It's so nice to see the Oblivion soundtrack acknowledged every once in awhile in the face of Skyrim's popularity.

Interesting list of Pokemon music. Haven't listened yet, but I'm very curious to hear this episode's Solo Track segment!
I think I'm going to re-use my Dew Point suggestion "from the brilliant soundtrack of the brilliant Risk of Rain" for the sci-fi playlist.. even though the little sci-fi aspect it has in the setting is just a bit of dressing (as far as I've been able to tell while playing!) The playlist should be pretty interesting, it is a wide theme, I have an impression it'll have a certain coherence but it'll be fun to see how it comes together.

Yeah, he was kind of a doofus, but luckily doesn't read these forums so no harm done.
EDIT: But at least he's not Bryan
Thanks Eino! Before the interview started, I asked Grant if he wanted to focus on a single game or series, maybe Viva Pinata or Yooka-Laylee. In his agreeable fashion, he said to ask him anything, he'll talk about anything, and just see what happens. First interview on the OCPC I've done without notes. It was fun.
And yeah, Mr. Kirkhope gets pigeonholed with the goofball tunes, and that's all true-- but don't stop there. His biggest influence is John Williams and you can tell.

The LBoC was very good, fun but also very fascinating to hear how the guys work their songs.. LOVED the multitracked saxes at the intro of the song. I thoroughly appreciated In Between the Lines as well, thinking it's very generous of Laura to do this kind of thing and I definitely want to hear more.

Another SUPER fun episode; I was smiling from the start hearing Kyle's voice. Kirkhope's interview was great fun, and also quite enlightening to hear from a guy with such a long resume. The point about vgm introducing many people to various different styles of music was a good one, I don't think I had really thought about that (apart from game music orchestral concerts). I'm very fond of VGM's own original voice, so to speak, via chiptunes, but that's a good point.
Lastly, the playlist is working it's magic again, I know Kirkhope mainly as the Banjo-Kazooie or DK Rap guy (funny music), but I'm getting a lot out of the orchestral pieces on the playlist. "Dalentarth" especially reminds me of some of the Finnish compositions in the classical field that I enjoy. I do feel the need to investigate further.

Oh-- oh, you're exactly right! That must be why Bridge Zone sounds so familiar! The Jackson family tree is responsible for all this top-notch Sonic groove!

It was in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was a two-night charity event to raise money for gaming equipment for the local children's hospital. The first night was an all-ages friendly mini-convention type deal with some local vendors and a Nintendo rep giving out free promotional stuff like posters of recent games while letting people play Mario Kart 8. The Super Guitar Bros. played their set at the end of that.
Night two was in this bar in downtown Grand Rapids called The Pyramid Scheme that's a pretty awesome place, decked out with some interesting pop culture stuff and they've got roughly 20 or so different pinball machines at the front of the building. There they had six other VGM cover groups perform, including OCR-posted Knight of the Round. The other groups, which you may or may not have heard of, were Arc Impulse, Mail Order Monsters, Gimmick!, The Returners (the group Lauren the Flute is a part of), and Playing With Power! (the head of which is the guy who started GR8Bit Live). There was a Street Fighter V tournament earlier that they held the finals for during the event and members of some of the bands played Street Fighter music live during the match. It was a great time.

Curious thing.. compare Janet Jackson's "Together Again" to Bridge Zone from the first 8-bit Sonic. At least I get a kick out of the similarity of the first half of the chorus, with Together Again being from 1997. Was it perhaps picked just because of that, or is this just a happy coincidence?
