I find the production of the acoustic and metal portions both quite good. I wish the transitions were a bit more transitiony. The source use here is "nebulous" indeed though. I'm concerned that I only hear chord progressions except for: 1:01-1:32 and 2:29-3:00. That's only 62 seconds of source melody. Ok, I'll do this properly: 0:04-1:01 chord progressions 57 seconds 1:01-1:32 source melody 31 seconds 1:32-2:29 seems to be original (awesome, but no source) 2:29-3:00 source melody 31 seconds 3:00-3:34 chord progressions 34 seconds If we count the intro and outro (chord progressions), we get 71% source. Without the intro and outro, only 29%. This is tough. Someone please correct me if there is source in that middle section that I'm not counting. Ok, listening again. I find the intro and outro too liberal, I have to really strain to connect it to source, in fact I really can't. If there could be some hints of melody in there, even a little bell timbre or something, that would do it. Otherwise this is good to go. Hopefully we can get just a bit more melody in the intro/outro, or even another source added in, or something. NO (resubmit)
  8. Remixer: Harjawaldar Real name: Mads Smebakk Email: Website: https://www.youtube.com/user/Harjawaldar UserID: 5793 Game: Pikmin 3 Song title: Nebulous Existence Composers of OST: Asuka Hayazaki, Atsuko Asashi and Hajime Wakai Specific theme: Fruit analysis Link: Comments: I'd never played Pikmin before and because there were so few games available for the Wii U, I went ahead and got Pikmin 3. I was surprised by how beautiful it was, music and visuals. After hearing the fruit analysis theme one time, I knew this was going to happen. So while the music was playing on the TV, I hooked up my guitar and started riffing along. It's a very simple melody, that is atmospheric and melancholic. I remember a youtube comment on the theme: "this music makes me sad". Yes, but in a good way! -------------------
  9. Shaun, why are you selling all that stuff? Looks like you've switched to Reason, is that the reason? Also, Camel Audio is CLOSED??? Oh DAMMIT. I have Alchemy and I love it, but more than one or two instances crashes any file. I was hoping they were coming out with a new and more stable version. Illusion shattered! Boo hoo.....
  10. Awesome, thanks! I thought I heard a brief bit of Avien in there too (one of my favorites from the zircon presets). Oh and I love breakdown, another favorite!
  11. Hey T, I'm really liking they synth leads you're using here, do you mind telling me what they are (if they are presets), or sharing the presets with me? I really like the lead that starts at 0:28.
  12. Really nice so far! Great lead sounds, great bass and piano too! Looking forward to the final version.
  13. This track appears to be nearly a midi-rip sound-upgrade up until 1:55. I layered the remix with the original and found almost no writing difference other than a slightly faster tempo. After 1:55 though, things get really interesting, fun sfx and percussion, lots of varied timbres, it really gets quite creative after 1:55. Awesome sfx, little funky bits, brass stuff, string stabs, varied groovy percussion, cool stuff! Then at 4:00 however, the arrangement slows down to such a crawl... WOW it is slow all the way until the end at 6:25. That's 2:25-worth of outro. Blarg. This track does a lot right, and a lot wrong. The first 1:55 is dealbreakingly close to source, it's verbatim with new instruments. Sadly this blows it right there. 1:55-4:00 is super, SUPER cool. 4:00-6:25 is a long slog to the end. I'd love to hear this again with the first 1:55 differentiated from the source more, and with the outro starting at 4:00 cut by at least half if not more. NO (resubmit)
  14. remikser: Nase game: Super Metroid remix title: Maridian Meltdown arranged track: Upper Maridia Hi. This one was done for the meat n potatoes thingy, and it shows at the start. felt like just using the metroid samples and some fx for a while and just paying tribute. maybe some sections are too verbatim, but idk, i neither view it as a cover nor a sound upgrade despite a lot of the notation itself being close. recorded some kitchen/power tools stuff for this, was fun. cheers! ------------------------
  15. Alex has combined the sources into a very cohesive piece that definitely conveys a story. I have to agree that the samples are used quite well. My only gripe would be during 1:14 to 1:37, and again from 3:00 to 3:20, the attack of the high strings is slow, and possibly adding in one extra articulation (so that not all the attacks are the same) could have made those sections sound a bit more real, but I'm nitpicking (and I know what a pain it is to layer articulations). It's moody, dark, and mixed well, and I like it! YES
  16. As with your other submission (Sub Zero), I had not heard the source song before listening to your remix. And as with the other one, wow I really don't like this source! The melody is nice but the backing is dissonant and what's up with that duck-like bass thing? Odd source. That said, I like your remix a million times better. You've represented the melody quite conservatively, but you made the backing chord structure so much nicer. Super relaxing ambient soundscape you've set up. I love how you've used percussion and the ocean sfx to give each section such a unique groove, that helps keeps the simple melody from getting old. And of course I love all the Omnisphere bell timbres! I wasn't sure about that final solo before, I love the writing but the timbre (and its envelope) needed to grow on me. I think I now get the mood you were going for with that sound. I actually wish there was a bit more solo in that section, either with that sound or another additional sound, just to get a bit more of you in there. The whole track is mixed really well and it's a nice chill listen. YES
  17. You guys should definitely check this out, it's one of the best produced and mixed albums by WillRock so far. Lots of additional talent (guitars and vocals) on this EP as well. Cool stuff! (and dat scary artwork!)
