  1. Boy, this really is impressive! What's ironic is I don't like the source tune, but this remix makes it so much more palatable. I love how things move forward at 1:00 and fall back around 1:35, giving it a feel like you're having a fun chess game with a friend on a tropical beach with a cold drink in your hand - no reason to hustle or stress, just an easy and fun time at your side while you rest on your chair and talk. Easy, relaxing - really enjoyable!!
  2. Gods, this is so metal it took me about 1:05 in to find the melody - I was too distracted by the metal - but once I did it was unmistakable. In some ways I'm happy it took me a bit, because then I was still around for 1:45-2:00 and the crazy faded-with-metal 3:15+ sections. It's out there, it's a lot, but there's definitely some gems in here, even for non-metal fans. An impressive effort!
  3. Tremendously fun! The mix does come across as two separate efforts, but it is kind of fascinating how well they work together; the second part is smoother but not as rocking, while the first is absolutely kicking but doesn't have the suave-ness of the latter. Combined, you have it all. Great stuff!
  4. WOW, at 0:45 or so. Don't leave this listen until at least 1:30, where the weaving brass is saucy and smooth. It's not even my style and I find myself blown away at the way the bass and the horns work on what is an eminently recognizable melody - it's simultaneously not changed and an entire different song all at the same time. That point, I think, is what really shows how quality this mix is. Well done. ...Man, who knew that Esto Gaza had a jazz club?!?
  5. Wow, how did I miss this the first time around?! It's a wonderful song for this kind of take. I feel like I'm wearing fine dress and sipping a drink while looking out the window of an airship, perhaps a zeppelin, while a master pianist caresses the ivories nearby. Airy, simple, sweet.
  6. Oh my god, if you can't have fun listening to this and/or find yourself bopping along, you have no life and/or soul. What a wonderfully distinct, upbeat mix. MAJOR props!!! That I can listen to heavy metal and this in back to back songs is part of what makes OCRemix such a gem of a site, but no juxtaposition is necessary to enjoy this great mix. I wish I could hear more songs like this.
  7. Man, this is what the terms 'heavy' and 'metal' were put together for in the first place. Old school power and some truly great attention to pace - the track luxuriates in delivering powerful notes but isn't ponderous, a really neat accomplishment - bring this song to an upper echelon of hardcore FF. No tricks here - just downright heavy and GREAT metal. Loved it.
  8. Expressive. Dark, yet with burgeoning hope. Alternatively light and powerful, the arrangement really shines at parts like 2:45-3:14 where themes interplay and meld beautifully. I think my favorite part about this piece is how it slowly transitions from a sinister feel to one of resilence, mirroring the FF6 Terra story (as described by the remixer above). There's no sudden "aha!" moment where this occurs; the gradual sense of resolve really just keeps growing, highlighted by moments like 4:05 and 5:25 on. An enjoyable, moving experience!!
  9. Not my style - but just because it's not my style doesn't mean it doesn't belong here. Props to those who decided on adding lyrics to a song I thought you couldn't add lyrics to if you tried. I'm glad this site gives people the opportunity to try something on the outer rim, even if it's not always something I like.
  10. WOW. This is a debut piece?!? This sounds like the remixer has been living in this kind of arrangement forever! What a beautiful piece. There are plenty of nice sections and touches - the harmonies at 1:20, the dancing touches of bells over the gorgeous flute work around 2:15, - but the real joy of this piece is how seamlessly the pieces meld together. The best way to experience this piece is just to immerse yourself in it, instead of trying to constantly follow the melody; the piece will continually reward you with the way it floats in and out and around you. Wonderful and flowing, this is truly a slow, beautiful walk through a lost, sun-dappled forest with a sense of wonder and a hint of magic on the breeze. As a side note, the Ice Forest from Secret of Mana was always a favorite forest theme of mine.
  11. I loved hearing about the remixer's journey towards this song. I totally understand what it is to be afraid to remix one of the most cherished themes in your library (mine is from Final Fantasy Adventure!), so I hope you understand when I say that you have truly accomplished your goal. The transition section starting at 2:10 really shines as an example of the beauty and range of the piece. Special props to the emotive and powerful ending. Congratulations, Level 99 - you've done FFT proud.
  12. You get about 9 seconds to get situated before this mix takes over and kicks your ass. Where to start? The astonishing solo at 1:19? The section at 1:52 with the crazy-full harmony? The I-don't-know-what-to-call-it static/snow/breakups at 2:28+ that are matched up with a lone melody in some crazy mixture of beauty and hardcore? How about the crazy 5:00-5:35 section where there's just too much awesome to let anyone calm down? Even the ending seems beautifully fitting! The fullness of this arrangement demands closing your eyes and appreciating the attention to detail and the beautiful way different instruments wax and wane throughout the arrangement, turning this mix into nothing short of a freaking rockhouse. I love it. Major props to the remixer. So impressed!!
  13. Okay, first and foremost, I thought that this source tune, while cute, would NEVER support a full remix. And then this... this.... this. I want to mention that many of my songs I've downloaded from OCRemix that I ended up liking ended up being XPRTNovice, and I was like, 'who is this remixer'? So when I saw the name I knew I had to give it a try. GOOD WORD EVERYONE, GIVE THIS A TRY. I cannot impress enough the crazy feeling of - well, the writeup said it well - walking down a bazaar, then taking a wrong turn, getting drunk at a standing kiosk, and stumbling through the streets. It's so perfect. If this is what the artist created in 24 hours, they need to just do that more often. Also, the ending. What a great, unique song. "I'll show ya a magic tower", indeed.
