  1. Using that line of reasoning, a more accurate statement would be "all DAWs suck at orchestral music." [1] References 1. My entire SoundCloud page.
  2. Originals: I original submitted this in 2014, but it got rejected. The judges thought the Lavender town section was boring, so I made it more interesting. Some judges also thought it was too long, so I made it longer. (Although I've cut it into two parts - this is the first.) This is mostly a remix of Lavender Town, Tower, and the Wild Pokemon Battle theme, but it also has some elements of Route 3, and Route 11.
  3. The one reminds me of the quieter part of a 70's cop movie soundtrack, I'm really fond of the style. (I don't know how to describe that style any better, see "Man with Icey Eyes" or " James Clarke ‎– Mystery Movie" to see what I mean.) The arrangement isn't really complicated, but I think it's better because of it.
  4. I think not wanting to live in what many people consider to be horror games falls under the "no shit" category.
  5. I have a personal theory that people in Pokemon don't really use weapons because trained Pokemon are much more powerful, smart and versatile. Um, what stops them? The will of God? I think the only reason we don't see that stuff in the games/anime is because the writers don't want to go that route.
  6. Is it cheating if I enter something that I've been working on for years already?
  7. I've always thought Tamriel would be a better fantasy land to live in than most others. Is isn't as depressing as some others, I really like the races, (mostly the Argonians,) and it seems like the kind of place where any peasant could go out and have an adventure. The downside is that there's a lot of things that could kill me; the world is overrun with bandits.
  8. This is a fantastic remix of a source I'm actually familiar with. I kept anticipating the arp from the source to come in... and this song kept teasing me with it. I was disappointed when it ended!
  9. I haven't listened to the second version too closely yet, but right now - I didn't say that you should change the delay of the bell for the entire song! I liked it, I only thought it was a problem at the beginning when it was playing by itself.
  10. In the intro, without the context of any of the other instruments, the timing of the delay on the bell is a bit awkward. There's nothing to indicate what the beat is, so it sounds like it's skipping ahead each new note. Having said that though, I think the intro sounds a bit dull in general, and that more instruments, perhaps gradually being layered on, is exactly what it needs. Perhaps you could change the delay timing on the bell anyways though, for variety sake. As long as there was some more variations and new instruments, I think I'd like to see the length extended a bit.
  11. I'm glad "going back" doesn't also include using only Genesis-esque sounds, (i.e. - Sonic 4,) which would show a very shallow understanding of why classic Sonic worked.
  12. I wasn't being sarcastic, I thought this might be a joke. Evidently not. I'm sorry if I've made an ass of myself. All of them. You need to listen to your own songs critically. If you are recording using midi, you can correct your own mistakes after you make them. If a note or chord sounds sour, you need to fix it. If you screwed up playing the melody like in This Way, My Child, (0:08,) you can't just leave that in! It doesn't have to sound bad just because it's a joke. You could have put some effort into this and gotten some people to sing the parts for you. And you can't just expect the Temmie Village style to work with the battle theme, even if it is a joke. At least not without seriously changing the style. What I mean is - the Temmie Village has a clearly distinct "bum" and "doo" sound for the bass and off-beats, and it works well for that sort of slowed-down ragtime style. You're just using the same voice sample, applied to a fast pace battle theme. It's a mess; it does not sound good! And your off-beat chords sound like they come from a different song altogether, given how loud and out-of-key they sound. ...I do like the percussion in this song however. I think the term you're looking for is "Constructive criticism." "Positive criticism" doesn't really make sense, since criticism is inherently negative. ..That's not really a rebuttal, but whatever. Admittedly, "Mafiatale" is quite good as a concept. I like the garageband style you went for. However, production wise, is suffers from the same problems everything else does.
  13. Is this a joke? The name of your Soundcloud page is SanicStudios Music. Your midi arrangements somehow sound off beat. Several of your covers sound like they have literal mistakes in them. Your "tEm battlz! yAyA!" remix is using Mixcraft's out-of-the-box "boy band" sounds, like every armature YouTuber who ever made a joke remix. " Please tell me what you think (I will not tolerate haters) " I'd say that general audiences aren't a good place to get serious feedback on music, but this statement doesn't actually appear to be true.
  14. I think keeping the bassline so close to the original is a mistake. The bassline was probably like that in the original games because of the Gameboy limitations, it sounds unnatural and awkward for actual double basses to be playing that way. If you want to keep it in, you should either use a synth bass, or make it more subtle and add a deeper bass layered under it, like in Firered/Leafgreen. But in any case, I think your orchestra should take advantage of it's bigger range. It's really apparent that you're using legato sounds for your staccato notes. The staccato notes in the intro don't seem to have much energy to them, and at 0:24, them seem longer than they should be. At 0:14, everything under the melody sounds very messy/muddy. I think you're following the original arrangement too closely when it doesn't really work here. Aside from changing the bass like I mentioned above, you could possible experiment with putting various parts in different octaves, or using less thick/reverby instruments in that section to see if the sound is improved. The trumpet at 0:14 sounds like it's slightly lagging behind everything else. This is probably because you put it's notes exactly on the beat, but the beginning of your trumpet sound isn't the note, it's the trumpet beginning to play the note. You can try compensating for this by having instruments with slower attacks play slightly early. I like the general mood you have at 0:30 though.
  15. Hi, I'm this threads Devil's advocate now. Remember how great it was when they "went back" with Sonic the Hedgehog 4? Ok I'm done here.
  16. The best song ever on the Commodore 64, until someone can point me to a better one. It needs a remix!
  17. Was not ever expecting a Rollerball remix to appear on this site. I love the lead at 1:02. Just sounds really playful, and fits in perfectly with the other instruments. Great use of the piano and Rhodes too.
  18. $50 + $149 = $199 Except I misread, the player-version would actually cost $99. Forget I said anything. Edit: Join the ninja'd conga line.
  19. Agreed. I don't spend much on VSTs, but this interests me and $50 is a price that might turn me into a sucker. But I refuse to pay $199 in the long run just to un-handicap myself.
  20. Ok I've updated the song after taking timaeus's suggestions into account. Except for the following: That was a stylistic choice of mine - the first note of each measure has a big break before the second. Do you think it sounds bad? I have smoothed out the strings at 1:20 - 1:24 though. Yes, I did that on purpose! I think it sounds more interesting that way, like a percussion grace note. I almost couldn't notice it even after you pointed it out. Usually this sort of thing happens to me because of sloppy volume transitions, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I don't see anything at all that could be causing this.
  21. Wow, thanks for mentioning that. I don't know how I could have overlooked that. I've added more variation toward the end, and it sounds great.
  22. Ok last bump. I've significantly improved the part before the ending, (I hated that awful key change,) and boosted the overall volume.
  23. Who are you trying to make this point to? Certainty not me, because my very specific complaints that you can see in this thread have mostly been about the arrangements.