  18. I've slacked off on rallying everyone for this album. That is going to change. I'll be checking in with each of you to find out where you're at with your tracks! SO GET WORKING ON THEM.
  19. I like this a lot, there is plenty of source and nice interpretation and the guitar playing is lovely. The pad and other elements do add a Vangelis flavor. The playing is quite dynamic. Am I imagining that I hear some distortion on the louder notes? I'm going to vote yes but I'll be interested to see if I'm the only one hearing this. edit 2/14/15: I still like this. I hear what the other judges are saying about the arrangement not evolving, but I think it works for what it is, what it's intention is. If the guitar is sequenced, you did a super good job, with added guitar squeaks. If it was played, I suspect it was played through a plugin or device that allows for layering of the guitar with other sounds, in this case the ethereal pad. Either way, I still love this. But I'm going to kick it back to have you address those too-loud, distorted notes. Tame that, and you have my yes. NO (resubmit)
  20. Idunno. There are a lot of fun details here, but a lot of the instrumentation is very generic and the writing is stiff and unsophisticated. The beats are generic and the hats are dry, all one velocity, and sound like a loop. I have to listen again for source use. Interesting arrangement for sure.
  21. Remixer name: killingpepsi Real name: Jack email: Forum ID #: 50218 Game: Donkey Kong 64 Name of arrangement: Kong Industries, Inc. Name of song(s) arranged: Frantic Factory Game composer: Grant Kirkhope Original: Remix: Comments: I started this track around late spring-ish 2013 and it has been being slightly developed from time to time since then to now. I'm one of those 90's Rareware kids (even thoug I was only born in '96, that's what I grew up on) and I still play them today go figure. Those composers have had a huge impact on my musical appreciation and development and I still have much to learn in the ways of composing and arranging. Thank you for putting up with my two previous submissions, I hope this one stands up a little better. -----------------------------------------------
  22. This is a pretty conservative arrangement of this 7/8 source but I like the slow burn metal interpretation. Is it too conservative? It could definitely be mixed better, the drums are really distant. The guitar work sounds good though. I'm going to withhold my vote until I see what others say on this. If this doesn't pass, I'm hopeful to hear his newer stuff as he has indicated that his mixing has improved. This is very promising! edit 2/18/15: Listening again, I still really like this. It does have some issues that have been pointed out, the mixing could definitely be better and Larry has a point about half the song lacking a lead. Even so, this sounds really good. If this is a taste of things to come from you, color me interested, I can't wait to hear more from you. But please take the criticisms mentioned in this thread to heart! I gotta go with YES
  23. Contact info Remixer name: AntLion Real name: Sean Simons Email address: User ID: 53342 Submission info Name of game arranged: Final Fantasy VI Name of arrangement: All Your Espers Are Belong To Us Name of individual song arranged: All Your Espers Are Belong To Us (The original song name is "Another World of Beasts") Comments: I'm really not sure if this is worthy of being on OCRemix given the crazy amount of talent on your site. I made this 3 years ago as a way of learning how to use Logic. It's pretty muddy sounding, and a little more metal / buttrock than I'd prefer. If it's not good enough to be hosted on OCRemix, no hard feelings. I'm a bit more skilled with recording and mixing these days, so hopefully I'll be able to submit better quality arrangements in the future. Thanks -------------------------------------------------
  24. This is a lovely version of this source with the piano and ethereal pad. The playing is lovely. The ocean sounds are nice. I am loving the mixture of time signatures, 6/8 then 4/4. One issue, what is that sound at 0:54? Is it a boat's horn? That's gotta go, whatever it is! (if you guys agree with me I'll get in touch with him) YES (conditional on getting rid of the sound at 0:54)
