bwahaha or 1 lvl 60 tauren hunter chasing down 2 or 3 lvl 40 allies i can't stand PvE servers. there's no fear of the unknown. just mobs. and when you're in an area filled with mobs around your level, there's pretty much no fear at all (with the exception of stray elementals, but those are few, far between, and only in specific areas). on a PvP realm you never know what to expect. you don't know if around that next corner is a shammy willing to help you, or an alliance raid waiting to kill your retarded ass. plus on PvP realms when you're waiting for BGs to start or waiting for an instance or whatever there's always things to do. like ganking people. funtimes. go park yourself outside of some low-level instance and kill anybody you deem unworthy. it's cruel, i know, but it's all fair game. especially when you recall all the times you got ganked when you were levelling up. or if you're not the cold-blooded killer type, you can even help lowbies of the opposite faction. i tell you that gets 'em even more on edge than anything. half of them is glad you're helping, the other half is scared shitless at what your next move might be. or or or another fun trick is when you come across a group of enemies, kill all of them but 1. wave at the 1 and leave. then come back and do it again. repeatedly. keep the same 1 alive every time. psychological warfare man. end rant. edit: i was watching my brother play earlier, and i noticed the dredge strikers in silithus no longer send you flying 300ft when they charge you. disappointing

awesome. i know where i'm going then. Smolderthorn wasn't entirely devoid of PvP (there were a few rank 14's) it just lacked the overall population to support it :/

112kbps-320kbps MP3 vs. FLAC VGRemixes?
suzumebachi replied to Audity's topic in Music Composition & Production
unless they're doing their own hosting (highly unlikely) or using a dedicated server that allows them to install scripts and shit, that's never gonna happen. -
do you guys do a lot of AV? Smolderthorn was great for PvE (especially once Transcendance, Exo, Nightmare's Asylum and company came over) but was pretty lacking on the PvP side. AV pretty much only happened on AV holidays, and even then only once or twice. Otherwise there was no such thing as a pickup BG except on AB holidays.

A couple of Patchmix DSP questions for any E-MU users.
suzumebachi replied to ekm's topic in Music Composition & Production
idunno about the monitor thing since i have the EMU 1820m with the audiodock which has a seperate headphone jack. as far as the other problem goes it seems more like an issue with tracktion than patchmix DSP. so... i'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say, but you should currently have 4 strips in your patchmix DSP: 1.) Wave Out 2.) ASIO 31/32 (for your host's playback) 3.) Mono In #1 4.) Mono In #2 leave wave out and ASIO 31/32 alone. in mono in 1 and 2, you should have ASIO sends (probably 1/2 and 3/4). from here on out it's all up to your host. tracktion should have some kind of ASIO configuration settings where you can set ASIO 1 and ASIO 3 to seperate channels. if it doesn't, it's time to get a real host. -
112kbps-320kbps MP3 vs. FLAC VGRemixes?
suzumebachi replied to Audity's topic in Music Composition & Production
you guys are totally forgetting about something: ogg. iirc 192kbps ogg encoding is ~ 320kbps mp3. that should save you even more space and bandwidth. *prepares for compy attack* -
agh. i'm disappointed. i rerolled a pally. D: being used to playing horde, i found it impossible to get into the alliance groove. IMPOSSIBLE. alliance folks are far into doing their own little things and ignoring everything and everyone else. priests won't buff you, even if you buff them first. hell half the time they won't even buff themselves. and forget getting anyone to help you on a quest, the best you'll get is "HAHA LOL NOOB". and to top it all off, i was told by like 10 different people when asking if pallies had any way to pull stuff to "shut up" and be the "buff bot" i'm meant to be. nice. i'm going back to horde. hopefully on a well established, balanced server. where should i reroll this time guys? (looking for a PvP server in either mountain or pacific time)

ok some updates. world of warcraft again: LT: Very very nice stuff. I'm sure these will be used a lot, since this game is pretty hot right now. Ok, what didn't I take: Gnome is rather ugly. Well, it is a gnome. Res still looks kind of dull (I know you're trying, so don't take it wrong), so if you can sharpen it more withot going overboard, I'll take it. Still an ugly bastard. Human, sharpen him up a bit more. Tauren could be shifted to the right a little bit, to better center him. Undead, same as Tauren, plus a little sharper. Everything else looks good. Hopefully we can add everything, but it's up to djp. dar hulkenstein: LT: Yes! Thanks a lot for fixing these up, Ty, I appreciate it.

i second minihost. it is made of win and god. i use it for all my piano kwak purposes.

whoa, GigaStudio is only $129 now? (not including Orchestral version) anyhow, GSIF is pretty much a moot point these days. two reasons mostly. 1) nobody really uses GigaStudio anymore. yeah it's a nice sampler and all, but there's other ones that can get the job done without an eclectic hardware interface (and even the .gig format is on the decline). 2) as of GigaStudio 3, GSIF is no longer required so long as your software is ReWire compatible, which both Cubase and FLStudio are. that said, $129 for GigaStudio is a hella good deal.

