Trust me, it's not a forever goodbye, I just feel like I need to strengthen the things that are lacking and are pretty consistently said across the board. Some of the sentiments are critique I've gotten in the NG competitions as well. Can't BS oneself if there's common problems. ♡ I'm just taking time to dedicate to more learning and skill development, (cause for God's sake do I need to be able to hear tone and key differences better.)
I'll be back. Matter of fact, I'm still doing Granstream and got something for Tactics Advance in my head. I just know if I'm doing all this musical self e-learning (and learning Reaper,) I won't be able to make the deadlines for the compos. Plus, I want to come at these things with a stronger game, so people can enjoy them even more.
That's all I want, is for whatever I put out there to be super enjoyable and not a mess-fest to the ears. XD Doesn't matter win or lose, I just want to get better.

Honestly, the first one is the only one really worth playing. I just recently followed a LP for Wild Arms 2 and it was...like gameplay and balance were shelved in the background and the plot is near incomprehensible. Luckily, 3, 4 and 5 are better, but they are huge time sinks, so yeah try out 1 first for sure!

glad to be here! ? i've never actually played "wild arms," but after seeing some gameplay (and all the sweet anime cutscenes) yeah, i could probably see the similarities. i should definitely play through it when i've got the time (i tried picking up granstream again and sadly, it's not as fun as i remembered, even with the fun story)

This was the on-going identity crisis I was dealing with with MnP, back when I ran it. Good to see you understand the spirit and are more eloquent with getting that across TVG. I'm proud of you m'boy
Edit derp. Wrong Post.

Source isn't quite my cup. I'll lurk around and wait for my time to shine though. And welcome aboard the Compo Scene @colorado weeks. Good to see new faces
EDIT...well actually I COULD do something good with this since Synthwave is my style. But I'm hoping for something a bit more familiar to me maybe. 'Cut your Way' reminds me of Wild Arms.
Well, it's your gig now. But RIP my dreams. Was hoping to snag a few more metroid tunes.

It might be a heatwave in some parts of the world, but it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in here!
No, I'm not hallucinating. It's that time once again. Time to see who's interested in taking part in the annual tradition of making Christmas-type musics for people. Christmas in July has become a thing these days, and so it's during that seasonal warm up period that we kick this thing off in hopes of getting folks to provide music for the real season when it comes about in five-plus months.
So... this project is open to any and all OCR members, regardless of whether you're a posted remixer or not. Want some details? Have some details...
When's The Project Deadline?- December 20th, 2021 at 11:59 P.M. EST.
This is now a REALLY hard, non-negotiable deadline, since it's very close to Christmas. We've had lots of last-minute entries and updates over the years and, to be perfectly honest, it shouldn't be that way. With months of time, having to hold off as long as possible for people made things pretty hectic for myself and Dyne in the past. Treating this project like a college paper that doesn't get worked on until the last minute got annoying rather quickly when it kept adding up to lots of hurrying year after year, with last second updates to artwork and retagging/reuploading things. As such, you have until one minute before midnight EST on December 20th to get me the final WAV or MP3 of your song. After that, you're shit outta luck until next year. I need time to do everything, including possibly making a little website to host this project if Dyne isn't online for one reason or another. So this deadline's set in stone... PERIOD.
What Information Does The Coop Need?- When you send me your final versions, I'll need what name you want to use (real or remixer handle) and the name of your remix. Please, come up with something when you send me links to the file, rather than just giving me a file called "ff6-owa-v3f.mp3" and nothing else. You don't have to tell me what song you're remixing, but I do need a name. Plus, if you have a website you'd like to pimp, supply that as well and I can add it to the MP3 tags.
What Can Be Remixed?- Any song, really. Traditional Christmas carols, video game music, published music by a signed artist, music from TV/cartoons/anime... whatever gets your heart racing and into that Christmas spirit. This isn't an official OCR album, so you can draw from more sources than just VGM. Plus, you can take a non-Christmas tune, like the Main Theme from Space Harrier, Stage 6 Mission 2 from Metal Head, or I Defend STM from Truxton II, and turn it into a Christmasy one. So know that it's not limited only to songs that are Christmas-like to begin with. All that said, do keep in mind that if you want to submit your song to OCR later, you'll need to keep this site's guidelines in the back of your mind. But for this album, you can take it in just about any direction you want and get as crazy as you'd like (but please, no "Silver Bells" done in farts or something).
How Long Can My Song Be?- As long as you want it to be. There are no restrictions on this, so whether it's 1:30, or 9:51 with a five minute guitar solo ala Metallica, it's all good. But again, if you want to submit your song to OCR later, keep their guidelines in mind.
What Genres Can I Remix In?- Again, the door's wide open here. Rap, Metal, Pop, Piano-solo, Orchestral, Jazz, 8/16-bit, Barber Shop Quartet, A capella, Death Polka... it's up to you where you want to take it.
What Format Should I Submit My Song In?- WAV or an MP3 of at least 192KB/s quality. I'll be tagging the MP3s and making MP3s from any submitted wavs, so you don't have to worry about that. But, if you'd like your website to be in the MP3 comments section, be sure to give it to me when you submit your song.
How About A Little Music To Get Us In The Mood?- To help everyone along, here's a YouTube list of Christmasy tunes made by Ocre a number of years ago...
https://ocremix.org/community/topic/32727-an-overclocked-christmas-~-now-recruiting/?tab=comments#comment-676914
What's The Website's Address Again?- It's got a new home at... http://williammichael.info/aocc/ This album will still be downloaded there as well, as Dyne will continue to host the albums on his site.
How Do We Contact This The Coop Person?- If you've got questions, comments, concerns, want feedback, or your track is done and ready to be sent to me, you can PM me here on OCR, or send me an E-mail at thecoopscorner@gmail.com. Just be sure you remember to include a link to your remix, or attach it to your message.
So yeah, there you go. You've got over five months to get something done for the lovely people of OverClocked Remix and the billions of listeners around the world who've become followers of our project.
Good luck, have fun and make everyone some Nice Work™!

