  1. thanks so much for coming! it's all good stevo, i know how things go. I think I will derail this thread to start advertising my next show--we're playing in New York soon! July 6, 2010 @ Crash Mansion in NYC, 8:30pm 199 Bowery 21+ only So I dunno if there are prices yet. But this might be closer to a bunch of you!
  2. Okay, tonight's the night! Hope to see a bunch of you there! Those of you who are getting tickets at the door, just be sure to tell them you're there to see "medicine lake" I'm pumped! See ya'll soon!
  3. I think the 3d is really cool. I doubt I'd get one... but that's just because I get really guilty about spending money on video game stuff when it's over like, 50 bucks
  4. OH! you guys should listen to punch brothers. They're, for lack of a better description, a progressive bluegrass group. They do some really interesting things with meter and tempo. Seriously smart music.
  5. actually, I am totally a definite ONLY if I can get a ride with a baltimorian.
  6. well techically 11/11 would be 1/1... and technically, you could divide a whole note into 11 beats... it would just be really hard to play and not very practical
  7. I am totally a maybe! I'll need a ride from baltimore folk though...
  8. Remember: when talking theory, we're talking strictly about how music works--what it actually sounds like may or may not apply.
  9. 7(1/3)/4. Village Burial with Fire by James Wood. But seriously I just like 4/4. Leave me alone!
  10. wanted to let everyone know that I miscalculated the time a bit--we'll actually be starting closer to 9 o clock than 9:30!
  11. This isn't a "studio" per se... but I did get my setup figured out for my first rock gig ever: I think it looks pretty badass!
  12. hey prophet lets argue about theory! just like the good ol days! That's the one that I like. Though, I'll probably mix it up a bit. I played a work by Peter Klatzow on my recital this year, and his tonal language is mostly octatonic. I would probably emulate the way he writes:
  13. I would use the whole tone to get the major third that lives on top of a half-diminished chord. The bass-line that opens the theme would also work well in a whole tone setting. I would mainly just have the two juxtaposing eachother just because they're so different... as an alternative to the middle ground we have already called conventional tonality
  14. tickets will be sold up until showtime! Whenever you guys find out if you can come/how many tickets you want, just drop me a pm to let me know and I'll get them to you!
  15. Man, I've been thinking of arranging Narshe from FF6 in a completely octatonic tonality... but since the first chord is primarily half-diminished and not fully diminished, I was thinking of super-imposing whole tone on top of the octatonic... or something...?
  16. Hey, thanks to all who came to the recher show! I figured rather than starting a new thread, I would derail this one and make it my gig thread. here's the next show! Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 8:30pm Crash Mansion 199 Bowery New York, NY 21+, no ticket details yet! So those of you who are local or near NYC, keep this in mind! I know Baltimore is too far for a bunch of you, but this may be better for many!
  17. A great sort of middle ground between jazz piano and the stuff you listen to on OCR would be Hiromi. One of my favorite jazz musicians, especially living ones.
  18. hah, there is so much out there. you like piano stuff specifically?
  19. in the video--you can hear it going off