Tag & Rename is pretty good. unfortunately it ain't free.

Specific questions about sequencing software
suzumebachi replied to Kanthos's topic in Music Composition & Production
the problem with Reason now is it's so ridiculously outdated, and Propellerheads doesn't appear to be doing anything about it either. eventually it'll go the way of ReBirth. this coming from someone whose first OC ReMix was done in Reason. it was acceptable 4 years ago, but it hasn't changed at ALL since then. FL on the other hand has made LEAPS and BOUNDS in improvement, which is why it's so popular today. -
How do you get those wide, punchy snares/claps?
suzumebachi replied to The Vagrance's topic in Music Composition & Production
lol i always do the opposite. drum set recorded in stereo. guitars, bass, vocals in mono. -
did they make the instances harder or something? i started doing UBRS/Scholo/Strat at like lvl 55...

some World of Warcraft: LT: Sharpen these up a bit more, and they're good to go. The resize made them a little blurry. omfg kirby badguys: (sir kibbles ftw) LT: Meh. Just took Sir Kibbles, out of nepotism. He was the only decent looking one. teh hulk: LT: ROFL. Sharpen it a little and I have to take it.

this thread is made of win and god. when i get home, i am gonna whip up some more awesome shit (i've been working on some avatar packs for ThaSauce anyways). in addition to avatars, will you be accepting any new emoticons? LT: No emoticons, Ty.

Question about Guitar Recording Setup
suzumebachi replied to Garian's topic in Music Composition & Production
SM57 is quality. we've got a couple of those in the studio, and they work wonders. and i definately agree that if you can, mic the amp. even if you have a super awesome multieffects pedal with cab emulation and everything, it's never gonna stack up against a real amp. 4 years ago when i first got into mixing and shit, i had this shitty 30w bass practice amp that i ran my shitty rogue st-3 guitar through and recorded with a shitty $10 radioshack mic... while there was plenty of noise, the actual tone was far superior to that of the johnson j-station i use now. in fact the only reason i use it now is cuz i really don't have the space to mic my amp in my current setup. when i get down to the studio however, i use a much better mic setup: guitar -> j-station -> ibanez 100w 2x12 combo amp -> SM57 -> depending on whether i'm alone or with the band, either through a DI box and into the EMU 1820m, or through a mackie 16 channel mixer first it sounds infinitely better than the j-station alone. however, the j-station is still quite capable for personal recording, as i imagine the rpx400 is as well. so basically, if you can get away with it you should get a decent sound card (EMU 0404 is a good'n as suggested) and the SM57. run your rpx400 through your peavy and mic it. -
i used to just use cosmos + CTmod. seemed to work pretty well (i loveeeeeeeeee the cosmos popbar D:) what's so awesome about titanbar and insomniax?

zero sum? anyways, i'm thinking of getting back into WoW. probably gonna go ahead and start a new char, since by now my old ones are rank 0 (i was rank 8 when i quit ) and i never had any good gear to begin with. so uhh, a few quick 'getting back into the game' questions: 1) is cosmos still the de-facto UI mod? if not, what else is good, and where can i get it? 2) where should i reroll? 3) when does the expansion come out?

Either you're using an extremely ancient computer, or you're using the Soundblaster's built in soundfont support. I'm guessing it's the latter. Don't do that. Get a real sampler. This way it won't be limited by your sound card, but by your actual physical memory. To answer question number 1, and solve problems 3 and 4, go get sfz. It's a free VSTi sampler that can load soundfonts up to.. well theoretically unlimited sizes (depending on CPU and RAM). If you don't already have a VST host or sequencer, I suggest you get one. I wish you would have asked these questions before you went out and wasted your money on a Soundblaster. Now to answer question 2: some people may disagree with me, but no. sure it's fine as a portable format, or for sketching out your arrangement (and of course for your keyboard interface) but beyond that it's become EXTREMELY obsolete. Like I said before, I suggest getting a real VST host/sequencer. FLStudio is a good place to start. Also Cubase if you got the dough, etc. Reason is another alternative, though it unfortunately is not VST capable (but it does have a built in soundfont sampler). I'm curious as to what software you're using currently. And once again I cannot stress enough for future references, plz people, do not buy Soundblaster cards for music production.

When I record, the quality drops.
suzumebachi replied to Henrymop's topic in Music Composition & Production
there's your problem. not only should be using the manufacturer's drivers, but you're probably recording digital feedback as well.