  14. Somewhere, there are going to people who hear this song and think, "Hey, that's an interesting sound", and just leave it at that. I hope the remixer knows that there are people who listened to this and were truly impressed at the quality and feel that was created for this mix!! Well done!!
  15. Ok, after listening to this I do see the judges' argument; there are times that it is tough to pick out the original source, and the mix does keep you off-balance. But after an initial minute, this thing starts hitting all levels of awesome. 2:15-3:00 is especially great (and recognizable), and I am majorly impressed with the different feel and emotions the artist was able to create; the fadeout and quiet of 3:42-4:05 with the single, faint, high screech behind was FABULOUS, reminiscent of Doom and some downright eerie metal writing. Goes to prove that you need not blow out ear drums all the time to really grab the listener - well done!! Overall, I was quite impressed. Yes, maybe the first minute and late 4's are a little varied off the original, but I have to say that the interest, sheer range of quality in the mix, and those amazing sections are so worth the listen! Grab and enjoy something different than a simple metal verison of this source - this one is complex and thoughtfully dangerous.
  16. Boy, I'm not even a fan of the source (one of my least favorite Sonic tunes) and yet I felt compelled to comment how quality this mix is! Interesting, upbeat, and absolutely not at all repetitive yet isn't just some randomly thrown together half-sourced instrumental mix, this thing has a beat and a purpose. Must give you props for the quality and the vision!
  17. I'm new to the Megas, so perhaps I'm late to the game, but WOW this is an impressively engaging and agressive vision - lyrical rock to Mega Man. And damned if the lyrics aren't REALLY good - these aren't just words for the sake of words. I see what people are talking about with the 80's power rock - it's actually perfect. I can't imagine that's an accident. Congrats to this entire group - pretty amazing. I will be checking out more from these artists.
  18. So I must say that this mix seems all over the place - though reading about its origins makes it a lot more clear - and I have to say that its haphazard nature keeps me from truly enjoying a fully realized piece. Within that context, however, this thing is amazing, particularly 2:00-2:45 or so, where it's nothing but pure, unfiltered goodness. Wow that's a great section. I think my take on this mix is a lot like that - a lot of great sections that seem sort of haphazardly brought together. If this kind of wild arrangement can be this quality, I envision some great pieces in the future!
  19. This may not be my normal style, but even I must mention the high-level of quality and impressive on-genre delivery of this song. I may not drink coffee, but I can smell a really good cup when it passes by; well played, Icebreaker.
  20. Boy, you can really tell when a piece is reaching for the stars, and this one is it. This is a big concept and a bigger vision, and I'm so happy that the piece's quality lives up to it. 2:10 on particularly soars in this arrangment, bringing the song up to the point where the Latin and subsequent musical changes really work - I feel like I just witnessed words by a few survivors being spoken over their fallen rebellion comrades (Josef?) as they contemplate what they have accomplished in standing up to the Imperial Army. Congratulations on making a signature piece of an album. Worthy and memorable.
  21. This is like being out at a fine restaurant with an excellent bottle of wine on a cool evening with a comfortable romance across from you - elegant and calm, beautiful and easy. Special props to the thoughtful, almost sit-back-and-look-at-the-sky contemplative take on the Rebel Army theme. Gorgeous, and a welcome counterpoint to what I've heard on the rest of the album. This kind of simplicity lets me appreciate the hard rocking all the more.
  22. What just happened to me?!? Oh my heavens. Even those who can't handle total crazy - and trust me, my eyebrows almost raised off my head at the first 30 seconds - need to listen to 1:00 through 2:30 AT MINIMUM, particularly the breakdowns starting around 2:00 - these are some really talented interpretations of the source. Of course, the piece, as a whole, is completely dunked in a frying vat of insanity, but even that can't totally hide the talent underneath. I'm not sure I can recommend this - but man, you should at least give it a try.
  23. This starts off as a decent cover of the Imperial Army Theme until about 1:40, where everything gets thrown several steps up the awesome ladder. By the time we're at 2:20-245 plus, get ready to grab your stones and torches. There is an uprising, with a sword raised to the sky and a defiant shout at the relentlessly approaching imperial army. Man, this mix really gets better as it goes along. Interesting ending too! Do yourself a favor and keep listening past the first minute. Great stuff awaits.
  24. This mix is the best acid trip you've ever taken. First and foremost, I love Find Your Way, and to see it used as a backbone of FF2 themes is shocking and tremendously impressive, especially in that it is supporting both quiet and rocking sections with equal aplomb. The transition at 2:55 is stellar - I can barely believe how the mix shifts - and the pace gets dialed down harder and ramped up faster as the piece goes along. It's like being on a ride in which two people are fighting over the power controls.... and yet it works, and works in ways that are truly wondrous. The sailing ending truly left me amazed at the range of the piece. FULL COMMENDATIONS to the artist and this piece - an instant download and joy!
  25. An interpretation best listened to if you're very familiar with Prelude, but within that sphere this arrangement crushes its goal. Echoes to other posters that mention the pulling together of the piece post-2:15. The best thing I can say is that this is truly a refreshing AND great take on Prelude, which is a really hard combo to do! If the rest of the album has this level of talent, I'm getting it!
