Yeah, seems weird to make people pay to basically beta test a hero. They get less feedback that way, and if it's broken the people who do pay for it get even more angry.

Next patch: no more denies. Seriously though, how much do heroes cost for newbies (I'm at work right now)? I saw someone on the forums say that Early Access for Monkey King was $7 which is...ouch. Even if they were 50 cents each, it'd cost over $40 to get everyone. I'm feeling pretty good about my gold shield now.

According to the Googles, it really doesn't hurt to use lithium-ion-powered gadgets before they're fully charged. The battery gauge might not calibrate correctly, but it resets the next time it's fully charged.

In the 3DS games I've played so far that use it, the surround effect is actually pretty incredible.

Guh, I'm seriously considering returning my Amazon pre-order when it gets here and buying a copy today so I can register it on Club Nintendo for the bonus soundtrack, even though I know I'll listen to it once and then it'll collect dust. Why does Amazon never have release-day shipping for stuff I actually want on release day?

Like any gimmick, the novelty does wear off a little bit. But since it's a graphical effect as opposed to, say, a control scheme, it doesn't get tiresome IMO. It's neat and complements the experience, like surround sound. You might even miss it a little when it's off. I've always been a fan of the effect...anything that increases the immersion factor is a plus in my book.
