OCR01151 - *YES* Morrowind 'Battle at the Red Mountain'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Good orchistration, but I"ll have to listen to the original. -
Go for more complexity. This is minimal to the extreme. Rather similar to original. For one thing, guitar shouldn't be played solo in quantized notes as such. Its too green. work on the overall notation complexity. NO

*NO* Secret of Mana 'Mystic Invasion' *RECALL*
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Furthermore, its a direct transcript of the original, so says the author, and so would say anyone who listens to the spc. -

*NO* Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening 'Shrine of Worship'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
This song is rather short, plays the original melody through 3 times, and then ends. Go for more rearrangement. Dont just rehash on the original. I like it though. NO -
My only issue here is based on how the song follows the original exactly and then when the more complicated parts of the original come about, they are pretty much skipped. Like the sounds, but go for more of a rearrangement, and less remix. NO

*NO* Sonic the Hedgehog 3 'Remixed Carnie' *FT*
Protricity replied to DarkeSword's topic in Judges Decisions
The percussion is pretty grating. Bad drumloops? Sound effects are just way too loud. Dont really know another way to put it - the sounds in this song are annoying. Go for more originality as well. NO -
I would that the bass was more prominent. Its there, but cuts out too soon, not enough sustain. Kinda gives the guitar a hollow sound. Some parts seem awkward and messy. Kinda disappointed that I didn't get to hear any crazy ass zyko solos. Other than that, very interesting piece. Over the top rearrangement and creativity. Very likeable.

Eh, I liked djp's surprise call better. I really wouldn't guess dave lloyd sounded like that. I thought he was 24 or something. Kinda strange how things can be... I also expected a little more seriousness out of the creator of oc.

Someone just made a mistake. Someone who's name starts with Dave Lloyd. So yea, I got the new song and am listening to it. I'll have to hear it again when I get home to review it.

Soundscape or not, its the biggest violation of the submission guidlines we've had for a while now. Its a clear NO and I'm not sure where the YESs are comming from.
-
Hehe, interesting way to remix this one. Sounds like some pretty cheap soundfonts here. Well used. Great variation on the original. Great instrumentation. We wants it, my precious, o yes we does. YES

*NO* Final Fantasy 9 'Messenger in the Key of Black'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Lightwarmth presents something light and warm here. I like it and find no problems whatsoever. Could be longer and use some more uh... complexity perhaps. I always dig stuff that constantly changes. All the time changing. Thats the high point in this mix for sure. Doesnt sound like it was played live, but skillfully done nonetheless. Ending could be better. YES -
OCR01141 - *YES* Final Fantasy 7 'Sweeter than Honey'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Oh man. The original of this song sucked SOOOOOOO MUCH. HA! This is so cool! Man, talk about taking a total piece of shit and making something sweet ass out of it. Really impressed here. YES YES YES Could be louder, but nice. Yes.. nice. -
OCR01139 - *YES* Terminal Velocity 'Proxima Path'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
I just really have no idea where the hell i'd get the original to this. http://www.3drealms.com/tv/ Maybe someone has some ideas? as for now, just straight up review: Some repeating, but lots of variation. Most importantly, the instrumentation is well done. Beats are pretty simple, but in the right place. Everything fits. Light on the ears and fun to listen to. YES unless someone gives a valid reason why this shouldn't pass. -
*NO* Mega Man X 'Spark Castle Doom Mandrill'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Cool percussion. Sorta. Guitar and bass samples really do sound like their from the spc. Thats ok, I did that too Big problem is this wishwash synth at 0:40. It clips, its too loud, out of place. Just wrong. Strings sorta flood everything. They should use less reverb and release. Interesting remix. Please fix the problems and resubmit. NO -
Starting at :40 and up, the melody is way hollow. Lead over dnb. No real accompany until 1:00. Stuff like that is kinda grating. Cool processing later one. Detuned saws kinda annoying. Theres clipping. I really like the arrangement later on. The real problem here is that the instruments are somewhat floody. I never thought detuned saws were good for accompany like this. This mix really could be better with more work. It needs to 'rock more'. Thats all I can really say. Its one step from oc quality. It needs that extra leap. NO

*NO* Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow 'Dragoon Lance'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Indeed Darke is right. The synth is all by itself over the weak bass and drumloops. This continues for the entire duration of the song. Really gotta go for more 'meat'. Cool sound processing, but you need to go for your own beats and some better orchestration/arrangement. NO -
Exactly as Darkesword put it. My main problem here is the synths. I may be a little biased for not liking detuned synths in perticular, but layered detuned synths always sounded like shit to me. When things get layered up, I hear a great deal of frequency clashing. Things just get ugly. Cant really describe it anyway. I would be willing to look past this if there were other elements of value and originality in this song, but its pretty much a straightforward trance song. Just go for more next time. NO
