  1. Does this have a bass guitar? It is either too low or non existant, and having a good bass always helps rock songs. Anyway, the remix is nice and fun. Maybe, just maybe, adding a pad as background could work in making it a bit better.
  2. This is a fun little remix, but I have to agree with Gario that it feels empty. The percussions are pretty weak imo too.
  3. The drums are a bit strange. I think they would fit a lot more if you added in a bass guitar doing some funky stuff with the drums rhytm. I liked the melodies though. The piano at the ending is nice, even though some parts of it sound too mechanical.
  4. I wouldn't have expected an orchestral theme of this song I like how it sounds but I hope the finished version has more variations. You could try and experiment with changing the tune to a minor tone and stuff like that.
  5. I like the sound of the main synth, but I have a few things to point out: 1. The sound of the acoustic guitar is kind of too agressive. I imagine it should be more mellow, make it have more release. 2. The song sounds a bit empty. Maybe the bass and drums are too low. Add something to create a background. Other than that, it sounds good!
  6. When I started I always had trouble with the intros and endings of the songs. I could never get to sound them right... I didn't know (and still don't) much music theory too, but I think it hasn't affected the quality of my stuff too much. I just wish I knew some jazz theory because some of those chord progressions are so cool.
  7. I thought about doing that but since this is a competition it would be kind of unfair imo.
  8. Lanayru was the best part of the game IMO. The "time travelling" mechanics there were so cool and beautiful looking. I loved the little robots too.
  9. I'm not experienced at all, but if you know the notes, you can try playing them on your preferred instrument and see if you get inspiration to do something. Are you planning on doing any particular style for the remix? By the way, I am wanting feedback on my WIP for this competition. PM me or something if you are interested!
  10. Nice to see someone who knows Frost*! I like Hyperventilate more than BLM though
  11. I've been playing with Reaper and some VSTs (mostly from here: http://www.dskmusic.com/ ) and I encountered some strange issues. Some of the VSTs sound out of tune. It happened with the ChoirZ (slightly with this one) and Synthopia (very out of tune) ones. Is that because the VST is meant to sound like that or I'm doing something wrong? Also, when I load a piano soundfont and a drum soundfont, the piano seems to "lag" and starts playing quick arpeggios instead of straight chords. How can I fix that?
  12. But asking for a MIDI isn't a sin. You can transcribe stuff and want to check or compare some notes with a MIDI. I agree that it's better to learn stuff by ear, but people don't always have the time/patience/will to do so, and there's nothing wrong with that.
  13. That's the point to me too. I'm more insecure about my production (lack of good samples and no experience at editing them) than about the quality of my arrangement though.
  14. Marillion - This Strange Engine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCyLYtq2SY0&feature=relmfu So underrated...
  15. Wow this is very interesting. I may participate if I manage to learn how to produce decent sounding stuff by the deadline. Probably not going to win anything, but participating is always fun!
  16. Oh, the Kronos is like 2 times the price of the M50 where I live, which is why I discarded it. Thanks for the advice by the way! Some internet comments mentioned some glitches in the M50, like the screen freezing or some notes getting frozen. Do you know if that's common/true?
  17. It sounds beautiful. I had no idea that instrument could sound like that. Like Skrypnyk said, there are a few too slow parts at the beggining, but it is amazing anyway.
  18. I'd love to buy a Kronos but it is WAY to expensive, especially where I live. I used to own a Korg X5D and played live a few times and never had any issues, so I don't think I'll be disappointed with the M50 in that way. I've not tried it yet though, but I hope to do so soon.
  19. Hey, I want to buy a new keyboard soon and I got interested in the Korg M50. Does anybody here have any experiences with it? Is it recommended? My budget allows me to buy something more expensive than the M50 but I don't really want to spend much more than the M50's price.
  20. The cymbals sound a bit too loud, you should work on that. I'm a bit surprised that your arrangement manages to sound happier than the original source Even though you use the same chord progression for the whole song, it doesn't feel repetitive (maybe thanks to the drums). However, the song could maybe reach higher levels if you experimented a bit more, like changing tone or something. Maybe, making more than minor variations. After all, the source is like 10 seconds long.
  21. This is quite cool. It isn't very different to the original arrangement-wise but the sounds used are nice. Using the xylophone at the beggining was a good choice and the strings sound nice. The drums are a bit weird in my opinion, they sound a bit off-beat, but I don't know if that's just me. Anyway, I enjoyed it.
  22. Football Manager has its frustrating moments, like losing a league when you had a 7 point advantage or managing big clubs and losing against small ones... Yoshi's Story was indeed ver unsatisfying, especially when compared with the amazaing Yoshi Island. I remember being very frustrated with some minigames in Banjo Kazooie/Tooie and Donkey Kong 64 when I was a kid.
  23. Some songs from the demo are impressive. With better sound quality this will be badass.
  24. I loved it. The source is really short and you managed to make the remix a decent length. I especially liked the piano (not sure how the sound is called, chorus/rhodes piano?). You have some nice remixes uploaded btw. EDIT: One very small complaint is that the drums are a bit loud at some sections and the melodies are a bit hard to appreciate.
  25. The bass is a bit loud, I had to lower the bass in my speakers to actually hear the rest of the instruments. Anyway, I like the idea behind the mix. The drums are fine in my opinion, though you could try using the ride cymbal, maybe it matches the mood of the song more. For the piano you could use some chords to back the melody. Also, you could try experimenting a bit more with the melody (making the melody play some higher notes in the ending for example). I hope you also add the rest of the melodies from the original source. I think you will though, since this WIP is very short.