i realize most of me remixing video game music ends up being a "will it salsa" moment, and most of the time it's a resounding "no"
hopefully this time it'll stick????

Hello everyone, I'm Damian and I'm super excited to join this community! I happened to find out about OC Remix on Youtube many years ago, when I first listened the Fire Cross Final Fantasy OC Remix by Luiza and the Purple Heart OC Remix by goat. They were actually some of the first songs that inspired me to want to play guitar and make video game music arrangements.
I was finally able to afford an 8-string electric guitar almost one year ago, and have been learning to play alongside learning music theory to be able to understand why I feel so moved when listening to certain music. My next goals (music-wise) are to cover some of my favorite songs and to turn some ideas into full songs. My favorite bands in recent years have been Animals as Leaders, Avenged Sevenfold and ALI PROJECT.
Video games I've been playing lately and have been amazed by the OSTs are Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, Nier Replicant Remastered, and Atelier Ayesha.
Besides being involved in music, I love to read (all kinds of genres, but mainly history, philosophy, and economics). I also love playing hide and seek with my cat Ophilia. ?
I'm still very new to navigating around this site, but it looks like there's so much content to look into and explore! Thanks for having me and I am looking forward to meeting you all over time! ?

Right...
I think (sadly) I'm just going to have to be frank and honest with myself and drop out of MnP & PRC for a bit...
I'll continue to check in on occasion and maybe still use the sources to make remixes on the side with, but insofar as putting stuff out into the compos themselves--clearly whatever I am doing isn't cutting it, or cohesive enough to be viable for it.
And FWIW--it's not really the points or the constant losing that bothers me--it's the fact it's the same issues over and over again--no matter how I try to rectify them currently, with each new song I compose, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better... And some of the critique I get I don't understand what is meant by it, musically wise, or I don't hear what's wrong--so it's doing me no good unless I get a breakdown of what exactly is dissonant, how and why, but that's a level of handholding no one would feasibly have time for, nor would I ask it of them. I don't put out material I don't think sounds good or right...but clearly my ears are shot to hell, lol.
Good luck guys. I'll catch ya'll on the flip and either peek in to evaluate on occasion or to listen to the great stuff ya'll generally put out...way more so than my own. o/
**EDIT: (Also, FWIW, I appreciate people like my drumwork and percussion, but sadly most compositions need decent melody and harmony work, and clearly I just need to get better at doing it, and hearing it, period. But I am aware and do appreciate when people say the drums, mixing/mastering or composition framework is strong... I just also know that those alone don't make for a strong song, so I need to go off and work on the other things so it can stop sounding atonal and disproportionate.)

Hey.
Sorry I'm kinda bad at this and don't mean to be a dummy...
But what key is the source in? (I can't tell solely by ear, yet...)
-
colorado weeks reacted to TheVideoGamer in MnP 127: The Granstream Saga - Cut Your Way
MnP isn't really about 1-1. It's about respecting the original intent of the source. It's outlined by number 2 in the guidelines.
If you're gonna do a genre change, at least make sure the original aspect of the source is not lost. This really is the key, into ensuring creative freedom. Do whatever the hell you want, as long as the original aspect of the source is not lost basically lol. This includes Trancifying the source.

And I think I've broken my record...and possibly something is wrong with me. Not sure which of those or if its both and I cannot figure out which is which.
Edit - Seriously, I think I've broken my previous record for getting one these tracks out. It was like 3 days, but this took me about 36 hours including revising the mix some (well a lot). And really that makes me question if something is wrong with me lol
